If you get into white work embroidery, you might discover cutwork. And when you start doing cutwork, you might get curious about incorporating detached elements. And before you know it the fabric is gone, you are making needle lace, and there goes the rest of your week.
Buttonhole stitch - not even once.
theacademyismusic: Every band has that guy.
For us⊠itâs Mike Carden.
Weâre getting ready for Riot Fest (where this photo is from), and before weâve even made it through the first song heâs already in full Music Director mode.
âCan we tighten that transition?â
âOne more time.â
âi think weâre all dragging a little.â
At one point I purposely rushed a section just to see if heâd catch it.
He did.
Instantly.
Didnât even look up.
Just goes, âAgain.â
Meanwhile Billâs walking around trying not to spill his tea, Butcherâs dancing for no reason, Ianâs wondering what day it isâŠ
âŠand Mikeâs already thinking about load-out.
Truthfully, weâd probably be a complete disaster without him.
Just donât tell him I said that.

a little bit obsessed with him I fear </3
The one thing about gender is that frankly my ideal gender situation has very little to do with me and infinitely more to do with everyone else on the earth who cannot be fuuuuuuuuucking cool about anything ever

Itâs 2018 and I still have no clue how CDs work. Itâs a shiny disc, how do they get data on that, let alone that much?? Magic
Like a vinyl disc, where a physical groove is marked into the vinyl, a laser marks the ink of a CD in a similar manner. A laser (your disc drive) can then look at the pattern in the ink and understand it.
Thereâs no grooves on a CD tho???
Theyâre just really tiny, hence the laser. The smaller grooves means that more info can fit on a disc of the same size.
Man how the fuck did they figure out how to make that
well they looked at a record and said âHow do we fit more information on this?â to which the reply is âWell either you make the record bigger or the grooves smallerâ and making the grooves smaller is way more convenient so they say âWell how do we make the grooves smaller?â and thatâs when a total madman comes out with eyes flashing and yells âWITH A LASER!â
And thatâs how the CD was invented
how did they figure out how to fit information in grooves in a piece of vinyl in the first place????
probably got some ideas outta this
Fucking mad lads
#the really wild fact is that even purely digital forms of storing information are basically just âcount the bumpâ technology really

If you enjoyed this book you should read every other book in the world for extra textual context. All things are intricately related to one another.

I had a dream last night that the Decemberists guy put out a new song that was him announcing the band was breaking up, but the song was also his like detailing his future career path, and it was an excruciatingly granular 13.5 minutes of him explaining to us in detail that he was going to become a world renowned marionette maker and like the steps he was going to take to complete this (step 1 was learn to spin flax to make his own cord, step 2 was learn whittling to create his own puppets, step 3 to make his own paints, etc etc. He was going for that vertical slice sort of thing) All the while someone was shouting in the background I DON'T WANNA BREAK UP and WHO'S GOING TO GET MY ACCORDION because apparently there was a custody battle happening for that?? But as it turned out the song was too much of a banger and people wouldn't let them quit and also he had like horrible arthritis in his hands that was preventing him from making the shit so they announced within the week that the band was actually back together and The Marionette Maker's Heart's Desire was like their new #1 hit
âour age of bronze is collapsingâ is this beautiful random burst of monty python dialogue amidst the drudgery of nolanâs vision and i think it should win the first-ever oscar for best solitary line
