The way I know that most progressives and leftists aren’t serious about power and change is because they won’t take imperfect candidates they can ride as far as they want and build up strength and use them to benefit themselves. Because that’s what the republicans did and do and it’s paid off for them.

The Forerunner (1894) by Eugène Trigoulet
the aroace read of ryland grace is so personal and haunting. "you don't even have a dog." was it not enough to love the world for the sake of living in it. was it not enough to live for the thrill of discovery. was it not enough to smile at your students. was it not enough to be afraid.
luke skywalker in the context of andor is sooooo. smiley insane overpowered teenager from the middle of fucking nowhere shows up at the eleventh hour No credentials No connections No resumé just happened to somehow rescue alderaanian senator leia organa from the death star with an absolutely braindead gambit in which he just. pretended to be a stormtrooper, with a wookiee in tow. then he gets in an X-wing for the first time ever, turns off the targeting computer, and blows up the greatest weapon the empire has ever created with one fuckoff impossible shot. meanwhile all these rebels who have spent years, their entire lives, existing in fear and deprivation and exile, painstakingly building this movement with their bare hands, paying in blood and sweat and tears, so far removed from the world of the jedi that the knights and the force are just stories now, to most of them -- these brave exhausted souls who know that no one person can stand against the empire, that it takes community, it takes trust, it takes you and the guy standing next to you -- find themselves watching essentially the rebirth of a mythological protector, in the form of a guy who's probably not legally old enough to drink, who sulks like a teenager whenever notorious smuggler han solo doesn't pay attention to him, who follows biggs around like a puppy, who falls for literally every prank anyone ever plays on him. and this idiot kid is the first person in a generation who can stand up to the empire, all alone, and make a difference. how much must they hate him and how much must they love him and how much must they fear losing him.
It works for civilian and silly fun, but i cannot take it when its a part of an analysis or story trying to take the situation seriously. Gun to my head i could not name you the child of ANY billionaire or millionaire or whatever the fuck simply because they're the child of them. Id never be able to put a face to them. AT BEST, i would hear the headline of some absurd thing several years ago.
"People have been pointing out that Bruce Wayne has enough children to correlate with the bats" "Bruce Wayne has children?"
The park and the angel of death (1890) by Gustave Moreau
azune being extremely straightforward until faced with someone he isn’t close to like that and immediately turning into a lying liar who lies is kind of the funniest shit in the world to me. especially because he keeps going so hard with it like he will take any opportunity to say some bullshit. ‘thjazi fang not only kidnapped me when i was 12 he also murdered my parents’ YOU DID NOT NEED TO SAY ALL THAT!
the thing is, im always interested in The Paperwork. whenever The Characters moan and groan about The Paperwork and whenever it's left unspecified what The Paperwork entails i go aw... The Paperwork... u dont deserve this attitude, The Paperwork... im sure you're very interesting and important... this is because i like my job at The Paperwork factory and because i like homework and it's also because The Characters often hold positions of power attained through superhuman abilities and enforced with violence and i know that The Paperwork is there, aspirationally, to document their actions and protect people. from institutional neglect and from The Characters. when The Characters ignore The Paperwork to fuck each other on The Desk i think less of them for it. i do.

READY OR NOT 2: HERE I COME (2026)
After the wedding, Alex tells me I have to pull a card, play whatever game it says. Some kind of initiation ritual, which I thought was weird, but I wanted them to like me because they were gonna be my new family. Anyway, I pull hide-and-seek, and it gets real quiet, because apparently… that's the bad card. And they think they have to try to sacrifice me to the devil. They told me I could win if I stayed hidden till dawn. But they thought if I won, they'd die. So they hunted me. I got… shot through the hand. Beat to shit by a butler. Then my… my husband stabbed me.
"If you accept any food from the fae, they shall never let you go" is a human belief. The fair folk stand by the principle that if you feed 'em, you gotta keep 'em. If wildlife learns to rely on you for food, you have already fucked up, and you can't just stop feeding them cold turkey. That human is your responsibility now. Because you left your peach cobbler unsupervised.
Things Hero is down for with 0 context:
Bullying another student out of lunch.
Marching the hungry students to go pick up more food.
Keeping quiet that the Halovars are harvesting celestial blood from an imprisoned angel.
Turning people to stone (because that's definitely what basilisk duty is, it's definitely not trying to cure petrification).
a lot of stories are about the fantasy of someone going to find you when u disappear from a group function
I'm going to start a collection of panels of various DC characters telling Batman he ain't shit in a probably doomed effort to make tumblr understand that other superheroes are not actually that impressed or scared by him. Starting off with a couple of my favorites:
HE HAS NO REJOINDER. Steph you are my everything.
Again, Bruce has nothing to say BECAUSE WALLY'S RIGHT AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT.
not related to the post concept, but that last image
roy you arent Allowed to look awkward you said the exact same fucking thing to him😭😭😭
You can always count on the Green Lanterns to give zero fucks about Batman's menacing glare. Exhibit A: Guy Gardner, President of the "Bats Ain't Shit" Club
Not even the rookies are intimidated by him, as Simon kindly demonstrates in Green Lanterns. Even funnier, this issue began with Simon's internal narration talking about how nervous he was about working with Batman. That feeling lasted all of five minutes before the two got into a shouting match in front of Commissioner Gordon.
Of course, Green Lantern: Rebirth is just full of moments like this. For starters, John is having absolutely none of Batman's bullshit regarding Hal
Then there's Hal's iconic one-punch knocking Spooky on his ass in front of the Justice League
And even the old man steps in to tell Bruce to mind his own business
Even Kyle and Jessica, who are arguably the GLs that have the best working relationship with Batman, don't hesitate to get up in his face
I'm like 99% sure Jo hasn't met Batman yet, but I have no doubt that she'll get her turn to yell at him
Starman 1994 #33
Gotta love Jack Knight!
i like a character who follows all of the rules their whole life and then ends up with big fucking nothing except their own self righteous #coping because the rules arent actually good for them or for anybody else
what’s especially good is when following #therules is the most immediately reasonable or pragmatic option; when consequences for disobedience are swift and severe on a basically existential level; or when thecharacter perceives the rules as essentially inviolable because of constant inescapable reinforcement/disciplining/divine will if there’s godwizards, and cannot imagine behaving outside of them; etc. But she still takes pride in her active compliance and genuinely expects to be rewarded because what else is there. in a way the only real choice she’s making is to wholeheartedly buy into the choices being imposed upon her. coping all the way down and yea shes a girl #posttwist
