in 2026 DO NOT ask yourself whether your art is GOOD
instead ask:
is it SINCERE
was it CATHARTIC
was it FUN TO MAKE
is it MADE BY ME
and don't forget to stay silly
I’ve posted this elsewhere but *insert friend joke here*
Not lovers or friends but a secret third thing (they play Catan together and Stratt pretends she's not preparing Grace for a one way trip to space)

"I am not a vessel for your good intent" goes hard as a line from a disabled perspective. Abled people care so much more about being their idea of a good ally than they do actually being a good ally. They shove their good intent right down your throat and then act surprised when you tell them they're suffocating you.
[ID: An image of a sign with a blue background and with a graphic of a stick figure in a wheelchair at the beginning, resembling disabled parking space signs. The text below the stick figure reads "I am not a vessel for your good intent." /ID]
Now I love comically large Adrian as much as the next guy, but hear me out on the potential of a comically small Adrian
After the Beetles have returned to Earth and everyone learns exactly what happened to Grace, someone would probably make the story into a Broadway musical at some point. Kinda the Earth counterpart to @autumn-sweet-fae’s Eridian Opera idea.
The actor playing Grace would have to be ATHLETIC. Not just because Grace is muscular, but because he’s constantly jumping around, climbing the ladders of the Hail Mary. He’d also be doing lots of quick-changes when jumping from scenes on the ship to flashbacks on Earth. Since he’s always wearing a jumpsuit, it could be pretty quick; just unzip the jumpsuit, throw on the fox cardigan or a lab coat or his yellow raincoat, and vice versa.
He could also have little moments when he excitedly explains all the science he’s doing in terms the audience can understand, not just to Carl or Rocky but also directly to the audience, Bill Nye style. And he could throw in dated slang from back before he left Earth. It would perfectly capture his trying-to-be-the-cool-teacher-to-middle-schoolers persona.
They could have Rocky as a puppet, puppeteered by a team in ninja outfits just like the real puppeteers did for the movie. Or when he’s in the ball, it could be a clear ball that’s remote controlled to roll around the set while Rocky is projected onto/into it with screens/holograms.
During scenes that take place in space, the actors who play the other humans could act like a Greek Chorus, singing from the wings to cheer Grace on or remind him of the mission (very much like how the choir was used in the movie score).
It would be a pretty big set, but I’m imagining something on a swivel: one half of the set is the Hail Mary and on the other side is whatever other settings they need for a scene, be it Earth settings like Grace’s classroom, a biology laboratory, Stratt’s Vat, Baikonur Cosmodrome, etc, or space scenes that aren’t inside the ship like the Tunnel or Time Go Fishing.
The Hail Mary would be pretty big for a set, but if they use the book design for the ship, they could fit it into a three-story set like the Lost Boys Musical: Dormitory on bottom, Lab in the middle, and Cockpit up top. They could add Rocky’s tunnels during the intermission.
Obviously there must be at least one song (preferably more) that Stratt sings directly to Grace. Not Sign of the Times, but an original song with the same vibe, minor key and telling Grace they can meet again, somewhere far away. And at the end when Stratt receives the videos on Earth, she’ll sing the same line but now in major key.
sometimes you see Takes™ that make you go "mmmhmmm okay yeah i see we both interpreted that differently based on what the show gave us, but i see how you arrived at your ideas even if they're different from mine," and then sometimes you see Takes™ that make you go "brother what show did you even fucking watch"
It was nice not having to cover them in blood and soot this time

"-Rocky is strangely adamant about the fact that he'll always be there, in the end. He might take a while, he might be slower, but he'll get to me at the end of the day. I assume that this is due to him loosing his crew, and having an intense alien mixed case of separation anxiety and PTSD. It will be noted, however, that while the author does have 'doctor' in his title it's not that kind of doctor, and he does not have any ability to diagnose."

"Cheated? Professor I'd never! I studied for this test! That's why I did so well this time compared to the rest of the semester! Everything on that test came from my own brain!"

"Dear Journal, I've got more 'information' on the hallucination that lives in my head. He says one thing, but is another. This is pretty typical of a hallucination, but odd for this specific one. He's never lied to me before. He must have grown with me as I aged up. I'll talk more with my doctor at our next appointment."

"Sorry, Stratt, I'll be sure to double check my work to make sure my imaginary hallucination base six number system doesn't clog up the works of the rest of the scientists here on board."

"Hey Stratt, Dr Grace is a normal biologist right? Just a biologist? Not an engineer? You sure? He knows a lot about engines and materials. You're sure he's not got an engineering degree up in that head of his? positive?"
