one of the greatest tragedies in life is that you will always be loved more than you will ever know. someone in class finds your presence inviting and warm, even if you’ve only ever exchanged a few words with them—maybe none at all. someone on the street loves your smile and it gets them down the next few streets. someone you used to be friends with still wishes to fondly call your name. someone you used to be friends with five years ago would give anything to be in the same room as you today. someone who regularly comes into work is disappointed when you aren’t there to brighten their day. someone missed you today. someone noticed you were gone. someone loves you when you’re there; someone loves you when you’re nowhere to be found at all. you think you have always disappeared when you’re no longer in the picture, but you’ve never left the frame.

i need people to understand that cop shows that have storylines that tackle issues within the policing system are still copaganda. the whole point of showcasing the issues and having the cop characters want to "be different" and "make a change" and "be a good cop" is pushing the "not all cops" message it literally is copaganda. how are we having this conversation every 4-6 years. copaganda is a portmanteau of cop and propaganda. what do you think propaganda means, actually, let's start there.

thanks for putting this into words because I was having trouble verbalizing my reactions to those posts. Yeah again, absolutely watch away with both shows, entertainment is entertainment and you can enjoy things in fiction and not enjoy those same things in real life. Some of my favorite shows are cop shows. But I also think its vitally important that we recognize, even beyond the specifics of one show or another, how copaganda is changing and shifting in order to accommodate for greater visibility of police misconduct.

They know the myth that cops are consistently the good guys is too hard a sell now, so instead they are trying to tell you that cops can be good if x, y, and/or z. I think Hondo and Athena are both examples of this new archetype in copaganda of "the good poc/woman cop that wants to fix the system" And because these shows rely on those characters ya know, continuing to be cops, they are always given a series of small personal wins or reforms while the greater system marches on as always. You can not "be a good person" your way out of being a tool for state violence and these shows are designed to make sure those characters, and the audience themselves, never figure that out.

There was a lot of conversation after George Floyd about police reforms, but not only did we fail to pass a lot of that legislation, police killings are UP and INCREASING since 2020.

I am certainly glad that these shows are doing a better job at pointing out police misconduct, I think that's a good thing, but just don't let those advancements blind you to the lies that these shows are still trying to sell you on. Watch your shows, turn your brain off even, fuck knows the world is a disaster and we all need a bit of escapism at the moment, but I think its always a net good for us to be aware of what kind of narratives are being sold to us so that we can sort out the facts from the fiction.

This sounds like a shitpost but people should be allowed to be horny. As in, sexuality is just part of life for most people and there’s no reason for consensual sexual behavior to be punished. A celebrity getting “caught” at a sex club shouldn’t be a scandal. No one should be fired for having a fetlife profile outside of work. Nudes getting leaked shouldn’t be career-ending. Denying and hiding (consensual) sexual interests doesn’t make anyone more professional, it just makes everyone more repressed. And sterilizing ourselves to be better work drones isn’t productive, it’s just creepy. I’d rather my surgeon get absolutely railed on camera and come to work in a good mood, frankly.
