Last year, Henri Scars Struck wrote an original score for a film, “The Saving Of Olana, An American Treasure” (WMHT/PBS). Olana, the home of painter Frederic Edwin Church (1826-1900), was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1965 and remains one of the few intact artists’ home-studio-estate complexes in the United States, The film explores 50 years of preservation efforts by private citizens and public officials ~ including Jacqueline Kennedy and Governor Nelson Rockefeller ~ culminating in Olana becoming a New York State Historic Site. Struck's score can be heard again at an exhibition, "Church: An Artist's Pilgrimage” opening today at the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA).
