Most people know that Carrie was fat in the book but she's never been portrayed on screen by a fat girl, which makes the pig blood prank fall much flatter. But I'd like to give a different example on fat erasure on screen: Meg from Little Women.
Meg is described in literally the first pages as being 'plump and fair'. Plump here referring to her being slightly curvier than her sisters. This isn't just a little fact about Meg but it actually affects the story.
In most film adaptations when Meg 'goes to Vanity fair' she's tight laced into a corset to make the stereotypical corsets are vain and painful message and get the point across that Meg is uncomfortable. But the books don't mention corsets at all, what happens is that Meg borrows a dress from Belle and, because she's a bit bigger, it doesn't quite fit her right. She's uncomfortable because she's wearing a dress that's not her own and it doesn't fit, which is why she's tight and it feels bad.
I have thoughts about the general use of costuming in most adaptations in regards to the book (clothing plays a big role in the sisters' lives and they mention clothes and fashion constantly) and this is one of the examples that specially bothers me. In favour of casting a thinner actress and making the typical tight lacing scene they miss the oportunity to make Meg slightly bigger than her sisters and other girls, and showing her in a dress that's not hers in a home that's not hers, playing pretend essentially.

Why do I have to download a fucking app to access tickets I bought on a WEBSITE???? Please explain to me like I'm five how this makes sense???
Being a translation major means having a copy of the same book in Spanish but made by different translators bc someone told you one version is better than the one you already owned and now you have to check if it's true and also you own it in it's original language
'You don't do makeup for yourself' tell that to trans women and alt women and literally any woman who does makeup because we enjoy the process and not the end result. Makeup is a complex, nuanced topic to talk about and saying no woman does makeup becuase they actually like it for themselves and their own enjoyment is, I fear, incredibly condescending to many of us.
We can have this same conversation about literally anything feminine like feminine fashion and hairstyles and everything. But the conversation has to be nuanced and include differing views on the subject, including makeup for practical uses like using kohl and makeup for political uses like goth makeup.
we are so back. no new developments I just have a gut feeling
How I feel after Spain won against France tonight
Radfems are exhausting.
A lot of people critize The Craft's treatment of Rochelle and it's a valid critique, but it's one justified by the fact the film is just not that good
The deliberate systematic purge of transfems by the staff has gotten so bad that not even Gooseworx was safe. Fucking Gooseworx.
Wishing the current Tumblr owners nothing but swift bankruptcy and eventual sale of the hellsite to someone else
'Reggaeton is sooo sexist they constantly degrade women in songs how can you like it and be a feminist' Mick Jagger beat Marianne Faithful and Lindsey Buckingham is known to have been violently abusive to both Stevie Nicks and other of his girlfriends. Many male rockstars have had relationships were they abused their partners verbally and physically, while singing about how beautiful women are in the kindest most respectful way possible. Many of them have also abused their power to get with underaged girls who we still call 'groupies' to this day. And John Lennon famously sang about imagining people living in peace and love while he was beating Yoko Ono.
I don't know, maybe Bad Bunny has made some distasteful songs in the past and even now and maybe a lot of reggaeton singers have also done that (which I'm going to break a leg and say not all of the songs people use as examples read as sexist to me but oh well). But sometimes writing a beautiful song about how much you love your wife is hiding the fact you beat her, and sometimes writing a song about how hot and sexy women won't leave you alone means nothing. Not to mention these rockstars (who are white mostly) never see their songs picked apart as much as afro-latino reggaeton singers do.
AND NOT TO MENTION REGGAETON, MUCH LIKE ROCK, IS A FUCKING GENRE WHERE THERE'S ALSO WOMEN SINGERS LIKE VILLANO ANTILLANO, YUNG MIKO, BAD GYAL AND OTHERS!!!
Old men saying regaeton is super sexist as if they haven't been sexist all their lives just because it's music younger gens listen to (and because it's made by latino people) will never not be funny to me as someone who exclusively listens to female and queer rockstars because I know what many of these male rockstars people KEEP CELEBRATING TO THIS DAY have done and sometimes continue to do.
So what kinds of work do we consider Bible fanfiction. Is all media that features biblical themes or characters a fanfic? Or are there guidelines?
Is Faust considered a fanfic? Bedazzled? Lucifer?
Is Xena considered Bible fanfic? Im just trying to read the room so I see we're all on the same page

I have my last exams tomorrow and I am feeling. whatever about it. I'm not calm but I'm not. Well I Am stressed about it but it's. It's stressed in like a resigned yolo way. do you know.
Sorry but I don't think Nikki saw Bear as just a brother. It was super clear to me that she had feelings for him and that, had he not been a fucking idiot and had some balls and asked her out, she would've probably said yes to going out at least one time and see how it goes. I think people focusing on Sarah saying that Nikki said she saw Bear as a brother are forgetting the fact that Sarah told Nikki she had feelings for him, which probably made Nikki (who mind you seems the only actual friend in the whole group) tell her that as a way to encourage her to ask him out. But their interactions at the beginning show Nikki liked Bear and his company, and felt connected to him.
And I think this makes the situation worse. Because it means what Bear had to do to get with Nikki was simply be brave and ask her out, be a normal guy and have a normal conversation and take it if she said no. But the fact she could say no terrified him. And I think that's why Nikki was written to like Bear but not necessarily tell him herself, because being in this grey area of 'she loves me she loves me not' means Bear is left to wonder if she likes him and fears the answer is no,and that's why he needs her agency taken away. He needs to make sure the answer is yes, because it being no will be painful and he's too much of a coward to face rejection even if that rejection means still being friends.
I also think Nikki liking Bear doesn't mean their relationship would work, in fact I only think she had a fling for him but not as strong as Sarah did which is why she said she saw him as a brother. And I say this because I've been there, and it's very obvious to me from the way she acts that she did like him. Hell she even asks him straight up if he likes her or not because she knows there's something there, but perhaps wants to make sure since as she said herself Bear is a closed book so she wants to make sure she's reading him well.
And also she asks him straight up if he likes her because she probably knows he's scared of rejection and stuff and wants to push him a bit, perhaps even make him a bit uncomfortable since he just called her a name she hates and makes HER uncomfortable.
TLDR I feel super bad for Nikki and Baron is a coward and Ian is a pig and Sarah is a bit of an asshole but at least I can see how the situation looks from her POV so at least there's that but UGGGGGH MY GIRL

Watched Obsession last night. Awful, evil, disgusting, made me sick to my stomach. 10/10 would recommend, would not watch again though
