The clock on the shopâs coffee machine showed just past 6 am and it would still be an hour until you opened. Still, you somehow found yourself making coffee. Lin had texted you 6 minutes ago now. It was an emergency, he had said âhe needed coffee asapâ and like the true friend you were, you had, of course, decided to come through for him.
So, when he arrived at the coffee shop 5 minutes later, a to-go cup was already filled with coffee and placed on the counter, just waiting to be drunk by him. âY/N. Thank God, youâre an angel,â he practically beamed at you as he stepped inside. Despite the fact that he seemed overly energetic, you could tell that he was more exhausted than usual.
âYou look tired,â you stated.
For once, Lin actually decided that he had the time to sit down. So, he sat down at the table your own coffee cup was placed at. âDo you wanna sit?â He questioned.
You sighed. You were supposed to be getting the shop ready, though you figured you were able to sit down for a couple of minutes, so you sat down at the table across from him.
âWhatâs going on Lin? You look so exhausted. A lot more than usual,â you worriedly asked. You did not like seeing your friend like this though.
He chuckled a bit, which did little to calm you down in any way. âRelax, Y/N. Nothing happened. I guess Sebastian is just pretty great at keeping Vanessa and me up at night,â he explained.
You let out a sigh of relief. âNext time, maybe start with that when I say that you look tired,â you snorted and reached out to give his shoulder a slight nudge.
âAw, you were worried about me,â he teased.
âShut up, Lin,â you rolled your eyes at him. To be fair, you feared that something horrible had happened. Though, you were glad that it was just Sebastian being⊠well, a child.
âAnyway, I hear youâre going on a date with Oak?â He was clearly pretty excited about it. Seeing his friends happy was something that mattered a lot to Lin. Besides, he knew this was probably kind of a big deal to you. He had seen how you looked at Oak when you visited the theatre after all.
You shook your head a little at that. âWellâŠâ You started, which he frowned at. âHe asked me out and I said to ask me in two weeks. I donât know anything about him yet, Lin. I mean heâs a great, but my knowledge is limited to whatâs on the internet,â you elaborated with a shrug.
Unsurprisingly, he seemed very understanding. That is one of the things you loved about your newly found friend. His ability to see things from the perspective of others, his ability to simply listen and say the things you needed to hear. âI hope you let yourself get to know him, Y/N. Heâs a pretty great guy and the fact that he already adores you enough to ask you out is a pretty big deal.â He wants both of you to be happy after all.
âI hope Iâll be able to get to know him as well. And I know that he is, which is why I donât wanna jump straight into this. I donât want it to be just about sex, you know? Thatâs usually how things end if you go on a date with someone right away. At least, in my experience.â
Lin actually looked a little worried by the things you told him. To him, a date was never supposed to be like that and he wondered which kind of guys you had been seeing before. He just hoped that you would let Oak take you out on a date at some point, to show you that what you just explained was not how a date was supposed to be. Ever. âA date isnât supposed to be in any way, Y/N. You must have been with some pretty horrible guys if theyâve convinced you that it is how a date with someone you donât know is supposed to be,â he explains and takes a sip of his coffee. You know it will burn his tongue before the cup even touches his lips, though he does not seem to mind too much.
âAll Iâm saying is; even if you donât feel like you know him that well after those two weeks, at least give him a chance. Both of you deserve it,â he adds before you are able to come up with a reply to the previous part.
You let out a defeated sigh. Not because Lin has talked you into something you do not want but because you know he is right. It seems scary to be going on a date with someone you have had on a celebrity crush on for quite a while now.
âOkay, I guess youâre right,â you finally decided.
âGreat. Do you wanna come to the theatre later? I never got to show you around, I know that youâre a lil theatre nerd,â he teased, though clearly, he did not mind at all. You figured he was just as much of a nerd as you were, if not more.
You snorted slightly at his words. âOnly if you donât call me âa lil theatre nerdâ ever again,â you replied, though your grin betrayed you in a matter of seconds, which made him laugh.
âSomeoneâs noseâs gonna grow like Pinocchioâs,â he joked, and you rolled your eyes. âOak will be there too,â he added shortly after, which made you blush.
âIf I become too embarrassing, please feel free to throw me out.â You were not actually sure whether you were being serious or not, but perhaps there was some truth to it. You did not want to make a fool of yourself.
Lin let out a small snort at that. âThey adore you, Y/N. We all do. Especially Oak,â he grinned like an idiot.
âOh shut up,â you replied, though you were not able to hide the slight hint of red that appeared on your cheeks. âWhen do you want me to show up?â
âWell, itâs a two-show night, so preferably in our break,â he chuckled, which you simply rolled your eyes at.
âYeah, I figured. But when is your break, exactly?â
âYes, Iâm getting to that. Iâd say around 5 PM,â he explained.
After you finished your shift at the coffee shop, you had decided to head home for a shower and a change of clothes. You knew you would feel self-conscious around Oak if you had not. Besides you had a couple of assignments handed to you by your lecturer, which you would ultimately have to finish in the small amount of time you would actually be home today. Though somehow you magically managed to finish it and as you headed out the door of your apartment again, you felt a little more relaxed. Sure, you were nervous about the prospect of seeing Oak again, but you were also looking forward to it.
