However, post-Eddie moving in, has newly discovered his zest for life and takes incredible, manic, gleeful delight in the looks of horror Eddie gives to his taste in garden decor. And he doesn’t really have a landscaper anymore because Eddie likes doing it anyway and Richie knows he secretly likes grumbling at the pink flamingos and their dumb garden flags. And then the HOA letters come in and Richie now has a front row seat to the technical, violent war of attrition that is Eddie vs the HOA and his seemingly endless capacity for malicious compliance.

It's so easy to forget this is true sometimes. The same way people often think good, positive things about us and we'll never know because they don't express it vocally. We get so used to hate speech and judgement in our daily lives, we often forget that the inside of people's heads doesn't have to be a bad place. It can be a place of kindness and thoughtfulness and decency. We just expect the worst because we have been taught that way, and we forget there is another.

This encapsulates a lot of the kind of tangled feelings I have about people being so effusive about how much these doctors care and ‘lol that’s so unrealistic, the real doctors don’t care’ and I do. I care so much. I care so fucking much and I will still let you yell at me or tell me I’m doing a bad job or tell people whatever you want about doctors because that stuff makes me feel bad, but ultimately that doesn’t matter
