7 month progress recovering from an alopecia arreata flare up. From bald to normal after two rounds of steroid shots. Think I am done now! Here’s to hopefully no more for a long time…
Feeling good about my hair nowadays. With my thyroid issues it shedded and was thinned out sooo badly a few years back. That was actually all of my hair in a single ratty braid.
And now end of January 2017 the hair is growing back in finally :) still a bit patchy so I am getting a few more steroid shots but I am so relieved this last year was really terrible.
January 2017 and 6months since the hair was lost, only a few weeks after seeing a dermatologist in December for steroid shots. A blue shadow forming underneath my skin means hair follicles! Fellow alopecia arreata patients keep in mind if it's only one area and you had it happen as a child, it is likely to regrow. Don't lose hope!
Kind of felt like a Greek goddess in this one thanks to Snapchat filters making my skin look nice lol. November 2016 month #4 since my eyebrow went bald. I was suicidal and losing hope at this point, feeling like a freak every time I looked in the mirror. But I don't regret at least documenting it so I can look back on it now.
September 2016 eyebrow still totally bald and baby smooth. Month #2 since it spontaneously shedded itself.
Just wanted to thank you for talking about Xolair, I mentioned it to my doctor and he said that's a definite possibility once we rule out a few other things. I wouldn't have known about it otherwise. Thank you!
Hi! Sorry for not seeing this message for some reason my secondary account notifications don't show. I am glad that the Xolair mentions were useful, good luck to you and your doctor I hope they figure something out for you soon. I am still using it this year too and it's great.
Had a really bad autoimmune reaction back in July 2016 that resulted in my eyes and lips swelling, and half my eyebrow shedding. I had alopecia arreata as a child and it likely resurfaces through adulthood during major life stresses. I was buying and selling a home after moving states around this time last year lol... so now I'm going to share the rest of my journey of its regrowth which took 6 months.
Seriously though… I’m sure every spoonie knows this feeling.
Nope. Still suffering. Fuck my life.
So my immunologist and other research always mention dental work causing HAE triggers. But maybe other sensitive areas can too? I got the Mirena IUD (birth control) placed today and after a nap to escape the cramps I woke up to feeling like I had eggs underneath my eyelids. I have not had a Hereditary Angioedema flare up in almost a year so it was really bizarre. Any other similar experiences out there? Otherwise just an FYI to be careful and plan your day well if getting an IUD for the aftercare.

Stress eating
For some reason whenever I am stressed I turn to eating all the bread and cheese and cravings that I KNOW I am allergic to. Why do I keep letting myself get caught in this cycle of self destruction? Am I just never wanting to lose weight or hoping I go into anaphylactic shock some day? Shit has been so negative for me lately. I don't have the energy to put up with this.
