happy rwby volume 10 green light to all celebrating !!
kinda baffling to me that three years out people are still calling volume 9 a 'filler season', like just make it clear you don't pay any attention to the plot at all
character development isn't filler
lore drops aren't filler
paying off build-ups on character arcs isn't filler
having a season that's lighter on the main narrative to focus on the fallout of an intense arc, and ultimately reiterate and reconstruct the core themes of the show isn't filler
none of it's filler by definition because RWBY isn't an adaptation of anything - filler is specifically added material to pad for time so an adaptation doesn't catch up too quickly
it speaks to an incuriousness and dismissal towards the setting and the characters to dismiss everything volume 9 was doing as filler. this is a character driven show
Yang: Blake and I are dating now.
Weiss: Yeah I've known that for a while now.
Yang: We just started.
Weiss: Then what the fuck were you doing before that?
oh hey btw Blake is on ao3. Blake is an ao3 VETERAN. Blake writes 500,000 word long fanfics of her favourite books. Blake is infamous in some of her fandoms for her writing. Blake has around 10,000 bookmarks. Blake is also on Tumblr and makes concept art for the book characters. RWY are asleep meanwhile Blake is grinding on Chapter 58 of her huge crossover crack ship porn with plot fanfic that has over twenty thousand kudos. btw.
rwby makes me want to cry so bad. imagine being created with the budget of a nickel and two toothpicks. the map of the region was a stain on a napkin. the creator wrote out to the ninth volume but died before the last of the third volume. but his friends kept the show going, kept true to what he wrote. the show survived the shutdown of the parent company. had crossover movies with wb and was dropped by them as well. got picked up by yet another studio. has been in hiatus hell for 3 years but is confirmed to continue. this is insane and unheard of for this type of show. also the core message of the show is to not give up, to keep going even when the going gets tough, never give up. rwby is not giving up. rwby, monty, you will always be famous <3
you love to see it
There's something kinda funny about how RWBY just absolutely refuses to die despite a constant stream of adversity. The first season was objectively hot garbage but it still got a second season. The creator of the series whose passion project the whole thing was passed away in a freak accident after the second season but they just kept going without him and somehow a significant portion of the fanbase went along for it. The budget got slashed in Season 5 because of gross mismanagement but no worries! The fans stuck with it and they got it back for Season 6. Then a few seasons later the entire company that's been producing it went completely tits up and we all assumed THAT would be the end but nope!!! They got bought by Viz. RWBY has now outlived both the man who dreamt it up and the company that produced it. In an era where numerous streaming shows get axed after one or two seasons despite being critical successes with large fanbases it is completely baffling that a show that is so consistently troubled and infamously has an extremely mixed reception cannot be fucking ended despite all indications to the contrary. It truly is femslash Supernatural
guess what just got greenlit for a 10th season, 2 years after OP's post
WE DID IT LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
happy pride month to themđȘđ„
Role swap au where Zuko was the Avatar who got frozen for a hundred years, so when heâs rescued from the ice instead of a goofy twelve year old Katara catches this mysterious teenager with long hair and a cool scar and a fucking DRAGON
Katara: BOY???? HOT BOY?????? HOT TEENAGE BOY?????????
Zuko: *speaks*
Katara: nevermind I hate him
How does Aang factor into this? I ask because the more I think about it the more I want him to somehow be trying to capture the Avatar.
Aang is 112 years old, decided he was going to be Zukoâs airbending teacher, and refuses to take no for an answer
Aang: Aw, the new Avatar doesnât want me. Aang: *gets out a weighted net* Time for Plan B then.
JDJSHJABDBFJSH
Look, you know how you keep a net from falling on you? YOU AIRBEND IT, SUCKA. Air comes right after fire in the cycle so itâs not like the guy has any other options. Do you want a flaming net falling on you? No? Then learn to airbend. Or this tiny old man will cart you away like a trussed turkey and lecture you about the power of laughter, going with the flow, opening your chakras, and other hippie shit.
