It’s also funny to think about Guy coming to Downton the second time, but now he knows everybody’s dirty laundry. The Pamuk thing. Bates jail saga. Come to think of it, he might even know about Harold’s involvement in the Teapot Dome scandal lol

This is amazing... I imagine he's exploring the house the same way he does in the second movie, but this time when Thomas catches him doing it, he's like "I was just imagining having to drag a body through this corridor"

And of course he wants to see the ultimate tourism attraction... "where is the shed you stuck that poor dog in"

Especially love his brief exchange with people when he’s upstairs, and his little surprised expression when Noël cheers for Lady Mary. These moments are so precious and beautiful <3

Hiii! Just wanted to pop and say how much I enjoyed your Dexmas fic so far. I ADORE the format, it's very creative and the way you executed it is 🤌✨ I mean, it almost made me cry at the forewords from Nicholas and Elizabeth 🫣 The fact the fic is all in retrospect and they're both gone already really pulls at the heartstrings, but in a nice way. I am trying to get the new chapter up today 🤞 and since I’ve seen the new film already and parts of all the following chapters are already written, it should all be a bit quicker than it has been between the last chapter and the one I’m working on now.

I hate that the one thing I was most looking forward to in Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale left such a bad taste in my mouth that it may have spoiled a movie I otherwise loved.

I was prepared for Molesley to make a fool of himself, because the movies have always prioritized comic relief over character for him, but it usually comes from a place of harmless over-excitement.

But his delusions of grandeur here are coming at the expense of Baxter’s feelings of self-worth - the whole “I’M a servant” “well I told you you didn’t have to be anymore” bit made me so uncomfortable, and the movie doesn’t have time for him to offer anything more than “I’ll try to be more grateful for what I have” as an apology or statement of his love and respect for her.

Heaven forbid we had cut the gag about him being a terrible driver, we could have had that amount of screentime to devote to something that felt like an appropriate resolution.

Anyway, I welcome any takes on this that will make me feel better about it. Maybe I’m overreacting. I still loved the movie for the great stuff we got with Isobel and Edith (and Bertie!).

Nope I‘m with you 100%. I actually was so disappointed and angry that after all that time that Baxter finally got what she wanted with the proposal in DA2 and now she genuinely seemed unhappy and annoyed while everyone else had their happy marriage (apart from Mary ofc). And when you see everyone’s happy ending in the credits she gets a measly “I’ll try”.

Random post-DA3 thought

For weeks, I was SO curious about the whole how and what surrounding the scene where Guy fixes Thomas' tie...

...and having seen the movie, I kinda love that there is absolutely nothing to really say about that short scene.

It's simply a random shot in a montage of random shots of a really lovely day.

A glimpse into their life together. Thomas takes care of Guy and Guy takes care of Thomas.

Just like our Thomas deserves.
