Last year, I befriended a Catholic seminarian. We've gotten to be pretty decent friends. Seeing as he was staying in town for the summer and I wasn't, I entrusted him with caring for my plant.

He did a wonderful job, but as he was returning my plant to my custody, he explained "I watered her every other day, I gave her new dirt, moved her into the sunshine, prayed the rosary-"

"What?"

He looked at me, confused. "Isn't she a plant you pray with?"

"No," I said slowly. "She's a prayer plant. That's the... colloquial name of the plant."

Upon seeing his stricken face, I realized something went wrong. Turns out, this entire time, he's been including my plant in on his prayers and leaving her near icons.

Listen, totally cool. My plant becoming Catholic is a great deal for her not dying over the summer. But now I must navigate this interfaith household. Keep me in your thoughts.

I'm gonna write up my thoughts on The Odyssey (2026) later, but just wanted to share real quick that you're not missing anything if you just see it in a standard theater vs IMAX. I saw it in IMAX and in standard and like, yes IMAX is how Chistopher Nolan envisioned it, but there is nothing weirdly cropped or missing if you do just like regular. I'm not saying this would've been better or anything, but I would've killed to see when Kara gets shot with the kryptonite arrows, instead of Lobo immediately jumping into save her, if she's succumbing to the kryptonite and thinks about her family. What happened to them is what is happening to her and, just for a moment, she wants to lay down and die and be together with them again. But then she gets the flashbacks. Remembers that they are still with her and they told her to be good and she can hear Ruthyie screaming for help. And even though she's dying, she's been dying this whole time, she gets up and fights for those who can't fight for themselves

I explained the “x before gta6” meme to my immigrant father and he, in turn, explained to me how back in his day in Romania, they had the same type of joke, except instead of it being gta6, it was about the imminent death of a singer named Gică Petrescu, who everyone was continuously shocked by because he refused to die. Every time a momentous event happened people would say, in essence: “This happened and Gică Petrescu hasn’t even died yet?!?”

So. He understood the gta6 meme immediately because they apparently had the same thing in Romania when he was young, except way, way more morbid
