TWT spoilers - Hot Air Balloon and Branch Takes a Stand
The Branchifer/Poppifer thing was super cute! I have to wonder if he likes cutesy nicknames or just goes along with it because she likes them. I get the feeling he doesn’t – in Trolls Holiday he and Gristle were acting all cool with one another: “’Sup?” “’Sup” But I reeeally like the idea that she might have won him over and gotten him to enjoy cute little nicknames for each other. Maybe he only calls her Poppifer when her thinks they’re alone together. At least “Branchifer” not as over-the-top as some of the names she and Bridget call each other.
It was seriously awesome that neither of them was the least bit fazed that Poppy nearly got Branch impaled, as if his reflexes are so good that neither of them even noticed.
Branch in the Captain’s hat and wings. Siiigh… There really IS something so attractive about a person in uniform. He looked so happy to find the manual; why didn’t you let him indulge himself, Poppy? Nerdy Branch is something we don’t get to see nearly enough of. (BTW, the book isn’t a scrapbook; it’s embroidered felt. The page he’s looking at says Flying Without Crying.)
Or maybe he was so happy because he got to have Poppy all to himself, the perfect place to confess to her and maybe share a romantic journey. I couldn’t help but notice the look of disappointment on Branch’s face when they discover Biggie on board, because now he can’t be alone with Poppy. He makes a similar face in the jail when Biggie interrupts them.
It was a bit jarring to hear Biggie say “cotton candy” instead of “candy floss” as people with English accents usually do. I wonder what Branch was signaling “no” about to Biggie. No, they’re not going to meet Barb, or no, they’re not going to be friends when they meet?
I find it hypocritical for Poppy to lecture Branch about his weapons not being good for helping him listen when she doesn’t herself, lol. But I think she was enjoying teasing him about his “man stuff”, and for that I kinda can’t blame her. He’s SO cute when he’s flustered! (What the heck did he mean by “man stuff” anyway? Tools? Underwear? Porn magazines? (Yeahhh, probably not that last one.)
His voice was shaking after Poppy kicked his weapons overboard. Poor hurt baby face. Awww… (Notice his skin/ears are less delicately translucent than before, but by the same token, his eyes are a gorgeous vivid blue now. There was nothing wrong with his original lovely sky-blue color, but it was less noticeable because everyone’s irises were a little too narrow in the first movie to show off their colors well.)
No wonder she didn’t take him seriously. It’s interesting that at this point in their relationship, Poppy has most of the power,
but later on, Branch starts to stand up for himself.
I think it wasn’t until he walked away from her, making the choice to do what he believed was right, to go back home to protect the village instead of unquestioningly following in her wake that he finally earned her full respect. That’s when he became her equal.
