i think abt the part in the golden compass where it was noted that if your daemon chose to assume the form of a fish or some kind of ocean dwelling creature you could never leave the water again. at best you could dock, maybe walk a bit away from the shore, but that's it. chained to the water because your physical soul form commands it.
is love devotion? is love attachment? is love being bonded so firmly to something that it consumes you? when your daemon chooses it's final form do you weep with joy or fear?
can i kiss you? with tongue.

I saw a super cute photo of a guy with a cat and I had to paint it in my own way. It let me practice some rendering techniques I haven't tried before :)

I'm thinking about His Dark Materials again. Specifically the societal quirks that Lyra's world has as a result of everyone having their soul manifested outside their body in the form of dæmons. It's one of the most fascinating examples of worldbuilding I've come across tbh
Some of my most favourite tidbits:
Dæmons are named by the dæmons of the child's parents
It's taboo to touch another person's dæmon, but this is learnt, not instinctual
Children often settle arguments through their dæmons, with one accepting the dominance of the other (eg. Pan hissing at Annie's fox daemon in the first book to get her to back down)
The fact that people can tell when someone lacks a daemon even though they can be hidden out of sight (like a mouse in your pocket)
To the inhabitants of Lyra's world, looking at someone without a dæmon is like looking at someone without a head
These extra pieces of lore just make the world seem so magical but believable at the same time
they really struck diamonds with the concept of daemons in his dark materials. imagine if your soul was a little shapeshifting creature you can hang out with and talk to? AND it's also a symbolic representation of your true nature? say no more. i will spend the rest of my life thinking about this.
Do you ever just love your dæmon(s) so much it hurts??? Like I would give anything for them to be corporeal but I’ll settle for aggressively projecting them and being impossibly content

Are you single or multidae?
Curiosity and the 'why not' got to me. Do you, as an individual, have one or more daemons.

I’ve been re-listening to the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman at work recently. They are some of my absolute favorite books and I love the concept of the Daemons (animal companions that every human has and basically they are physical representations of peoples souls. They settle into a particular form that is indicative of the individuals personality) I think my Daemon would definitely be a Kayan Loris. And his name would be Jasper.
the thing w hdm as an adaptation is that they change things up but they change things in ways that shows the audience the same things that we learn in the books just thru a different medium and that’s why it’s so effective and enjoyable
