These pescatarian birds are directly exposed to PFAS contamination due to the island's position near the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Over fifty years of data show a peak in PFAS (also known as "forever chemicals") content in seabird eggs in the 90s, followed by a decrease as regulations went into effect. The most recent findings show a 70% decrease of most common PFAS.
While continued vigilance a regulation is needed, this data indicates that regulations are working to reduce PFAS concentrations in marine ecosystems.
Yes!!!! I did a review of literature on PFASs in human drinking water about half a year ago, and there is a lot of really good progress! Please celebrate this, please don't let this solution be forgotten (at least so quickly) as the ozone layer or acid rain.
We are making genuine progress! Producers are dramatically altering how much they use PFAS and how much gets released in effluent, but also there's a lot better understanding of how to remove PFAS from the environment!
Environmental problems CAN BE SOLVED.
i can't believe bungie pulled it off. they made destiny 2 good right at the end.
You don't need AI to give you free therapy you need friends you can tell things your parent said to you and then see their horrified reaction that confirms that you were not crazy and that that was fucked up
my buddy brings her angel girlfriend to the function, I spend the whole time refusing to look at or even acknowledge her existence, because I am a staunch atheist and dont believe in that nonsense. she starts to throw things at my head to get my attention and between volleys of marbles and kitchen utensils I grunt "swamp gas. aurora borealis. probably a weather balloon.youre seeing things"
another day, I greet my friend at the door, I look over her shoulder and raise an eyebrow, "I see you've brought the electromagnetic phenomena again,"
i hate forced/hidden/opt-out software updates. computer is a machine, a device, it should not do anything without me telling it to.

one of the funniest conversations I ever had with my ex was when they were still getting used to Celsius and asked me "what's 20 degrees?" and instead of converting it, I said "it's the highest your dad will ever let you set the thermostat and when you say you're cold he tells you to put on another sweater, we're not made of money" and they went "oh, 68"
the fact that this reference was that fucking precise was something they went on to tell people about for years.
They really gave tracer a bbl in fortnite
They keep doing this she's gonna start showing up in porn
Well now lets not be ridiculous who would wanna jerk off to tracer
why do humans have a built in "let me bother this animal" switch and why is it so funnnnn. like yes hmmm ☝️ i think i Will poke this cat
to be fair so do a bunch of other animals. for example
We think of humour as a distinctly human emotion, but some animals may also use it to strengthen their bonds.
bothering that animal is a beautiful kind of playing and having fun
you dont see a lot of chickens you can pat like a doggy
There’s so many things that feel inherent to the human condition that aren’t actually and just feel that way because of the societies we live in which is kinda crazy tbh.
People used to just throw banana peels on the ground for real. It was a real problem in society.
That cartoon trope is like cultural memory from a time when people just threw their trash on the ground and didn’t even think about it. Littering has become a lot less socially acceptable in the last seventy years or so.
And it’s like we assume that humans inherently like living in a clean environment or whatever but like. No. The banana peels.
There’s things that we think we could never adapt to or put up with that to a lot of people are just a part of everyday life.
Reusable takeout containers that you return to the restaurant for example. Very common in some parts of Asia. Unthinkable concept in the states.
Just a few years ago reusable grocery bags seemed like a huge annoyance but now I use them without thought.
Or even like how every fuckass nowhere town in the US used to have access to a railroad and now the idea of using passenger rail for a lot of people is ridiculous because even some major regional hubs don’t have trains.
People used to wear corsets for gods sake and now that’s a super niche thing to do on a daily basis. Even my grandmother wore corsets in the 1950s.
Like a huge part of how society works can change in like three years while everyone barely notices. It’s crazy.
You should be immediately suspicious of anyone who tries to convince you to hate other trans people.
