So, we all know the whole prophecy thing, how Bill thought it would rip apart time and space blah blah blah
Remember what Fiddleford said? “When Gravity Falls and earth become sky, fear the beast with just one eye.”
It’s Bill, right? He’s the only person/thing/demon with a SINGLE eye (unless you count the eye-bats) but there’s something that I think a lot of people overlooked.
We’ve seen Stanley’s ugly mug a LOT, so naturally little details kind of fade into the background. But one of his key accessories...his eye patch! Remember when they were all standing in the circle of the Prophecy, and Stanley was being a 100% dick and wouldn’t do it because his brother never thanked him for risking life and limb to get his brother back. It was a good move for Ford to have said “thank you”...and then he immediately messed the whole thing up by putting GRAMMAR before saving the entire universe. I’m guessing this comes from centuries and millenia of not having seen another human.
So, Bill shows up, the whole prophecy thing is ruined (which may honestly be a good thing) but what’s really funny to me, is that Bill never even imagined the thought that the prophecy was anything NOT having to do with worshipping him. Considering he comes from another dimension, it’s probably really difficult for him to...de-cipher...the images on the 3D walls. But, if we know one thing about Bill, it’s that he’s all about himself. So NATURALLY if he stumbled into a cave with his likeness drawn everywhere, he would see it as an alter of worship, right? Only he was completely wrong, working on a false premise. Bill essentially led himself to his own demise...by two kids, no less!
Basically, Stanford is a human who has lived in a reality of madness for god knows how long. Stanley was a broke, lost young man who essentially used his conning abilities to secure an entire career for himself. In a way, he is much like Bill. They both use the attention of others, they both lie for personal gain, and they both have one “eye”. Stanley, in my mind, is essentially Bill’s conscience. He may have done some shitty stuff, but he could have done a lot worse, and at least he cleaned up his act in the end.
At this point, these are just ramblings, but I would like to mention that I think I saw some Studio Ghibli references and if so, I’m very happy about that!The animation for the whole finale was awesome, but part 3 took the cake. I can see why they ended it the way they did (I KNOW there’s an alternate ending that just never made it into the works) I’m so glad that Alex was able to conclude things in HIS way. Too many producers bend to the smell of money to keep a show on the air...iiiiif it means changing a few things. I knew Alex wouldn’t take that.
Gravity Falls is the first show I’ve watched in a long time that doesn’t feel so much a show, as an old friend that you catch up with every once in a while. There’s a near-perfect balance of happy and sad, angry and loving, drama and relaxation...Alex based the show off of his own life experiences, and honestly, that is what puts so much love into this. Gravity Falls isn’t just a show; it’s an artistic extension of a young man who I know will go on to be greater than any of us could imagine.
