Shout out to everyone else who scrolled back up after seeing the reaction meme
For all my fellow oversharers out there.
As a chronic people-pleaser, this is my advice for success.
Offer as little as possible. Be terse. Get rid of all those exclamation marks and tidbits about why you want to take a sick day. State your needs clearly and concisely without reason. Start saying “No, I’m unable.” more often. Say Thank You only when the other party deserves it.
Reblog if you are Bad Queer Representation.
i think ppl would be a lot happier and better-adjusted on here if they realized that being online on a website is like being in any other casual public space full of people. if u walk into walmart u dont immediately think to yourself “i have to be friends with everyone in this walmart and if not everyone likes me i’m a failure” and u really shouldn’t feel that way online either. likewise if there’s a guy in the walmart parking lot shouting obscenities u probably wouldn’t answer him and that’s literally an exact equivalent to some of the weird stuff that people on here seem to feel they’re obligated to respond to.

Lalafell Bastion players pulling wall to wall be like:
So this post goes on main because it's not about the game itself, but about the guy who was responsible for a lot of it.
YoshiP, the director and producer for the game Final Fantasy XIV of which I'm a huge a fan, once went on record in front of a crowd announcing that the game will slowly be unlocking gendered gear for both masculine and feminine models. That is to say, they're going back to a lot of old gear set and making it so that even if you're on a male model, you can wear "traditionally feminine" clothing like dresses etc just fine. The personal anecdote he shared along with it was because he saw a mother react repulsively towards someone wearing the supposedly wrong gendered outfit on his commute one day, pulling her child away while this person was just walking and minding their own business, and that greatly saddened him. So even though he only worked on a game, he wanted to give players and potential players somewhere they could express themselves freely.
This was a pretty incredibly rare move for an MMORPG, never mind one that constantly came out with new gear sets multiple times per expansion. Game devs were going back to old equipment models and redoing them for both model genders, and we'd had consistent updates on hairstyles, clothes, all kinds of things since then.
I'm not here to say that Naoki Yoshida is a perfect person who always deserves everyone's support. I can think of at least one instance where I wish he would do better, lmao. But he's been incredibly professional with his product and also understands that it's a collaborative work of art and game, and he's always been very kind towards the people who play his game and who his product immediately affects, as well. He also went on record directly telling harassment on the English voice actor for a major character in the new expansion, who IRL is a trans woman, to stop. She posted that at a later FanFest, he met up with her to ask how she was doing and hung out with her specifically, afterwards.
I dunno. The recent FanFest reminded me of this. He brought out a senior member of the battle design system to introduce some earth-shaking changes to said battle system and other parts of FFXIV, and spent a lot of time introducing him and showing the team's strong support for the guy. Players are most cynical and abusive when it comes to system changes in MMOs, and considering how YoshiP had been in the past, his kindness and support for the guy felt incredibly purposeful and yet still very sincere.
I would play FFXIV on its own merits, because it was truly an incredible game and story that had very literally reshaped the worst parts of my life when I needed it the most, but it's very nice to know that it's made by someone who's kind to the trans/queer community and continues to show his support by designing his game to accommodate people's self expression, while still keeping the quality top notch.
Some recent character studies/doodles...I haven't drawn them in a long time, and I missed them
I often see some really fun speculation about Zenos and Varis and the Galvus family and why their relationship became as shit as we see it in canon, but most of the time I think something people miss is that Varis was around 20ish when Zenos was born and he was a career soldier. We are told Varis was a brilliant strategist and from what we see in game he must have been a hella fine fighter when he was more active, but he was also very much defined by being a member of the Garlean military (contrasted with his uncle Titus who has always been framed as more of a pure politician).
We don't know what rank he was at any given time in his life, but considering how dismissive Solus was of him in general (probably as a result of comparing Varis to his late father Lucius, who was Solus' favorite son) and that the other Legati all seem to be on the older side (Gaius and Valens are both 56, Quintus, Vergilia and Basch should be in the same age range based on context clues and while the Nael we meet in game is younger at 38, she is explicitly pretending to be her older brother who was the actual Legatus — Zenos at 26 is an extreme outlier) I think it's reasonable to say that for many of Zenos' formative years Varis was probably trapped somewhere on the military ladder, even if he started at a higher initial rank due to being a member of the royal family.
