so when Lucas carries an unconscious max through a hospital filled with demo dogs itâs romantic but when Mike does the same thing with Will itâs not. ok.

Duffers:
this picture is literally insane now like all of this equaled to nothing i know the set designers were mad as hell
Conformitygate was a fun idea but I stand on the fact that the real reason all the costuming, set design, lighting and everything still reflects Byler is actually because Stranger Things is full of passionate artists and nerds who, in being that.....do not agree with how The Duffers ended the show.
And said "fuck this, dress him like his dad if you wanna give him that ending" "he hangs Will's painting over his bed actually fuck you, and it's right below his one way sign for an extra fuck you".
It wasn't the Duffers commenting on this. It was every passionate artist who loved this story so much and actually understood the characters, doing everything in their power to send the message through the screen everything from "this is ending is a dystopia" to "Byler are still endgame" or whatever each thing hints at. It's not theory or hint. It's spite.
Everything in their power to either imply the right ending is still out there for them in the future, or acknowledge that this is not it. Make that shit blue and yellow. Hang that painting above his bed. And if you're gonna write him into a conformist hellscape, I'm gonna dress him the way I did every time he was miserable and identical to the character who represents misery in conformity.
It wasn't a promise of a better ending. It was a fuck you to this one.
I kind of canât think of a more cohesive and relevant way to describe the stranger things finale other than the conclusion of jenny nicholsonâs 6 year old rise of skywalker review: âI think the worst thing a franchise ending can do is make you feel kind of stupid and embarrassed for being so excited about it in the first place. I thought going into it that I might not like where some of the characters ended up, especially in an era of filmmaking where it seems more important to make sure the audience doesnât predict whatâs going to happen over making a satisfying ending, but I wasnât even really sad or mad about any of the story developments because it was so sloppy that it totally broke my suspension of disbelief.â
âthere were no signs, youâre misreading Mikeâ and yet you knew exactly what the first one was supposed to imply while totally ignoring the implications of the second. Right.
also why was will so important that the lab made a fake body of him to keep him in the upside down!! they didnt do that for barb or the other people who went missing!! WHY WAS WILL SO IMPORTANT TO NOT BE FOUND?? WHY WAS WILL THE FIRST VICTIM?HOW DO YOU CREATE AN ENTIRE STORY ABOUT THIS AND NEVER ANSWER THIS QUESTION???
this is lowkirkenuinely going to send me into psychosis
FOUND U
OH MY GOD
parallel of s2 finale where theyâre chopping vecna and willâs screaming & writhing in pain and jonathanâs nearly sick to his stomach but they literally have to keep going
prev i hadnât even thought of it like this ohh my god. the gifsets that couldâve been made abt that foreshadowing i just fell to my knees. the final iconic will neck touch being him feeling vecna's head being separated from his body.....
byler nation start writing those screenplays NOW
everything about elevenâs character is misogynistic. she barely escaped her abusers and, within a week, they put her into a relationship when she didnât even know how to form a sentence or understand what privacy, friends, or a promise were. they never explored her personal interests. she never had the chance to live a normal life or to have a moment where she knew everything was going to end. she talks about feeling like she doesnât belong anywhere, and in reality, sheâs right, she doesnât belong anywhere. she didnât even get the chance to see her mother one last time. they gave her a female friendship that helped develop her character beyond the men in her life, and in the last season they donât even seem close anymore. they had to remove max from her life so mike could be the center and so she could say that heâs the one who understands her the most. she was born out of the âborn sexy yesterdayâ trope, sheâs mikeâs manic pixie dream girl, and to top it all off, she died as one of the most well known misogynistic tropes, the woman in the refrigerator.
they turned her death into a manâs story. her father, who spent every season crying over his daughterâs death, got over it in a matter of months. her friends donât even mention her. the duffers really wanted to make it seem like mike is the only one who cares, because this is the story of a straight white man. she was only there to be the magical girl who changes his boring life and takes him on an adventure, only to die afterward, because she isnât a person, sheâs a symbol of the male protagonistâs childhood. even her own creators talk about her as if she were a dog, an alien pet of their self insert character.
the same misogynistic story as always.
