Calling all creators of Middle-earth—whether you wield a pen, stylus, or keyboard, it’s nearly time to return and see what stories are waiting for you this season. Artists will soon begin shaping the works that set everything in motion, and from there, writers will find the pieces that call to them and carry those stories forward.

From quiet corners of the Shire to darker roads best not walked alone, there’s room here for every kind of tale.

Whether you’re returning or joining for the first time, we’d love to have you along for the journey.

Welcome back to the 2026 Tolkien Reverse Summer Bang!

Another summer in Middle-earth is soon to begin, and we are glad to have both returning and new writers and artists joining us. As always, the journey starts with the artists—whose work will inspire the stories that follow. We look forward to seeing the many corners of Tolkien’s legendarium brought to life through your creativity.

To help spark a few ideas, we’ve opened the Art Suggestion Form. This is a completely optional space where writers and other interested participants can share prompts or concepts that artists might find inspiring.

Artists are welcome to browse the list, ignore it entirely, or follow their own road—as all good wanderers of Arda are wont to do. Suggestions are simply a pool of possibilities, not obligations.

Hidden Paths - Announcement for 2026

Hi folks,

I am sorry to be announcing this, but due to work, life, and studying commitments, I will not be creating new prompts for Hidden Paths this year.

The AO3 collection will remain open for you to post any works based on the smaller Tolkien canons, including those originally created for other events. Works based on previous prompts are always welcome; old prompts can be found here.

I hope to run the event with a fresh batch of prompts in 2027. Until then, take care and all the very best.

Tolkien Reverse Summer Bang 2025 Reveals

The TRSB25 Mod Team is proud to announce that this year's Reveals will happen tomorrow, on Saturday, September 6th, at 20:00 CET (what time is that for me?). When the clock strikes the full hour, our AO3 Collection is going to GO LIVE! This year, it will be full of great stories and poems as well as art pieces in a wide range of mediums (digital art, traditional art, oil on canvas, origami, lego, various crafts... you name it!). Here is the link to the Tolkien Reverse Summer Bang 2025 AO3 Collection. You will be able to access it starting tomorrow. We expect quite a bit of traffic in the first hours after Reveals so please bear with us.

The forests of western Ithilien, requested by @mysarcasticgreencrayon

This board was really fun to make because the forests here are different than a lot of the other forests in Tolkien’s works. I definitely want to make some environment posts for this region!

Many of the plants featured here including asphodel, thyme and terebrinth are mentioned in canon!
