The only reason jumblr is going after Mamdani so hard for his antisemitism is because he’s a Muslim man. I’m not denying he’s antisemitic, but so is everyone fucking else in US politics. So is basically every fuckin goy in the world. Like racism, antisemitism is built into the foundations of society and, if you grow up in a non-Jewish society, you WILL internalize fucked up shit abt Jews. Mamdani knows better. His parents and wife and surrogates know better. Medhi Hasan knows better. Them choosing not to act on it makes them bigots.
And this person insisting Jews are being racist for focusing on what the Mayor of New York is actually doing and what he believes and focuses on, before pivoting over to "Well he doesn't know better so he's going to say bigoted things and lean into bigoted tropes" is treating an adult, married man who is mayor of New York, like a middle schooler.
That is also racist bigotry. Okay so as someone who was fully no contact with his parents for a couple of years and is now in limited contact, I actually have something to say about this whole "Therapists encourage no contact" thing.
Because sure, anecdotal evidence. Data point of one. But my therapist, who I think is pretty excellent. Was SO determined to get me to try telling my parents how I was feeling. And she was CONVINCED that, if I just told them how they were hurting me, that they would come around and we could work on our relationship.
I have never seen someone more disappointed than she was on that fucking Zoom call when I read her my parent's response to my letter.
And this is, by the way. The story I have heard from all of my friends who either do not have a relationship with or have a strained relationship with their parents. Therapists are TRYING.
I think what people who do the whole "hurr durr estrangement is a trend!" thing miss is twofold.
One- that parents have been estranging themselves from their children for FUCKING forever and no one bats a fucking eye. It's not a trend. It's not a fad. It's just what you do when a child is "difficult" (or, let's be real here. When a child is gay or trans or does something a parent doesn't like).
And two- these people think the world revolves around them. So much so that, clearly, their child's estrangement is ALL about them. And about punishing them.
I didn't choose to cut my parents off to punish them. I did so- and it was one of the most difficult things I have ever done, those are my parents!- because I needed to make the best choice for my mental health. And the best choice. Was to remove myself from the presence of people who constantly made me feel awful. My estrangement was about ME.
Estrangement isn't a punishment. Estrangement is a child saying "I need to take care of and protect myself... Even if it is from my family." It is sad and difficult. And I think when people speak like this, especially people who have children who have decided to leave the family dynamic, well.
It paints a perfect picture as to WHY a child would feel the need to remove themselves from that family. It illustrates a complete lack of care for anyone but the person complaining that they are being "punished".
Does he understand that he's a mayor? Like, do you think Mamdani knows he's not King of New York City? Is he aware that he's not even a governor, let alone a federal agent?
He's fully aware of all of that. He knows he can't arrest Bibi. But what he can do is create a big media storm that helps boost Bibi and the Israeli right-wing right before the election, because Free Palestine needs the Likud Party in charge in order to be relevant and have the "moral high ground" on their side. You certainly don't see Mamdani working with Israeli liberal-left leadership.
I would bet cash fucking money that that is what he and Trump discussed when they met last year, and you can bet Bibi is in on it (just like he and Trump colluded to keep Biden's ceasefire deal from going into affect until after our election). He wouldn't come over here if he legitimately thought he could actually be arrested.

Islam is the state religion of several countries. Jews are not oppressing Muslims worldwide. The idea that Jews have more power than Muslims in Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, etc., is fucking laughable.
Christianity isn't always the oppressor, either. There are marginalized Christians who are being harmed. (In Palestine, that happens a bunch. Christians are very much the minority!)
The demographics in your country apply to your country and that's it. Stop thinking that racial issues will map onto another country half a world away with an entirely different history.