So I think the root of the distant, cold relationship between Varis and Zenos is pretty clear: Varis was not there for Zenos growing up at all, because he was busy following his Legatus around, trying to impress his way into a promotion. His was likely an arranged marriage to begin with and producing an heir more an expectation than something he personally wanted, but even if he wanted to step up and be a good father to Zenos after his wife died... I'm not sure he had much of an opportunity to do so, honestly. Not without giving up his military and political ambitions and completely conceding any power and influence he had in the royal family. Definitely not when he was still at best a Tribunus, but probably not even when he was a proper Legatus (anybody remember how pissed Varis was when Gaius ignored the order to come the fuck home and help stabilize the empire and ran off to conquer Eorzea because that's what Solus would have wanted instead?). A Legatus holds responsibility for their legion, appears to be always stationed with their legion rather than commanding them remotely and they follow the orders of the emperor. We know that Varis had been stationed in some pretty remote places (Nangxia and Corvos were mentioned directly and it makes perfect sense that Solus would want to send Varis as far away as he could, if only so he wasn't around to remind Solus how much more inferior he was compared to Lucius) and I somehow can't imagine him having much of a direct influence on how Zenos was brought up from a continent away.
There was the incident with the Corvosi sword tutor abusing Zenos, but I honestly can't imagine Varis deliberately installing a tutor who he expected to endanger his son's life. He only had the one heir, losing Zenos would have been a big blow to his ambitions to the throne, so that entire incident was likely one giant oversight that came to bite him in the ass in short order.
The way I imagine that whole scenario went was something like... okay, imagine you have a son somewhere back in the homeland you only see a handful of times a year and otherwise only know about from the reports of the servants and his tutors. He's a really smart kid, but something of a problem child, completely unable to connect with his peers at all, so you likely stopped forcing him to interact with other kids of his age group/class because having your kid creep out (or possibly even hurt) the kids of your political allies is a very fast way to lose those political allies. His studies are progressing well, all things considered, but he also keeps going through tutors at an alarming rate (understandable for a neglected child, but that's probably not what Varis thought of when he received note of the nth tutor resigning in the span of as many months) and the acceptable pool of tutors is not infinite so you very much want him to stop. So, you send a warning: if Zenos keeps scaring off the regular tutors, he will get one he won't enjoy tormenting. Dangle some reward in front of the Corvosi swordsman so he has reason to take his tutoring role seriously, knowing full well that his resentment will seep through no matter what and make his teaching harsh and likely unpleasant, then wait for Zenos to regret this change in tutors. After Zenos was sufficiently cowed by the bad tutor, dismiss the Corvosi, rehire a regular one and hope that Zenos has learned his lesson, he should be smart enough for that.
Not a complicated plan, but it backfired spectacularly because Varis doesn't know Zenos on a personal level whatsoever. At the time of the incident Zenos was 14 and Varis still only showed up briefly and it's implied that he left almost immediately afterwards, so the most likely explanation is that he was in Garlemald to report in or accept new orders before he traveled back to his Legion stationed fuck-knows-where. Assuming he started spending more time in Garlemald after he became Legatus Augustus (being the High Legatus in command of the entire Garlean Military), he must have been in his late 30s at that point and Zenos was old enough that he left for whatever military training or academy they sent terrifying young men from a noble background to be bullied into being useful soldiers of the Garlean military, so their interactions would still have been minimal.
Most of their direct interactions likely happened when Zenos was already an adult, between a general and his superior commander, then between a prince and his emperor. They are only family by blood, completely passing each other by in life and they only know of each other whatever they have gathered second hand or projected onto the other and I think that's both fascinating and deeply tragic.
"A friend is someone you trust" and then having WoL flashback to Zenos unconscious/dead at the end of the world was sooooooo cruel from the devs still
But also, it makes me think of it two ways
Is it WoL thinking of Zenos as a friend, or is it WoL thinking of Zenos believing that phrase
Both are sad
Cause what do you mean WoL doesn't think of the many people they've met on their journey instead? Not a Scion, not an Eorzean Alliance leader, none of these??? But the one guy everyone wanted gone??
