Hi, hello, good day, greetings, my name is Nyx, she/them pronouns, queer and proud (more about me under the cut).
This is my (very chaotic) blog, I post random things usually from my current hyperfixation (usually a specific ship/character/fandom).
More About Me
I am a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community. I am still exploring my gender identity so things may change, currently I'm experimenting with she/them pronouns but again, that may change.
I am a big enjoyer of books and movies/shows, especially fantasy, sci-fi, and dystopia.
I play a bit of Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) and I have DM/GMed before, although I kinda suck at it.
I am an enjoyer of figure skating and I know a lot about it, but I know nothing about any other sport.
Generally I am a chaotic being and do random things.
Fandoms I am in (in order of interest):
Star Wars (watched main skywalker saga (aka episodes 1-9), obi-wan kenobi, mandalorian, book of boba fett, ahsoka, acolyte, rogue one, have not read any of the books or played any of the games)
Grishaverse (Shadow and Bone, Six of Crows, King of Scars)
Lord of the Rings/lotr
The Hunger Games/thg (establishing myself as an og hunger games fan before sotr inevitably makes thg mainstream)
Project Hail Mary/phm (I'm an og book fan, guys. I was here before the movie came out, I just didn't post about it)
Riordanverse/pjo, hoo, toa, kc, mcga (have not read any of the new pjo books)
RF Kuang (Poppy War, Yellowface, Babel, Katabasis)
Wednesday (Netflix show)
Keeper of the List Cities/kotlc
Pride and Prejudice
Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children/mphfpc
Harry Potter/hp
The Mortal Instruments/tmi (have not read any other shadowhunter books other than the bane chronicles)
There's probably more but I forgot and am too lazy to try and unforget
ok guys, this will be hard for some people, but we need to discuss how harmful tiktok trends can be for the environment
first of all, no, this isn't about trends like scuba and dances and shit like that. those aren't exactly harmful, though quite silly, but people can do what they want and I respect that
no, I'm talking about trends that are very actively overconsumerist, like the dumpling squishies, stanleys (although they've been replaced by owalas now), the Starbucks bear cup, etc etc
first of all, there is no need to buy every single trendy thing just because "everyone else has them". that's stupid and it's a waste of money, especially if you stop using it as soon as it stops being trendy
remember labubus? what's happened there? oh right, y'all all moved on and started yappin over other shit
same with stanleys, then owalas, then whatever the fuck people are using now
point is, this is fast fashion's evil older sibling. these trends do nothing except get people to buy useless items that end up in landfills, and because it's plastic, they stay there for thousands of years. it's actively polluting the planet and is a huge waste of money and resources
the idea that just because influencers "found" this new thing that they think is interesting doesn't mean everyone immediately has to buy it. they're influencers. that's their job
but worst of all are trends like the dumpling squishies, or labubus, where they're blind boxes and the whole point is for you to buy tons and tons of them in the hope of getting a "rare" one. the "common" ones are thrown out and clog up landfills (again), and each and every one of them is just plastic around plastic, and eventually after the trends die out, people end up with more trash
overconsumerism is a massive problem, and I haven't even started on overproduction and waste in production/retail because of such things
can we just normalize only buying things we'll actually use again and again, instead of what some people on the internet said was cool?
(I'm sure other people have said this before, but I think this needs to be said again and again until people actually get it)
it's so sad that fandoms don't get the love and appreciation they deserve until they're adapted
call me crazy but I feel like this is yet another sign of our literary crisis
when I first read phm about two years back, I went searching far and wide through the dark crevasses of the internet for memes and content. there were bare scraps
now? now there is so much phm content, all because some famous guy played the main character in a movie adaptation
don't get me wrong, I love the movie. it's beautiful and quite book accurate. but it just annoys me that some people don't bother to read the book. and some people ignore the book altogether. and that it took an adaptation for us to get content
I'd say there are multiple wars going on that are under that umbrella that don't really consist of republic-separatist battle but happen because of it during that time. The Mandalorian conflicts and the Shadow Collective and other syndicate conflicts before they reach Mandalore could all be called wars, and there are some planets like Onderon that have civil wars/revolutions grouped in where both republic and separatist sides provide very little to their onderonian allies. I think what it's most likely referring to is the scale of the wars was gargantuan in universe. It was the biggest in canon tmn, and calling a conflict that has thousands of fronts on hundreds of planets and threatens trillions of lives a single war feels inadequate. Characters do call it "the war" more often than "The Clone Wars" in the show, but after that's obviously what it's referred to by more often.
characters often refer it it as "the wra/the clone war" during the event, but after the end of the war, it's called "the clone wars" . I think they didn't fully realize the whole extent of the war during the event, or the term "the clone wars" was coined afterward as an umbrella term for all the large scale conflicts of that era/related to the republic - Separatist conflict
You ever think about how the Geonosians build and sell battle droids as private armies. And they're part of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, a government ran by war profiteering CEOs who want to let unregulated capitalism run unchecked.
So like, the rulers of Geonosian society benefit from the Confederacy because they can keep selling their battle droids and don't have to worry about any government regulations.
But also, ontop of that, the Confederacy's army is literally the droids that the Geonosians build. So they're being paid to fight for a system that will be profitable to them.
Also do you ever think about how Geonosians are a race of bug motherfuckers who are subject to a hivemind and some sort of brutal caste system. And do you remember those few episodes of the Clone Wars where the Geonosian Queen lays those eggs with the brain worms, and the brain worms are used to turn dead Geonosian workers into zombies. So like. In Geonosian culture death isn't an excuse to exit the workforce.
it really pisses me off when adults sit there and drill it into kidsā heads that their youth is fleeting and tell them things like āenjoy your childhood while it lasts because this is the best itās gonna getā. why are you telling children that adulthood is the worst thing they can experience? seriously what the fuck is wrong with you, why are you trying to make them feel like growing up is a fate worse than death? trying to convince them their life is over before it even begins? iām tired of that shit. because tell my why my 12 year old cousin told me when she turns 30 sheāll be so depressed sheās just gonna cry all the time. what the fuck. kids donāt need to hear that their already stressful and overwhelming lives are never going to get better, that the abuse and lack of autonomy they face is apparently the highlight of their lives. they need to hear about adults who are happy to be alive and happy to have made it to their age. they need to know that growing up rules, itās a gift and life does not have to suck for them, that they have a future thatās worth sticking around for. this rhetoric is so damaging mentally and iām about to start hitting the adults who parrot it. iām sorry you hate your life but you donāt get to dump your issues on these kids. donāt piss me off and leave these babies alone!
if rey skYwAlKah can do it, mr son of the force absolutely can. and better. and cooler. and just apply that logic to literally everything. on the scale of coolness, Anakin/vader beats everyone else (canon, anyway. dunno about legends), no debate.