WHAT KIND OF DRUGS ARE THEY ON?!
is it just me or is this paragraph incoherent?
It is incoherent. If she didn't make it to the gate - even though they ALL saw that - then....... what the fuck even
Wut?
We gave these two waaaaay too much credit.
The conversation in the void never happened? That's quite literally the only part of it that does make sense considering El was legit missing from the scene.
Her appearing at the gate without anyone noticing? Sure, that's questionable.
Her somehow sneaking away, whether it to the gate or tunnels, without anyone, be it her friends or the military, noticing? That requires a lot of suspension of disbelief. She was the primary target for Kay. She'd be the first one they grab.
Kali casting an illusion from miles away in the Upside Down when she was bleeding out earlier? Damn near impossible.
Kay and the military up and leaving Hawkins in peace because El was dead and the Upside Down destroyed? Straight up plot hole they just didn't care to address.
But that entire void conversation between El and Mike not ever happening is just straight up lying to the audience in order to make a dramatic scene. Yes, it was contrived to begin with, but it makes no sense for them to have shown that scene at that moment if it didn't happen. Maybe if they had Mike "remembering" it as he sat by the monument, it could've worked. It would've been a false memory he created to try to cope. But, no, they showed Mike experiencing that in the moment.
God, even conformitygate makes more sense than this ending, and that's saying something. Because the only alternative to piss poor writing is that someone else was responsible for that scene.
They're basically admitting that their ending makes no sense.
Maybe we were the ones being Vecna'd all along, after all.
But it's not a part of any clever secret final episode reveal. If anything, it'll just maybe be a hint to a future project in the franchise.
Wait a minute. As incoherent as it is, as if they are saying Eleven never communicated with Mike, than this is just a problem with montage, and also it means El did die and Mike created this whole story just to cope, or to give his friends some kind of hope. It would make more sense to be a Mike delulu, because everything El said was out of character, so it could be Mike wanting to be the person who understood El the most and etc and received the âI love youâ (remembering that he himself didnât tell her that, more evidences that maybe this dialogue wasnât real at all). And I think this is all more about GUILT than TRULY loving Jane. It is pretty selfish, if you ask me, but also normal as hell. But I have nothing left to sympathize with his character anymore, because this plus the way he treated Will all along make me disgusted.
I'm told the answer is about the idea that Mike felt El communicating with him at graduation, and that's how he came up with her escape story.
But that makes zero sense, as there's no indication he's hearing her. I have no idea why people would draw such a baseless conclusion. It's just the speakers reminding him that kryptonite was present.
how does he know about the kryptonite in the first place? did i miss something or was it only shown to affect elâs powers in scenes involving only hopper and/or kali?
The thing is, they could have written a one-sided Byler so easily and it be satisfying.
And all they had to do was have Will be the one behaving weirdly in S3 and 4.
Have Mike remain the steadfast friend we saw in S2, not understanding why he's being pushed away.
But instead, they gave us Mike being what is now just flat out homophobic (as opposed to internalised homophobia as we previously thought) and expect the "No, Best Friends đ" to be a fix it.
I mean. I guess after all it truly was only ONE WAY for Mike â into the closet and hiding there forever.
i just know finn wolfhard lays awake at night wondering what about his face is so fucking gay that every casting director within a 50 mile radius is on him in a second. why he has played more queer roles by the time he is in his early twenties then any actually gay person could ever aspire to even imagine. like i know its talked about lot but thatâs because it is just so crazy. is he aware that his entire career is fully reliant on people making more weird little gay guys and i wonder how he feels about that
Soon it's literally going to be a spoiler to anyone watching the movie/show that the character will end up being gay simply because Finn Wolfhard is playing him.
coming back to byler from 2022 and i still canât stop thinking about this post
Hmm
The ship is literally setting sail once Mike puts the puzzle together.
Is Rainbow Brite supposed to be Robin steering the ship?
Signals being a central part of the missions...
Signals being the term Robin uses for queer coded advances...
Will being a human receiver...
Bylers I love you
