Quick note to get it out of way at the top: Follows and likes come from my dead main blog: @hellaqueerspnblog-a. I am too lazy to make a new account to have a fresh main blog. It didn't matter until people started following this blog. Oops. Alas, the consequences of my actions.

About me: I am a 30 year old nonbinary person (they/them preferred, she/her accepted, or whatever is funniest for the bit) who is very gay, super neurodivergent, and perpetually exhausted. I am just trying to figure out my life while the world burns around us. Currently, I am a paramedic working in an ER, but I'm going to back to school. Maybe. I truly have no idea what I am doing here or in real life.

and credit where credit is due. they changed course basically as soon as they could. a day is a very quick turnaround for development and reversing what waa clearly intended as a massive change. they deserve credit for recognizing the mistake and fixing it. thank you tumblr for not doing something obviously stupid

i'd rather not watch tumblr carefully position its dick between the body of a car and the open door, then forcefully slam it shut, but after they've done it once, i'll still congratulate them for removing it and walking away, instead of doing it again several more times

The way they phrased the post announcing the reversal sounds like they plan to make changes again — just different ones — and that makes me nervous. Reblogs work just fine. We don’t need different reblogs.

There are plenty of things that would great to change. I would love to be able to change what my main account is. I would love to see reblogs instead of replies incentivized for art and fics to give them greater reach. I would for the old blue to come back.

This isn’t what needs to change. Reblogs are the backbone of this app. They work well. They are not what need updating.

I hope every single person who puts nice comments in tags under reblogged art knows that you you guys are the backbone of society. Being an artist online sucks these days, but here on tumblr I still get compliments under artworks that I made years ago. I hope you know every WOW and heart emoji and heartfelt compliment and funny comment you left in the tags is part of the reason I kept drawing all these years, in spite of everything that was going on.

I've been screenshotting the nice tags I get for years, and at this point it would be literal thousands of lines if I still had my old files. I love u tumblr users <333333333

Reblogs in a chain now get their own notes

The reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else. All the notes on reblogs are attributed to the original post, no matter which branch people actually liked or reblogged. We want to keep encouraging conversations, and give contributors the recognition they deserve. 

Soon, you'll be able to like, reblog, or reply to any part of a reblog chain, and that note will go to that reblog's author. Each reblog will have its own counts, instead of one aggregated number from every version of the post. And yes, you’ll be able to like multiple posts in one chain.

If a reblog doesn't add anything, the love flows up to the last person in the chain who did. Your post doesn't lose notes just because people spread it quietly.

Past notes will stay on the original post — we're only changing what happens from here on out. Retroactively re-attributing all of them would be... a lot.

This is just the beginning. More changes are coming as we keep building this out – stay tuned!

Let's talk about reblog notes.

We rolled out a significant change to how notes work on reblogs, and the reaction has been strong. We're not going to pretend otherwise. 

First things first: We're reversing the change. Your feedback in comments, emails, and especially reblogs, made clear that the rollout created problems we need to address before moving forward. We also should have communicated this differently from the start, and we didn't.

We still believe there's a better version of how reblogs can work. One that gives every voice in a chain the credit it deserves. But we want to get there with you.

In the coming days we'll share more on how we plan to do that,  including ways to work directly with some of you on this and future changes before they ship.

Keep an eye on @staff for updates to come soon.

I posted my first fic on AO3 (Alive Then). You can find me at CaffeinatedAndChaotic. I'll be posting the rest of them over the next few days. It'll take me a bit because everything is getting a quick polish, and there are some fics I went ahead and posted even though I didn't love bits and pieces. But yeah, fuck this update. I'll be cross posting now because I hate it.

Well guys

We may have finally reached a point where I will be migrating my fics to AO3. I've been more than mildly terrified to do so (for no discernible reason other than that's where I perceive serious and far better authors to post their work, which I do not perceive myself as being....while I'm actively trying to write a novel???? I know it doesn't make sense).

This new update pisses me off, and I already struggle to get engagement. If I can't even see what my engagement actually looks like anymore, I see little point in posting my fics here (or at least here exclusively).

I'll likely give anything I move a quick polish before it goes up over there, so if you decide to go read them on ao3, and it doesn't match what you know from here, that's why.

We'll see. Maybe that's what I'll do before I head to bed.

I cannot begin to articulate how astronomically bad this is. I may not post fics very often, but I still like to see the reach they have when I do post them. The thought of having to chase down what the engagement is like when I do post them...I hate it. I hate it so much.

And though I get little traffic on my little blog, I do still get some, and I would hate to ever take any notes from another author or an artist. This sucks. This sucks so fucking much.

Of note: It was not hard to reblog from any given point in a thread before. It was supremely simple to do so. You just went to the point you wanted reblog from, select that post, and fucking reblog it. It's just not challenging.

Also, how bad does a response have to be to restrict the replies on your post? Good gods.
