I attended a campfire presentation by a park ranger who described Osprey as "both the pickiest and least picky eaters of all time."

They're the pickiest because they only eat things they can catch by plunging into at least six feet of water feet-first and are as close to their maximum carrying capacity as possible, to maximize calories-per-trip.

They're the Least Picky because so long as something fits those parameters, Osprey will go for it.

The ranger then showed us an extensive slide show of the local osprey in flight with their catches, which included: trout, carp, snakes, bass, eels, small sharks, ducks, surprisingly large catfish, a nerf football, muskrats, a summer sausage that fell off a boat, sneakers, a fish previously thought to be extinct in the area, a Barbie Doll, and another osprey.

What is your favorite thing Babybel has ever done? Give us the top ten Babybel clips compilation please ^_^

i should make a top ten babybel clips compilation and post it on youtube just for you. not sure if i will actually get around to it but i would love to. it would be five million hours long.

favorite thing he's ever done is hard though. there's a bunch of stuff he does regularly that i love (his requests to take a bath, him jumping on my shoulder whenever i go out in the morning to feed everyone, how he gets all round and fluffy when he's comfortable, his beautiful song and dance).

one of my favorite things however is that he is worshipped by a pack of children that my friend teaches (idk if she wants me to tag her in this post given it's about her irl job). one day archeologists are going to consider babybel to be a low-level deity worshipped mostly by children in one specific area. they even sang him happy birthday in his native language (the word "peep" over and over again) when he turned one. so not really my favorite thing He has done, but i think it counts.

You know, an interesting tumblr transformation that's happened gradually, and which I've seen no one talk about: ask-culture has essentially dropped off to nothing.

By which I mean, asks used to be WAY more of the tumblr economy. They used to be more common to send, and receive, and see. They were integral to the collaborative, forum-like behavior of old tumblr communities, not even to speak on the HUGE number of ask-blogs that used to exist to only be interacted with in ask-form.

I'm not saying this in a vying-for-attention way but instead in an observational way: I used to get way way more asks in like 2015, even with a fraction of my follower count. I wonder if it's due to the homogenization of social media sites? There's a lot more of this divide between "content creator" and "consumer" instead of just a bunch of peer blogs who would talk to each other. "Asks" aren't really a thing on twitter, are they? And as I understand it, the closest thing to an "ask" on instagram or tiktok would be a creator screenshotting some comment and responding to it in a new reel or video or whatever those content mediums are. Are asks just too tumblr-specific? Is that aspect of the site culture dying out as more and more people converge to using all their social media sites in the same way?

it's probably from assholes making asks a minefield of trolling/harassment for years with no real blocking ability, which turned people off from allowing asks on their blogs so as a whole the site moved away from it

but now that we do have better blocking, we should try to revive it.
