don't make me do this/see results (coward)
It just occurred to me that the tribe with the least distance between monarch and subject, the only tribe with semi-communal power, the only tribe with no noble class vs peasant class, is the tribe with “no proper leadership” and is “backwards” and “useless” and the literal solution is to have foreign-raised glory seize leadership and start running the tribe the way the other tribes are run
Yikes
I believe in Glory and Peril solidarity. Low empathy autism alliance. They can resolve their feelings to each other and be besties.
Glory and Peril sharing the mindset of “if this person sucks and is annoying just kill them”
Glory and Peril: oh I hate this guy. blocked. (Kills them)
Genuinely I think about the first arc all the time. I know there's a lot to criticise but the dragonets' character arcs & the morals of each book were sooo spot on. The way each dragonet reacted to their abuse differently & different sides of each issue were shown--my god. Clay learning he was meant to be a protector, not a warrior. Tsunami feeling like a monster for the first time in her life when she was protecting her friends the only way she knew how. Learning everything that was stolen from her by the Talons, her culture, her language, her mother tongue. Having complicated feelings toward Webs (who was explicitly acknowledged as an enabler! That hit so close to home when i first read it in like 5th grade). Glory having no sympathy for her abusers while the others still clung to them (glory's whole arc is so. argh). Starflight coming to terms with the fact that he'll never be the all-powerful prophecy child he was always told he'd grow into. Sunny remaining kind despite it all. ARGH
I love how despite not really getting along, Tsunami and Glory so deeply and obviously care for each other. In Book 2 it's mentioned that Glory is afraid of the dark, so Tsunami would light up every stripe on her body for her. In Book 1, when Glory felt like the group didn't need/want her, it's Tsunami that convinced her to stay. Tsunami fought off fourty NightWings for Glory. They <3
The fuck is going on with laws in wings of fire? Like is murder legal Orr- also is it like were there’s different rules each kingdom or is there continent wide rules? if so who set them??
It varies from moment to moment
Murder is legal if it was for a good reason
imagine an outclaws like "i committed murder" and thorn is all "y tho" "they deserved it" "lol okay thats good"
This exact train of thought has crossed my mind so many times- I get that in the scorpion den laws might be less regulated because it’s basically a black market, but what about the other kingdoms? Like??? Imagine if after Darkstalker murdered his dad, he just went around telling people that Arctic was a meanie and everyone just went “alright, cool”
murder is okay unless icicle does it apparently 😒😒
Actually since Im posting my headcanons: Pyrrhian tribe’s music
I think every tribe has different music instruments they use to make music, this is based on Qibli’s comment when listening to Nightwing music and saying it was weird that it didnt have any drums. OK SO
Sandwings: Percussions like bongos, drums etc AND their poison barbs, I hc that they can make sounds with them like rattlesnakes so they could also use them as maraccas. Generally just music to dance to, its a huge part of sandwing culture, they gather around bonfires to sing and dance.
Rainwings: Singing! they can sing like birds and you’ll pry this “rainwings make bird noises” headcanon out of my cold dead hands. Also extremely important in rainwing culture, half of what they do throughout the day is singing happily
Nightwings: Stringed instruments, mostly classical music filled with violins and other complicated to use instruments that other tribes have trouble understanding. They used to see music as the finest art so it still holds a lot of value in nightwing culture but the nightwings that grew up in the volcano dont focus on it to much.
Mudwings: IM HAVING TROUBLE WITH THIS ONE DAMM YOU TUI.T SUTHERLAND FOR NOT EXPLORING MUDWINGS MORE. They’d probably have those wind instruments made out of clay like Ocarinas but HUGE since yknow…dragons. I feel like it wouldnt be a huge part of the culture but still really appreciated
Icewings: Opera like things, the acustics in the ice kingdom are probably great. Also Xilophones made out of ice and things like that, like you hit the ice a little bit and it does a funky little sound. Icewings would not be ones for music though, it’d be really underappreciated.
Seawings: Seawings that live on shallower waters and are often on land most likely use shells as horns and other similar instruments. Deep sea seawings are less music appreciative due to them being underwater BUT while they are underwater they can do the same as WHALES and they sing that way.
I think that the cultural exchange that could be had is also extremely interesting, specially with the rainwings integrating nightwing instruments into their songs and Mudwings that were in the war influencing the mudwing music scene with bongos and other percussion borrowed from sandwings. Also Rainwing bird singing and Seawing whale singing duet would be great
Pyrrhia Tribes, from biggest to smallest:
MudWings
BROAD. Like alligators. Skywings may be a bit taller but MudWings are in a whole different weight class.
SkyWings
TALL. Like if they were humans their average height would be 6"+. They're also quite slender (aerodynamics) so other tribes usually think they look quite weak at first glance. Big mistake.
NightWings
The volcano must not have been a massive threat until the last century or so. Otherwise there's no way NightWings could be as large as they're described to be, what with the generational stress and malnutrition.
I think NightWings are around SkyWing height levels. They have muscle, but not as much as MudWings. Still quite the imposing figure.
SeaWings
I headcanon that SeaWings have a little fat layer for keeping warm in the deep sea. That, combined with the muscle needed for swimming fast enough to catch prey--SeaWings may not be very tall compared to SkyWings or MudWings, but they're BUILLT.
RainWings
RainWings are huge!! Abundant food lets them grow as large they want. They're big and beautiful and surprisingly muscled, like a python.
IceWings
It's pretty obvious that IceWings don't hunt in the sea often. Otherwise they'd need fat layers to survive (like SeaWings!) (also it is a bit questionable how they've adapted to the cold without fat layers, especially as a presumably cold-blooded reptilian species but whatever we'll roll with it). They're more suited for flying, like SkyWings, maybe just because of how huge the Ice Kingdom is (like Americans with cars, lol). They're slender, but tall.
SandWings
SandWings are not small. None of the tribes are small, they're friggin' DRAGONS. However, they aren't notably tall or muscle-y, so that puts them firmly in the lower ranks. Sorry, Sandwings.
BONUS
Female dragons are on average bigger and stronger than their male counterparts. That's part of why Sunny's stature is so noticeable.
Starflight isn't actually that small for a NightWing his age, it's just that 1) no one's quite sure what size a male NightWing his age should be, and 2) his siblings are fucking mean and love to bully him.
Glory has a bit of a growthspurt after she starts living in the rainforest and getting sun-time regularly. Not by a lot, but enough that it's noticeable.
One (or technically two) inconsistencies in WoF that always messed with me is that in Book 2 we learn Glory is afraid of the dark. Tsunami references that when the guardians took away torches as a punishment she would light up all her scales as bright as possible because, and I quote, "Glory hated the dark".
This is never brought up again, which is especially interesting because in Book 7 Winter notes how dark the rainforest is at night. He wonders if RainWings have night vision and mentions that no other tribes do--which is ALSO interesting because it's a well-known fact that SeaWings have night vision, so if Winter doesn't know that then it means IceWings have very very poor knowledge of the other tribes.
Glory 🤝 NightWings -> having chronic health/mental issues bc of the environment they were raised in
like yeah glory's venom definitely should've killed scarlet however this is the same woman who got impaled to the ground and brushed it off so well that the wound was never bought up again so i therefore hc that she just has a thing with bouncing back effortlessly from injuries that should've been much more severe
