Everyone thinks Shane doesn’t drink because he is so disciplined and healthy and while yes, that is true, the real reason is because he’s a runner when he’s drunk. He’s sprinting down dark alleys. His friends are trying to follow him? They are chasing him! Gotta run! He’s climbing up trees. He’s finding stairs to slide down the railing. He can’t stay still. He needs to go on an adventure!

Unfortunately he’s too fast for his own good. One time during his rookie season the team lost him after he got drunk and left his phone and wallet with Hayden. He woke up next to a dumpster five kilometers from the bar they ended the night at and had to rely on the good will of some kind Canadians (who were fortunately fans) to get to the practice facility. It was the first and only time he was late to practice and the reason he never drinks during the season.

Crucially Ilya is unaware of this and assumes Shane is going to be a horny sex demon the first time Shane gets drunk around him, and is very alarmed when Shane instead starts sprinting away from him at full speed. He’s like a dog and will stop running to give Ilya a chance to get close but then he’s off again. By the end of the night Ilya is exhausted and understands those parents who keep their kids on a leash (but ofc overjoyed to see Shane so carefree)

I think once Shane and Ilya come out (get outed😭) one extra benefit Ilya had never thought about but really fking loves is that he just gets to go on random side quests with David and Yuna.

Ilya has a ‘omg I can do that now’ moment and suddenly he’s everywhere. He’s at the farmers market with David. He’s walking Anya with Yuna. He’s at David’s office party both of them charming all of David’s friends. Life’s good.

I will say as a great enjoyer of the Cis Hetero Romance Novel that if anywhere on the cover the author is described as writing good dirty talk you are inevitably going to run into a sex scene where the dude starts spouting off some shit like "I'm going to put my hard dong in your cute little pussy and freak it sensitive style"

to be clear many romances struggle with bad sex dialogue but there is a direct correlation between an author being specifically praised for it and the likelihood that what she's actually writing is "I can't wait to eat your tight hole like a bag of airplane pretzels"

One of my favourite bits in fma is how during the final arc they bring up why attempting human stransmutation is forbidden, as the readers we've seen what happens when an attempt fails with Ed and Al, so of course the logical explanation is that "it's too dangerous to attempt", or even "it goes against the natural way the world works, it's monstruous in nature and impossible".

But then Arakawa in her infinite wisdom as a writer goes, lol no, the goverment has been making flesh monsters with human transmutations in secret for years, they forbid it so that nobody can't even come close to attempting to create a personal army that cannot feel pain
