TOMORROW IS HALLOWEEN!!!
WHAT THE FUCK IT’S CHRISTMAS EVE WHY DID SOMEONE REBLOG THIS
TOMORROW IS HALLOWEEN!!!
SERIOUSLY?! THIS IS CHRISTMAS EVE WHY WOULD YOU REBLOG THIS?!
TOMORROW IS HALLOWEEN!!!
One of my favorite things about Pride and Prejudice is the Bennet family’s complete cluelessness about Darcy and Elizabeth. Like, if this were a tv show about the Bennets, Darcy and Elizabeth are like, the D storyline. The whole family is trying to get Jane and Bingley together, the regiment is stationed in Meryton, Mr. Collins is taking the house, Lydia and Wickham are obviously the climax, these people have a lot going on. And then, once the regiment has left and Jane and Lydia and Mr. Collins are married and everything seems resolved: plot twist! They’ve got random nobility at the door in the middle of the night telling the know-it-all sister who has been home on and off through the year not to marry the rando rich guy they all hate simply because they’re family and loyal to each other damnit and he called the know-it-all sister ugly once.
And then, of course, they all find out Lizzy and Darcy are actually very in love and literally all of the good things that have happened to them this year are a direct consequence of Darcy loving Lizzy lolol.
You know, this is a great take. Never thought about it this way.
Reminds me when the BLM movement started and people were like "Why are you against America" and they said "We're against racism, YOU assume that means we're against America and that speaks volumes."
y'all ever get bored but like in an angry way….like you keep picking things up and putting them down bc none of them is The Right Thing and you have like pent up manic energy but absolutely nothing is holding your interest long enough to release it and you’re just >:(
!!! this is understimulation! you need to do something, anything, preferably multiple things at once, to get yourself out of this mood before you can find something that will actually hold your interest. exercise is good for this, but only if you’re playing a podcast or music at the same time. or go for a drive and get food if it gets you out of the house. do not try to do a quiet activity at home. you will not have a miraculous breakthrough and enjoy it. you need to move, be loud, and overwhelm your senses.
—Andrea Gibson, "Good Light," Lord of the Butterflies
so andrea gibson died early this morning, and man.... this one really hurts. to think they will never write something new.
andrea was an amazing poet - and still is an amazing poet, since their words will continue to touch & save people long after they've gone. I met them after one of their shows to have them sign a poster. my friend before me in line gave this very long heartfelt speech about what andrea's poems meant to her. I couldn't think of anything to say when it was my turn, so I said (apologetically), "I don't have anything profound to say, I just love you."
andrea looked up at me and asked, "what could be more profound than that?"
A lot of people around me are having kids and every day it becomes more apparent that hitting your children to punish them is insane because literally everything can be a horrible punishment in their eyes if you frame it as such.
Like, one family makes their toddler sit on the stairs for three minutes when he hits his brother or whatever. The stairs are well lit and he can see his family the whole time, he’s just not allowed to get up and leave the stairs or the timer starts over. He fucking hates it just because it’s framed as a punishment.
Another family use a baseball cap. It’s just a plain blue cap with nothing on it. When their toddler needs discipline he gets a timeout on a chair and has to put the cap on. When they’re out and about he just has to wear the cap but it gets the same reaction. Nobody around them can tell he’s being punished because it’s in no way an embarrassing cap, but HE knows and just the threat of having to wear it is enough.
And there isn’t the same contempt afterwards I’ve seen with kids whose parents hit them. One time the kid swung a stick at my dog, his mother immediately made him sit on the stairs, he screamed but stayed put, then he came over to my dog and gently said “Sorry Ellie” and went back to playing like nothing happened, but this time without swinging sticks at the nearby animals.
The psych nerds found out ages ago that punishments that make the child think for a few minutes (about one minute or year of age until they're tweens) is much more helpful to develope social intelligence and understanding than punishments which prevents thinking, like the ones that involve pain. In fact, corporal punishment encouraged lying, extreme reactions, violent outbursts, go figure, they don't trust you.
This is all really fucking serious and important and I'm mainly reblogging for that, because this correct mentality needs to be spread around more, but I'm also reblogging because I absolutely lost it at the child who dreads having to wear the normal blue hat of shame.
hard cider was invented when someone decided to make beer that tastes good instead of bad
stupid fuckin post. People have been making beer since before they even knew how to write and you think that they don’t like the way it tastes?
damn all that time and it still tastes really bad. huge L tbh

the thing is that childhood doesn't just end when you turn 18 or when you turn 21. it's going to end dozens of times over. your childhood pet will die. actors you loved in movies you watched as a kid will die. your grandparents will die, and then your parents will die. it's going to end dozens and dozens of times and all you can do is let it. all you can do is stand in the middle of the grocery store and stare at freezers full of microwave pizza because you've suddenly been seized by the memory of what it felt like to have a pizza party on the last day of school before summer break. which is another ending in and of itself
Hey.
This is one of the reasons why you should be kind to older people.
This happens more and more, harder and harder, and dealing with it that often is pretty rough.
Let them tell their stories.
