can we talk about zhu's genderfuckery. she's a girl when girl-on-girl violence is thematically relevant, and he's a dude mostly to piss ouyang off and be best bros with xu da. she's a dude because the alternative is a peasant girl, and he makes his final stand as a peasant girl because fate is funny like that. zhu's gender is a giant gleeful raspberry blown at the world, while simultaneously being a vehicle for themes of gendered violence and discrimination and toxic masculinity and girlhood. i am so normal about this duology btw
She's happy to be a woman in bed for her lesbian wife. He disguised himself as a woman by taking his clothes off to lay back and think of China in bed with a straight pirate king. He's Ouyang's fake wife. She's Ma's real husband. He's Xu Da's real brother. She stole her real brother's life. He's no-one's daughter. She's the father of Baoxiang's son and the Ming dynasty.
POV You are Ma Xiuying. you must choose
your sense of compassion and the belief that there is always a kinder option

There is still hope. Say it out loud. Palestine will be free. The Palestinian people will celebrate their culture and heritage with each other. We will love and be loved. Do not fall into the trap of despair.
I'm not saying this just for morale. I'm saying this as a reminder that the colonialist regime relies on your despair, uses it to further their propaganda. Once you lose hope, and tell everyone you lose hope, you are aiding the Zionist Entity.
Make it a point that you BELIEVE that Palestine will be free even in the face of genocide. Hope can halt genocide. Do not aid our oppressors.
This moth literally came up to her and decided to have jer eggs pratcically in her hand.
Peak cat behavior.
Remember in 2010 when Taio Cruz said "I throw my hands up in the air sometimes"? I appreciated his restraint. You can't just throw your hands up in the air whenever. There's a time and a place, and that time was 2010, and the place was the club.
if you are a fan of the poem "what resembles the grave but isn't," you might be interested to know that the poet, anne boyer, resigned her position at the new york times magazine today, and her letter is worth reading in its entirety.
"If this resignation leaves a hole in the news the size of poetry, then that is the true shape of the present. "
tragic. they found an angel stcuk tangled in the telephone wires outsside your house. sorruy. yeah we dont know how to get it out cus anyone who approached the divine light of their holy aura got obliterated. yeah we forgot their names. it'll probably get free sooner or later. dont go outside

I also like it when they're like hey what's up or something personal/natural instead of the welcome to wherever how can I serve you bit.
I also like it when they are sitting down or listening to music they clearly enjoy
There is something so nourishing about walking into a place of business and immediately thinking "huh, I wouldn't have guessed this place would be playing this kind of music" only to see an employee absolutely head-banging along because today is their day to pick the CD and they are living
Despite what capitalists might think, I do not want to roleplay being royalty in the presence of slaves when I seek professional assistance in obtaining my basic human needs.
man with excellent self restraint dismayed to realize that not wanting anything is more likely a depression symptom than a carefully honed skill that atones for other aspects of his character
I get intrigued when women look sinister

it's always such An Experience coming across posts like this on twitter bc you go to the person's profile to check out their bio and see if they're someone worth listening to or just a crank and turns out their pinned post is "here's my new book from ucpress titled HUMAN SHIELDS: A HISTORY OF PEOPLE IN THE LINE OF FIRE the first ever history of human shields in which i chronicle how the human body is weaponized to justify or resist violence in both international and domestic conflicts" and then you check out their academia dot edu publication profile and it's like oh okay you've devoted your entire academic career to literally exactly this thing. okay.
anyways here are some of his related publications:
A chilling global history of the human shield phenomenon. From Syrian civilians locked in iron cages to veterans joining peaceful indigenous
The politics of human shielding: On the resignification of space and the constitution of civilians as shields in liberal wars (2016)
Human Shields, Sovereign Power, and the Evisceration of the Civilian (2017)

People are like “these animals have exoskeletons and these ones have endoskeletons” but no. It’s all exoskeletons, your exoskeleton is protecting your bone marrow which is where your soul (which is you) is. The rest of the stuff is extraneous decoration that Big Pharma wants you to think is important/
Why do you think there’s so few ghosts around? Why are most ghosts people who died violently? You gotta crack the bones to let the soul out. Most souls are trapped alone in the dark and silent ground (or teaching hospitals) for hundreds or thousands of years until the bones eventually start to break. People who are cremated get their whole soul released and it can reincarnate. But if someone dies violently then maybe only a couple of their bones are cracked and a little scrap of the soul escapes but it’s incomplete and confused. Can’t figure out how to leave, gets obsessed with its own circumstances, repeats actions, CANNOT be reasoned with. PROOF that the soul is in the marrow.
See I know what I’m talking about.
Sin is stored in the teeth btw which is why young children are innocent (they’ll get a do-over with replacement teeth) and the elderly are shameless (once you have no teeth to remember your sins, you have nothing to fear).
Upon review I think that maybe vodka isn’t for me.
Robin Wright as Buttercup THE PRINCESS BRIDE (1987) dir. Rob Reiner
#cary elwes once said that robin wright had the harder job #bc he got to be fun and swashbuckling #but she had to ground the whole film in emotion and sincerity #and you know what? he’s RIGHT
