adding on to that jenny humphrey submission from a few weeks ago: she is literally the scapegoat for everyone's problems even when she had no part in it whatsoever. people straight up forgetting plotlines and how they Actually happened and not the versions they made up in their head. for example
"jenny ruins everyone's relationships": which is actually ridiculous. the following ships, chuck and blair. serena and nate, dan and vanessa, rufus and lily, nate and vanessa. for chuck and blair is so ridiculous because they were broken up when he slept with jenny in the most disgusting circumstances and that to this day, she STILL gets blamed for it when chuck gave her an ultimatum of saying "if you wanna stay, you do what I do" and she gets banished by blair and the fandom claps and cheers because "the evil was defeated". also, chuck and blair end up together in the end anyway (bleh), so who even cares? serena and nate! look, jenny played a part in causing trouble for them, but also, this happens right off the back of being roofied by her so-called friend and left in a bar to be assaulted, and nate saved her. its a classic trauma response to cling on to the person who saved you, especially someone she had a previous romance with. but they villainize her attachment by making her a homewrecker (especially they were trying to write her out of the show by doing this plotline so that nothing one would miss her when she left) when that relationship was doomed to fall anyway because while her attempts never worked, the only reason serena snd nate broke up is because they never trusted each other and confided in each others exes then each other. and serena cheated on nate with dan so. same with dan and vanessa because dan cheated on his girlfriend like the day after she left for haiti. "oh, but jenny exposed dan and serena on gossip girl" were her intentions pure? not really, but I think vanessa and nate deserved to know they were being cheated on. rufus and lily were already having problems because Once Again! keeping secrets and lies and dragging their kids into their mess that jenny doesn't feel emotionally stable and wants to go back to a time where things were simpler. also rufus and lily divorced like 2 seasons after jenny left for Other Reasons. and for the most ridiculous one being nate and vanessa bevause nate literally chose vanessa over jenny and they went on to have a happy and stable relationship til nate succumbed to his white privilege and ghosted vanessa for a week to emotionally cheat on her with blair (his ex) but SOMEHOW. people like to blame jenny when during this whole thing, she tells vanessa that they'll work it out because her and nate belong together.... some people would rather blame a girl that had no relevance to this plot than the man that ditched his girlfriend and the girl that encouraged him to break up his girlfriend..... the math is not mathing!
"she (and vanessa) drugged serena": wrong again! yes, she was apart of the scheme to turn everyone against serena but juliet was the one who drugged serena and pretended that serena had overdosed. and jenny, thinking it was her fault that what they did drove serena to it made her wanna confess before she was completely thrown under the bus by the people who were in on it
"she always ran away from home and always fights with rufus": wrong, she did it Once and that was after her dad tried to get her ARRESTED. other times people like to claim she "ran away from home" was for like a few hours and then came back the next day. my own dad has ran off for longer than that. and rufus is not that good of a dad, I get that he tries but also he clearly was not ready to handle a teenage girl in an environment where she has to do extreme things in order to fit in as well as her mother running off. dan has it easy because he's a guy, so rufus can deal with easy. he brushes off jenny's troubles as Typical Teenage Girl Stuff that he doesn't understand. and the fandom bashes her for being ungrateful to him when he does not know how to parent a teenage girl
and probably a bunch more, I can't name at the moment but here are also a couple more additions the fandom says about her that irk me:
"she's always scheming and stabbing everyone in the back" so was literally everyone on this show. to HER and to each other. blair, chuck, and even georgina are beloved, and they're always scheming and backstabbing. blair outs serena "killing" pete fairman to a bunch of people at yale as a way to get back at her when serena confided in her while in literal tears. chuck trafficks blair to get back his hotel. and georgina drugged serena and had dan spent an entire summer raising a kid that wasn't even his. hell, serena taped her and dan having sex without his consent. and nate runs a news editorial and helps expose people while bragging about how he never sent a tip into gossip girl. and look, jenny isn't perfect either but there's a double standard. especially with the jenny/eric feud in s3 that eric's boyfriend jonathan starts anyways and eric later on blames jenny for jonathan dumping him when its his own fault because he was determined to bring jenny down. but jenny is just the Evil Girl and eric is the Poor Helpless Victim. she wasn't the greatest friend but he wasn't a saint and thats what I like about him because he's imperfect in a show where everyone is imperfect.
"she was only good in s1 and was so pretty before she became emo" which is not only so misogynistic and spouting anti feminist rhetoric from the 1950s, they literally bash taylor momsen herself for it and constantly calling her and jenny a racoon. sending hate to a literal TEENAGER for that (along with jennys actions on the show). god forbid that a girl stands out from her peers and doesn't dress traditionally feminine. its no wonder why taylor didn't wanna be associated with this show for the longest time after leaving up until the past few years because look how the fandom treated her for a character she played (plus the media like perez hilton saying disgusting things about her on his blog but thats a whole other thing entirely). also jenny's style evolution and her fashion is some of the best to come out of the show but no one wants to admit that because they hate alternative girls. and also blame the destruction of her character on her style. dressing in dark colors doesn't make you evil, the environment you forced into and had to be someone you're not to survive is a more accurate description
and on, and on and on.... its actually never ending. she gets some of the WORST misogyny on this show alongside vanessa