And then on the other hand, figuring out that Zenos chose to trust you. Not his father, or an Ascian, or anyone else. But you! He trusted you'd prevail in the fight and possibly also fulfil his wish again, and that you'd want to make it back home :)
[lawyer voice] mothers and fuckers of the jury-
DO YOU KNOW HOW OFTEN I THINK ABOUT THIS POST??? IM IN LAW SCHOOL THIS POST IS GOING TO RUIN MY LIFE
reblog to ruin a law student’s life
oh hello you’ve returned to us
Hi. I’m a trial attorney now and every last one of you is a motherfucker.
Having a traumatic childhood means you cannot talk even objectively about your basic foundational experiences without it being "venting", even if you're not actually venting. You just straight up have a huge chunk of your life you can't talk about, full stop, without it being trauma dumping.
And it not being socially acceptable to talk about your own childhood is super alienating. Sometimes people want to know why, and any answer you can give them is going to be off putting.
It's to the point I get irritated when something I said is framed as venting when I'm literally just talking about my life experiences, doing my best to keep emotion out of it.
when I was in high school, I overheard two older students talking about a friend of theirs.
One of them said something like, "it doesn't bother me that [Friend] was in residential mental health treatment, I just wish they wouldn't talk about it ALL the time".
The other replied, "Well, that was all of last year for them. So when they say 'when I was in treatment,' it's like when you say 'last year'."
I try to remember that any time someone says something that sounds Shocking to me. sometimes one person's scary special crisis is another person's last year.
If you want to be accepting of mental illness, you need to accept the fact that some people's everyday lives are going to be terrifying to you. That doesn't mean they don't get to talk about it. Stop forcing hurt, isolated people to become even MORE hurt and isolated because you can't fathom toughening up a bit.
ur clothes size doesnt say anything. like it doesnt say anything abt u as a person but it also especially doesnt say anything about what size your clothes are
practicing self care less out of self love and more for the sheer logical reasoning of it’d be kinda stupid of me to expect myself to be able to function without proper maintenance
“oh i don’t deserve rest and relaxation, i haven’t done enough, i haven’t earned it” and my car’s breaks don’t deserve break fluid because they aren’t breaking well enough to earn it. that’s what you sound like!!!!!
just thought y’all should know this post has gotten so much traction that my own roommate has referenced it and i never even, like, sent it to her, and she’s not even active on tumblr.
Nobody ever talks about body masculinization surgery I mean ok top surgery is great but body masculinization surgery is genuinely super baller and nobody talks about it. The results are great also. It gets talked about less than phalloplasty and that’s already a lot to say
Shit ton of people in the notes screaming about not even knowing this was an option. Which is crazy to me
Transmasculine procedures that you might not know are an option:
Facial Masculinization (FMS) . Which includes:
Tracheal Augmentation: Creating an Adam's Apple.
Rhinoplasty: AKA a "nose-job" , while many people get these to make there nose smaller, transmasc people can also get them to make ther bridge and the overall structure larger, wider, and more prominent.
Brow Bone Augmentation & Hairline Repositioning (this usually involves adding an implant)
Jaw and Chin Augmentation (this usually involves adding an implant)
Buccal Fat Removal: Removes fat from the cheeks, to make the face less round.
Dermal Fillers: Temporarily builds volume in the chin, cheeks, or jawline without major surgery.
Beard implant: Moves hair follicles from a donor area (usually the back of the scalp or under the chin) onto the face to create a thicker or fuller beard
Vocal masculinization. Which includes:
Type III thyroplasty: lowers the pitch of someone's voice by relaxing the vocal chords.
Injection laryngoplasty: adding volume to the vocal folds using derma fillers or autologous fat. Derma fillers are temporary and fat grafting is significantly more long lasting.
Direct vocal fold testosterone injections: Exactly what it says in the tin, they inject testerone directly into your vocal chords and it lowers the pitch. This is a new procedure and we're unsure if it's temporary or permanent.