âIâm bringing coffee. What do you guys want?â You texted Lin on your way towards the Richard Rodgers Theatre. You figured you might as well.
âYou are an angel, Y/N. Most people are satisfied with drinking the theatreâs coffee, though I think Oak and I would like the usual,â he replied soon after. âOh, and Daveed would like a black coffee too, apparently.â
You smiled a little at his message, though you decided against replying. You would be there soon anyway.
After having picked up coffee for the three of them and your favorite for yourself as well, you finally headed to the theatre. You were let in by security after Daveed had vouched for you and as soon as you were inside, you were pulled into a tight embrace by him.
âHey man,â he said as he let go of you again.
You laughed softly. âHi Daveed,â you shook your head a little at him and handed him the cup of coffee you had pretty much promised him. âItâs on the house,â you explained when he looked confused about the fact that you did not hand over a bill or anything.
âOh, right. Thanks. Youâre a saint Y/N.â He then pulled you into a quick hug again. âSo, do you wanna go see Oak?â He questioned after taking a sip of his coffee.
You rolled your eyes at his question, though no matter how hard you tried to ignore it, you still felt the soft heat spread through your cheeks. âSure. Iâve got coffee for Lin as well,â you tried to say as casually as possible.
âYeah, but we all know who youâre really here to see,â Daveed pointed out and gave your shoulder a slight nudge.
You were luckily saved by Lin as he showed up shortly after and you could not help the almost relieved breath which left your lips. It is not that you did not like Daveed, you did. Though, you thought that your obvious attraction to Oak was a little embarrassing.
âHey Y/N. Is he annoying you?â Lin joked, nodding towards Daveed.
You gave Lin a short hug and then handed over his cup. âOnly a little,â you joked. Clearly, you did not mind the company of either of the two men. In fact, you enjoyed it quite a lot. You just did not have any idea how to reply to Daveedâs previous words, though luckily you would not have to now. Hopefully.
âI think thereâs someone else whoâd like to say hi to you too. ⊠Can you take her to Oakâs dressing room, Daveed?â Lin questioned.
âYou guys are way too much,â you snorted. However, you were soon led through the corridors of the Richard Rodgers theatreâs backstage area, towards what you expected to be Oakâs dressing room and Daveed barely managed to knock on the door of the dressing room with his name on it, before he disappeared down the hallway. You only felt like you had been set up slightly.
âOne second,â Oakâs voice called from the other side of the door. Though, once he opened it, he clearly had not expected to see you standing there. He looked very surprised at first, though a smile soon broke out on his lips and it made your knees feel a little weaker. âY/N?â He questioned with a chuckle. Frankly, you felt just as surprised as he looked.
âWhat are you doing here?â
âLin didnât tell you? He asked if I wanted to come by during your break⊠So, I did?â You were actually not too surprised. Ever since he had realized that you had a crush on Oak, he would not let it go and you were fairly certain that everyone else knew as well. Oak had asked you out, so it could not be all that bad, right?
âOh, I guess he forgot to mention that,â he stated. You both knew that it was not the case though. âYou brought coffee?â He asked after a moment of simply looking at you.
âWhatever gets you through the day,â you joked, which actually made him laugh and that made you feel pretty grateful. âSure, coffee with milk, right?â
âCoffee with milk,â he confirmed and after pulling you into a quick hug, he let you into the dressing room and you handed him the cup of coffee with his name on it. âSorry about the mess,â he said as he closed the door behind you.
You shook your head a little at his apology. It did not bother you at all. Besides, you had seen a lot worse anyway. âMay I?â You questioned and nodded towards the couch which took up a lot of the space and as you nodded, the two of you sat down together. You spent a while simply talking, getting to know each other at a nice and slow pace. It made you happy that he seemed to accept the fact that you wanted to get to know him before going on a date with him and he genuinely seemed interested in knowing more about you as well.
As you worked your way through your drinks, you realized it would not be too long before you would have to separate. He had to be on stage soon after all, though you felt really comfortable in his company and he seemed to enjoy yours as well, so you lingered for a bit.
âYou should get back to work,â you said after a while.
âYeah,â he replied. He did not seem to want to move though. He looked like he wanted to say something, though he did not. The two of you simply seemed to look at each other for a minute and you were the first to look away, a slight blush creeping onto your cheeks.
âWhat?â You questioned with a slightly embarrassed giggle.
He smiled. âNothing, I was just wondering if drinking coffee in my dressing room counts as a date,â he replied honestly.
You had wondered the exact same thing as well. In a way, you sort of wanted it to be the case. That way, it would seem easier to ease into actual dates like going out to dinner or something else. But, on the other hand, you were not sure. âDo you want it to be?â You finally ended up questioning.
He seemed to contemplate it for a second, then shrugged. âI donât know. I donât think this is the first date I want to take you on.â
You shook your head a little, letting out a small laugh. âWho said I said yes to going on a date with you?â You teased. You felt like in some way you already had.
