I'd imagine Rowling "debates" like Charlie Kirk used to "debate," which was more of a "you throw all your arguments at me and try to convince me, I'll reject them and call that a victory."
You're not arguing about the issue with people like this, you're arguing about their opinion on the issue, a topic on which they are the authority and control utterly. They're just pretending that the debate is about the actual topic, so they can bait-and-switch your failure to change their mind and cast it as your position on the issue being wrong.
They present it as a fair fight but that's a lie. It's like two wrestlers or boxers or chess players going at it but one of them's quietly finagled the situation so that they're also the referee.
