I don’t see how it starting as a marketing campaign for the Gillette corporation or whatever would mean that therefore there is no pedophilic or infantilising element to this cultural expectation. That doesn’t follow.

Within the mainstream presentation of heterosexuality there definitely is a major element of infantilisation of women and the sexualisation of that infantilisation. It doesn’t seem unreasonable to look at the expectation for women to shave their body hair in this light, even if it’s not the full story.

I don’t think this makes most straight men pedophiles or whatever, and while I can’t speak for the op I will note that they did not say anything about straight men in general in this post.

You can’t go directly from looking at general cultural trends straight to criticism of individuals within the culture, but cultural criticism is still a useful thing to do??

given that people love binaries, they tend to want to group around the ends of the spectrum for most traits, so if there is a clear divide in which men grow beards and women mostly do not, you wouldn’t find it hugely surprising for a beauty standard to arise in which women shaved what hair that did grow on their faces, although obviously the treatment of legs and armpits and elsewhere is going to depend on fashion styles.