Body Masculinization. Which includes:
Body Sculpting Liposuction: Removes fat from the hips, flanks, thighs, and lower back to straighten the waistline and square the torso.
Top Surgery or chest masculization. Which includes:
Double Incision mastectomy: This is the one most people know. Two long horizontal cuts across the chest; used for medium to large chests or extra skin; nipples are typically resized and grafted back on. You can leave the nipples off if you want. There is a small chance of loosing nipple sensation.
Inverted-T (Anchor): Uses a horizontal cut plus a vertical drop down to the nipple; keeps the nipple attached to its blood supply/nerves; good for larger chests wanting to save nipple sensation.
Buttonhole: Similar to the inverted-T but without a major vertical skin removal; keeps the nipple attached on a stalk to preserve sensation.
Peri-Areolar (Circumareolar): A circular cut around the outer edge of the areola to remove tissue and extra skin rings; best for small chests with good skin snap-back.
Keyhole: A tiny cut along the bottom edge of the areola; used for very small chests (A-cup or small B-cup) with no loose skin; leaves minimal scarring.
Bottom Surgery or FTM/FTX SRS:
Phalloplasty: Builds a full-sized penis using a skin and tissue graft from the forearm or thigh, done in multiple stages and often including urethral lengthening and erectile implants (see more on erectile implants in the next section). The natal neo phallus is typically buried at the root of the phalloplasty shaft. There is unfortunately a lot of fear mongering and misinformation about Phalloplasty. Most Phalloplasty images you see shared are either mid stage (not completed) and/or haven't healed yet.
Glansplasty: This surgical procedure creates the look of a circumcised penis. A crown is added after phalloplasty for a more aesthetically typical phallus.
Glans Implant: silicone ridge added to Glansplasty to prevent flattening. To my knowledge currently only Dr. Curtis Cane performs this.
Metoidioplasty: AKA "Meta". Uses the natal neo phallus growth that develops from being on testosterone therapy to create a small (2-3 inches typically) penis, preserving full sensation, the ability to have erection without an implant or external device, and has a shorter recovery time.
Scrotoplasty: Shapes labial tissue into a scrotum and places silicone testicular implants. Avaliable with both phalloplasty and metodioplastly.
Urethroplasty: lengthen and reroute the urethra, which allows you to stand and pee. Possible with Phalloplasty, metodioplastly, and non phallus constructive vaginectomy.
Vaginectomy: Removal of the vaginal canal and labia and the the vaginal opening is sutured shut. This is not required to have Phalloplasty or metodioplastly. It is also possible to get a vaginectomy without constructing a phallus, resulting in a smooth transition from the abdomen to the groin, without any genitals. A hysterectomy is required to get a vaginectomy.
Erectile Implants for Phalloplasty. Which include:
Inflatable Implants: Fluid-filled systems (available in 2-piece or 3-piece configurations) that use a scrotal pump to inflate cylinders for an erection and a release valve to return to a flaccid state.
Malleable Implants: Aka "semi-rigid rods". Bendable silicone or wire rods laced inside the phallus that can be manually moved up for use and down for concealment.
The ZSI-475 FTM: This is the only implant designed specifically with transgender men in mind. It is an inflatable implant and has a single piece configuration. It provides an incorporated anchorage plate, in the proximal part of the cylinder, composed of stainless steel and silicone to be sealed with four non-absorbable stitches to the pubic periosteum. The pump is testicle-shaped to improve aesthetical appearance of the scrotum. It is a relatively new implant and less data on it is avaliable in comparison to other erectile implants.
Non Surgical Erectile Devices for trans men post bottom surgery:
The Elator: Consists of two silicone or expandable bands connected by plastic-coated rigid or flexible metal support rods, which hold the phalloplasty in an erect position.
Erectile Sleeves: Hollow silicone or cyber-skin shafts worn over the phallus to add girth and relative firmness. There are ones made for phalloplasty and ones made for metodioplastly. Metodioplasties are able to become erect on their own since they are made from the natal neo phallus (bottom growth), but typically they don't have enough length to penatrate, so their are ribbed suction erectile sleeves that fit over the post-metodioplastly phallus to give additional length.
