The mattress rises again when Jake’s weight is removed and Bob feels himself grow cold. Jake plucks his boxers up off the floor and puts them on, humming a bit as he searches for the rest of his clothing around Bob’s room. "No hard feelings. Javy told me about you & Natasha and your bet. You can stop pretending,” Jake says, with his back to Bob. "What?" Thank god Bob is on a mattress, because it feels like the entire ground dropped out from underneath of him. "What?" he says again, when Jake doesn’t answer. He doesn’t respond the second time either and for some reason, Bob’s dread twists into anger. "If you knew there was a bet, why go along with it in the first place?" He challenges and the easy laugh from Jake, still facing away from him, doesn’t help the growing pit in Bob’s stomach. "You're a hard man to get out of my head. Thought it would help." Jake shrugs, back muscles shifting. Bob can see where he left some bruises last night. Marks that Jake had asked for. "Or I just thought it was my only shot." Jake’s bittersweet tone is a screaming siren implying that their night together actually didn't help him at all. "Just do me a favor…" Jake could ask for anything right now and Bob would agree, anything at all in hopes of stopping the nausea from churning in his stomach. He wants to get off the bed, to make Jake stay, but he can’t move. “What?” He whispers, dreading what is coming next. Jake finally turns around and Bob will remember the expression on his face forever. Hurt, brave, scared, and pleading. A smirk that isn't working and a carelessness that Bob sees through easily. "Collect on your winnings when I'm not around."
