Just a reminder that well-written characters should be flawed, complicated, and human.
First, you're going out for karaoke with friends. Which song are you singing? (x)
One thing I dig about Robby is that he's wildly kind and empathetic... and also an entire fucking dick. Queen Bitch of the Cunt Parade over there. Thinks he's got all the answers, hates to have his authority questioned (especially by women!), and snarking back is his first instinct. Fandom has a tendency to sand off his edges because of his big heart, but nah dudes, this man will cut you.
And I fuckin' LOVE it.
Exactly! Flaws are what make those characters feel so real.
Robby is a good teacher, but he will let his insecurities govern his interactions with students if he feels cornered. He should not do that. And what's so engaging about him is that he very likely knows he shouldn't act that way, but still choose to do it.
And they are all full of contradicions : Mohan is empathic and will spend a lot of time with her patient, but she can be detached and is very accepting of fatalities. Santos will ask to practice a medical procedure on a flatline who hasn't been declared dead yet, but she will do whatever is necessary to help the living. Abbot is a veteran who moonlight with the police forces, but he'll also volontaliry break the law so a teenager can get the abortion she wants... And I could go on like that with every single characters.
Because that's the thing with people : it's not so much the mesure of what's good or bad in them that make us love or despise them, but rather our love for them that makes us reconsider our definition of good and bad ; and it's our willingness to understand their flaws rather than ignore them that makes us connect, that makes us kind.
BS character introductions: John Silver ↳ [Good cooks are in short supply, even for criminals.] He couldn’t handle the thought of what you might do to him. [But you, cowering below decks, dodging a fight?] I, on the other hand, would very much like to join your crew. [They’ll gut you for sport.] My name is John Silver. And I happen to be a very good cook.
