THEODORE

A laugh left Theo. “Well that’s the plan… some day at least.” It was why he was in the Academy now. “I like sailing but it’s not as easily accessible as just water in general so I do a lot of swimming.” He explained, smiling a little. “Thanks for the offer, that’s sweet of you.”

“ You must have been so bummed when the Academy pool was down for that pipe damage last week. ” Anastasia blew out a breath, already cheering up at least a little from not being alone. “ Okay, this is... both bold and incredibly random of me to ask, but do you already have your partner and/or sidekick request picked out for when you graduate ? ”

MAYA

“Yeah, it seems that way…” And Maya was inwardly glad for it because she was terrible with most people. Part of her wanted to be better but even when she tried, she ended up screwing it up. “But no, I don’t have any food allergies. You would weirdly suit being a superhero called ‘happy beast’ though.”

“ Okay, fabulous. I never used to think about it until Jordi told me he was vegan last year. I’ve been working on learning some vegan cupcake recipes for this summer’s bake sale, though, so hopefully that makes up for it. ” She began taking out a platter of cheese and crackers. “ I actually... have a superhero name picked. Want to be the first to hear it ? ”

THEODORE

There was a little motion from Theo before the water appeared to create a sort of umbrella over the girl stopping it from hitting her again. “I like sunshine because I can go out and enjoy the sea which is kind of my favorite but this weather definitely lends to being more useful to me.”

As the rain almost immediately stopped just above her head, Anastasia’s eyes nearly watered all over again. “ You’re my hero, ” she teased, although her smile was of genuine gratitude. “ Do you just swim in the sea or are you into sailing or something like that ? Well, if there’s any way I can help you practice, I’d be happy to. ”

“Please tell me you heard that too,” Charles replied nervously after a loud crash had come seemingly out of nowhere. He paused, swallowing back a fearful lump in his throat. Should he run? Should he turn invisible? While those were his first instincts, he thought that maybe if the other person wasn’t so terrified he was just being irrational. “What should we do? Should we uh– check it out?” he asked, feigning confidence and poorly so.

Anastasia’s whole body froze at the sound, her thoughts quickly searching for some familiar memory to equate the noise to. Unfortunately, she came up short, but that didn’t stop her from putting on a brave face with her forced smile. “ Well.... we’re going to be superheroes one day, so we ... yes, we ought to investigate !  But we shouldn’t split up, like in the movies. That totally never ends well. ”

DARCY

The name of her sister took her by surprise, blinking widely at the other, knowing she should say something but she couldn’t find the words other than ‘my sister is here.’ She finally seemed to gain control of her thoughts, pushing the information aside to process later, “I’m not Sloane-.. my name is Darcy, I’m Sloane’s twin sister. She’s here? I mean of course she’s here because you’ve just mistaken me for her. But wow, that’s-… I had no idea.” She commented with a small, awkward smile, wondering if her sister had mentioned to people around this place, her friends, that she had a twin. 

In the space of the silence, Anastasia had made the decision herself that Sloane clearly needed medical assistance. At least, until she started talking again. “ Oh my god, Sloane has a twin ? An identical sister ? ” She looked the other over in an appraising motion. “ Okay, normally I’d say this is some clever prank for the glitter bomb I pulled on April Fool’s, but.... you do dress better than Sloane. .... Unless you got someone to help you with the prank...  Okay, twins, triplets, quadruplets, et cetera do seem to go along with the whole super -- Wait, what do you know about this place ? ”

TESSA

“I would’ve just let the mud swallow me whole,” she muttered under her breath. “Is there something that can change your mind about this?”

“ Are you upset about something besides the bike ride ? ” Anastasia pressed, worried about the other. “ I’m all ears if you have a better plan instead of just turning me down.  “

“ Absolutely the best flower crowns we’ve ever made, ” Anastasia grinned in agreement, making sure her own yellow and pink crown wasn’t missing anything. “ Do you think we’ll look like real life Disney princesses now ? Which ones would we be ? ” She tapped a finger to her lips in thought. “ Aurora for you ? ”

“And we’ve made our fair few, it’s nice to know we’re simply getting better.” Marie commented, sitting her own on her head before pulling out her phone and turning on her camera to admire the view. “Of course, flower crowns give us immediate Disney Princess status.” She told the other with a smile, watching as she calculated who she’d be, “I’m honored, I loved Sleeping Beauty growing up, I thought she was the definition of gracefulness and beauty.” She sighed, “It may be the hair, but I’m getting some Ariel vibes coming from you.”

