I don’t know if anyone has seen this or is interested (maybe I’m just the last to know!), but a contemporary needle lace artist is asking for help creating motifs for a huge piece of needle lace she’s creating. Here’s the first video tutorial and her post about it on her website:

In case anyone wants a beginner’s project and doesn’t know what to do with the result. If it gets to her by March, your leaf can be part of a huge art piece! It’s pretty rare not just for a huge needle lace project to be made, but for it to go on public view (the few that are now are usually sold to private collectors).

I really think this is a great idea to help people take the plunge if they’re interested (as well as the lace rotalong!) and I think doing an aemilia ars leaf is a good starting place.

Also, I implore you: do NOT forget to lock the cordonnet. I have had to fix that before and it’s not fun! I did not enjoy the process!

If you get into white work embroidery, you might discover cutwork. And when you start doing cutwork, you might get curious about incorporating detached elements. And before you know it the fabric is gone, you are making needle lace, and there goes the rest of your week.
