Rocky + Movement Project Hail Mary (2026) dir. Phil Lord,Ā Chris Miller
Ryland Grace and Mark Watney sharing space recipes.
In my humble opinion those interested in writing anything about eridians should study up on andy weirās eridian lore document that is available publicly and for free to download there is so much fucking interesting stuff there. If you are writing a fic and you have a question about an Eridian function or if something was brought up in the book/movie then consult this. I know for a fact when i start writing a fic i have been thinking of that i will be taking notes on all of this
The last note about watching each other sleep being a preference but not a necessity really supports the fan-theory that Rocky is desperate to have Grace watch him because he's traumatized from losing his crew.
Doodle I did in church today
Itās a little weird that Grace just assumed meeting Rocky was first contact for both humans and Eridians but I guess it kinda makes sense and is semi plot necessary. but thereās a way funnier version where Grace is like the tenth alien race Rocky has seen. He has no idea humans have never met other sentient aliens & is like āoh yeah the ā«āt⪠āĖā¬s from the āĖ⬠system should be here soon too yeah they also have a petrova lineā and Grace is like āwait hold on what? who??ā & Rockyās like ā??? the ā«āt⪠āĖā¬s?? they won space hurling at last yearās interstellar olympics??ā and Grace goes āLAST YEARāS WHAT???ā
what if Graceās earnest desire to learn all he can about his new home Erid runs into a serious snag, when he finds out that almost all levels of existing Eridian formal academic institutions are intertwined with the cultural practice of thrumming ā which Grace is not biologically capable of participating in
and so Grace ends up implementing an āOpposite Dayā routine with his first classes of young Eridian students, where he periodically assigns a group of his kids to create and deliver to him an in-class presentation, human-style, on any topic of āEridian common knowledgeā of their choosing
imagine how hyped the little pebbles would be to bunch up in front of the classroomās clear Xenonite barrier and chatter about, like, the differences in local postal services across Erid, while their cool alien teacher ā whoās teaching them the basics of super advanced new concepts that even the really old and smart Eridians donāt fully understand yet!! ā sits utterly rapt and LOCKED IN, taking copious notes and peppering them with questions
Chapter 2, in which Grace achieves a chemistry-linguistics breakthrough.
Still based on @neutronian and @vonlipwig conversation and amazing pun!
Itās Tough Getting Older
holy shit this dude is killing it
Found the comedian, his name is Andy Huggins and here's his NPR interview
Chapter 1, in which Grace faces a tragedy.
Based on @neutronian and @vonlipwig brilliant conversation. Thank you both for inspiration!! āØļø
This counts as fan art
been phm pilled since I read it last summer so hereās a funny thatās been living in my brain since then
full thing below
Stratt... have many thoughts about her, all of them leave a gutwrenching pit in my stomach <3 love herr
Stratt might throw the fact that heās a middle school teacher in his face in the book, call him a coward for not pursuing more, but itās also the exact reason she keeps him around, why he ends up in her right hand, because who better to take a room full of hyper specific, jargon heavy science and break it down into the actual brass tacks in a way that is usable than someone whose entire job is translating complexity into understanding.
Being a middle school science teacher is not just āknowing science,ā itās knowing how to explain science, how to identify what actually matters, how to strip away excess without losing the meaning, how to read a room and adjust the explanation on the fly so it lands, how to turn confusion into something actionable.
Heās trained to take a dozen different half-understood concepts and turn them into one coherent idea that someone else can actually work with, which is exactly what Stratt needs when sheās dealing with experts who are brilliant in their fields but not always great at communicating with them.
So yeah, she can mock it all she wants, but at the end of the day, heās her handy dandy science translator, the guy who can take āwe have a catastrophic astrophysical problemā and turn it into āHere is what is happening, here is why it matters, and here is what we can actually do about itā in a way that cuts through the noise fast enough to keep up with the situation.
Reading the book and I love commander Yao going on about how going on the mission is completely voluntary and Grace can say no and there wonāt be anyone on his crew who didnāt wholly consent to being there
Meanwhile Eva ānuked the Antarcticā Stratt is sitting there needing to keep a straight face and pretend that Plan B isnāt just a tranquilizer gun and a comically large butterfly net
the obligatory trolley problem post
launch day
Grace think fondly of his scar if you even care.
