twitter discourse on taika is wild, and i'm not going to talk about it in detail, but it all makes me melancholy bc the dude has been talking more and more about how he relates to blackbeard as someone who's stuck in an industry he's starting to hate -- and on top of that he's never made it a secret that he grew up very poor, and when interviewers have asked him his favorite thing about making marvel movies his answer has been "money" and everyone assumes he's doing some good ol' dry Kiwi humor but nah.

this isn't me being like "waah we should all feel very personally worried about this megastar and his emotions" because he's got people, he can deal. but it's interesting to think about, this idea of someone who's gotten so big in current media that anything he slaps his name on brings in billions of dollars.