Sokka, slouching against a fence, not moving: Oh nooooooo, that creepy old man stole the Avataaaaaaaaaar. Sokka, sitting down on the ground: We should dooooo something. Sokka, pulling out his lunch: Otherwise he might actually learn something. That would be teeeerrible. Katara, indignant rage coursing through her body: Sokka!!!!!!!! We have to go look for him!!!! Sokka: Might! Actually! Learn! Something! Katara! Katara: *wavers* Katara, also sitting down: We have to go look for himâŠ. *gets out her own sandwich* But, maybe after lunch.
I love that this transforms Aangâs role in the full Team Avatar familial situation from the baby of the family to the Grandpa with weird hobbies
My brain, immediately after the âAang wonât take no for an answerâ post:
Aang:Â Iâm gonna ride him! *jumps on Zukoâs shoulders*
Actually, I thought a bit more about this: If Aang is âgrandpa figure who wonât fucking stop teaching Zuko to be a better and more spiritually fulfilled person,â then what is Iroh doing?
And then it hit me.
Iroh: *sitting in a teahouse at a paisho table* Iroh, deadpan: I must capture the last airbender. Iroh: It is the only way to make sure the powe rof the Avatar wonât be turned on the Fire Nation. Iroh: Only then will I be redeemed in the eyes of the Fire Lord for my failure at Ba Sing Se. Iroh: ⊠Iroh: Anyway, itâs your turn.
About half of the B plots are just Iroh finding new ways to feign incompetence and bad luck so that his political watchdog canât prove that heâs letting Aang - and by extension Zuko - get away.
@ray10k
Sometimes Iroh plays paisho with Aang, whose entire disguise during these games consists of a painfully fake mustache.
AANG WAS THE OTHER PLAYER IN THAT SCENE OF COURSE ITâS PERFECT (the moustache is just a bit of Appaâs fur tied in a string)
i think about this post all the time and if i may, i would like to suggest keeping the banished royalty angle for zuko.
he was the eldest son of fire lord sozin, who knew the avatar was the greatest threat to the fire nation, but also knew the new one would be a firebender and he couldnât exactly merc his own people, now could he? but he always planned to order a convenient little assassination on whoever the new avatar turned out to be and in the meantime took out the air temples so that avatar couldnât learn the next element in the cycle. of course, when it turns out to be his son, sozin, stellar dad that he is, thinks âif you want something done rightâ and shoots a fire blast at his firstborn.
zuko enters the avatar state, blows up half the palace, etc etc as one does, gets a nasty scar for his trouble, and escapes, hence why he was hanging out far enough south to necessitate katara and sokka cracking open a cold boy a century later.
all this is to say 1. i think itâs a good way to maintain zukoâs background and characterization in an au like this and 2. it leads to a secret second roleswap
because this makes zuko irohâs uncle.
Reblogging again for Katara and Sokka cracking open a cold boy.
i, once again, miss my favorite ducks (weblena)

Me when im a kid
If Spider-Gwen had a bi flag on her wall there wouldnât be any debate as to whether or not she was really bi
âOh but I think that itâs that her version of Peter was trans so thatâs whyââ
This conversation would not exist if it was a bi flag or a pan flag or an ace flag
Why are you so eager to convince yourself that sheâs not a trans woman? Why is that?
âI donât mind characters being trans but I hate that itâs made their whole personality canât it just be that theyâre trans and the narrative doesnât have the call all this attention to it? Just let it be subtly thereâ
Aight hereâs a trans woman whoâs narrative is thematically linked with her transness in a way that enriches both her story, her characterization, and the story around her who doesnât ever mention that sheâs trans (but yâknow she has a trans flag in her room in the background subtly like you asked)
âUhhhh yeah she isnât trans where does it say that sheâs trans and also why would it matter that sheâs trans? Stop projecting yourself onto fictional charactersâ
relationship revealâŠ. to whom??
aftermath of what was probably a very weird conversation
