Despite being cool.and upbeat (and she is) she also suffers from anxiety and recently started speaking about it in social media. Instagram posta detailing her inability to even go downstairs and how support her fam are etc. She also recently did a bbc documentary about anxiety disorders.

Nadiya is also a perfect example of why diversity in media is important. A government report on community cohesion said she’s done “more for British-Muslim relations than 10 years of government policy”, because her presence on TV has helped to humanize the image of the hijab-wearing Muslim woman in the eyes of the public. She’s not even really a political activist or anything - she’s just a nice, honest, down-to-earth person. Sometimes that’s all it really takes to convince people.

Yesterday, 2015-10-22, a masked man with a sword and a knife stabbed a teacher and a student to death, before he was shot by police in Trollhattan, Sweden. Two innocent lives. Bodies whose only sin was a darker pigment. Dreams extinguished. Families in mourning. And a  country in fear.#Trollhattan

I can’t believe I hadn’t heard about this till now:

Lavin Eskandar, 20, shouted at children to run before he tried to take down Anton Lundin-Petterson, 21, who had previously posed with kids dressed as Stars Wars character Darth Vader.

The killer allegedly shouted ‘I am your father’ as he went on to stab two 15-year-old students at the Trollhattan school.

Eskandar was a teaching assistant from the Feyli Kurdish community, many of whom have sought refugee status in Europe. And yes, the attack was racially motivated:

The Swedish school murderer who killed a teacher and pupil with a sword during a brutal attack on Thursday, left a suicide note where he wrote that he ‘had to do something about immigration’.

Police have said the letter written by Anton Lundin-Petterson, is additional proof that the attack on the school in Trollhattan, near Gothenburg, was a racist hate crime.

As the 21-year-old assailant moved through the school on his bloody rampage which left two dead and two seriously injured, he picked out his victims based on skin colour.