“ Eventually we’ll be able to spin flower crowns of gold like that girl in Rumpelstiltskin ! Did she even have a name ?” Anastasia announced with a laugh, her hand going to her own phone’s portrait mode. “ Cute selfie ? ” After she’d snapped the photo, she offered a warm smile to the girl. “ Well, you’re graceful and beautiful, so it’s the perfect. ” Anastasia laughed at the remark. “ I dont’ know whether I agree, but I’m so down to be any of the princesses. ”

MYLENE

Mylene noticed the clouds seemed to gravitate towards the other, so she walked over to see if she was alright. “No need to apologize, we can’t control where we feel things,” she smiled. “Well, personally I like either reading one of my favourite books or watching funny animal videos. What has you feeling so down?”

“ Oh, I love funny animal videos, ” Anastasia agreed softly. “ What do you like to read ? I... It’s just... a lot sometimes. Boys, family, school, it’s all just... not amazing this week. My last year at the Academy starts this year, so I’m probably just feeling nostalgic. Usually I’m the cheerful one, I swear. ”

“Oh this is perfect.” Marie beamed, taking the flower the other handed to her and fixing it to the flower crown, her tongue sticking out the side of her mouth as she examined her work. “I think these might be some of the best flower crowns ever if I do say myself. Don’t you think?”

Ronnie smiled warmly, “It’s fine. I can handle a little rain. It’s just water after all,” She said reassuringly, “Are you okay?“

“ Oh, yeah, isn’t your partner a hydrokinesis user ? That must be awesome, I wish they’d pair me with any of the elementals in school. Otherwise I want a kickass sidekick. ” She sniffed quietly. “ Sorry, I didn’t mean to swear. I’ll be alright, I just ... I thought this year would be... better. ”

HAROLD 

“Yes, we did,” Harold said, smiling at his daughter. He saw so much of Diana in her and as much as that pained him, he was also happy for the reminder, “I’m Harold. And please, sit by all means,” He moved to make some space for her.

“ It’s great to meet you, Harold ! ” Anastasia smiled as she took a seat beside him, then glanced upwards to take in the vibrant hues above them. “ Sunrise is the absolute best, but this is a close second. What’s your favorite time of day ? ”

Tristan laughed, “Yeah, I remember how to brake. As they say it’s like riding a bike,” He joked.

“ Oh, please, lead the way if you’re the expert, then, ” she shot back with a playful grin. “ I packed lunch in case we want to take a break later. ”

“Are you sure this is a good idea? I think it’s going to start raining any moment now and knowing my luck i will end up covered in mud,” Tessa told her friend while she looked at the bikes with suspicion. 

“ If it starts raining, then I’ll just make it sunny again, ” Anastasia combated, rolling her eyes playfully. “ Anyway, worst case scenario that a monsoon hits us, then a mud bath is totally good for your skin. ”

BROOKE

“I think I should have been gifted with teleportation or the power to stop time,” Brooke mused aloud to the person sat beside her. “If I’m late to anymore classes, I feel like they’re going to kick me out.” A soft chuckle left her lips, before she turned to her company. “What brings you here today?”

“ Sometimes I think time travel would be the best superpower. Imagine getting eighties makeup tutorials in the eighties. But then there’s the whole ‘ one wrong move and you’ve destroyed the world ’ or whatever. ” Anastasia’s humorous expression quickly sobered, though, ignoring the other’s question. “ Girl, you so can’t be missing role call. Do you need me to help you find a new schedule ? ”

“No… no-… no.” Darcy muttered to herself as she kept looking at the phone in her hand and the shop and street names above her. “Seriously.” She grumbled, tapping furiously on her phone before letting out a sigh and tapping the person near her on the shoulder. “Hey, sorry to bother you but- I’m new, lost and willing to give out cupcakes to someone who helps me. Is that enough of a bargaining chip?”

Anastasia made it a habit to know everyone enrolled in the Academy or working at HQ. It was the best way to guarantee she moved through the ranks quickly, for more than just her parents’ names. Because of this, she recognized Sloane Carlisle right away, the programming specialist. Her eyes widened. “ Oh my god, Sloane, are you okay ? Did you get.... hit with amnesia or something ? Cupcakes are totally a bargaining chip, but should I take you to the hospital ? ”

“ I didn’t think it was physically possible for you to get more peppy and optimistic but I was wrong. Apparently the sun brings out a whole new happy beast in you.” Maya murmured as she stared down at the array of goodies that Anastasia had presented her with, laid out on a gingham blanket.

“ It’s important to leave people guessing, ” Anastasia half teased while she continued properly sorting out the silverware. “ You totally like having a personal ray of sunshine to bother you on the weekly, anyway. I keep your life entertaining ! Oh my god, imagine if my superhero name was Happy Beast. ” The very ideas sent her into a fit of laughter. “ Oh ! Do you have any food allergies ? ”
