last book you read: Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler (but last re-read was - you guessed it - Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid)
a book I'd recommend: depends on who I'm recommending it to, but Babel by R.F. Kuang is one that I find myself thinking about a lot
a book I couldn't put down: The last book I breezed through was Role Model by Rachel Reid because I am feeling very itchy about season 2 of Heated Rivalry. It was cute but I wouldn’t necessarily rec it outside of that context. (I tend to be a binge reader in general so I’ll go a couple weeks without reading anything but then I’ll have some time on a random weekend & I’ll read a whole book)
a book I've read twice or more: Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen are probably some of my most re-read. I’m a notorious re-reader so when there’s a book I really enjoy I try to get a physical copy so I can always go back to it.
a book on my tbr: The Children of Jocasta by Natalie Haynes (because I liked her nonfic essay collections Divine Might and Pandora’s Jar), The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon (because I liked The Priory of the Orange Tree), and Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell (because want to read it before I see the film)
a book I've put down: Warsaw 1944: Hitler, Himmler, and the Warsaw Uprising by Alexandra Richie. I made it about halfway through and needed to take a break because I started having really violent nightmares about it and it was negatively affecting my day-to-day. I did leave the bookmark in because I want to return to it eventually though.
a book on my wish list: Among the Burning Flowers by Samantha Shannon (I'm waiting for the paperback to come out because that's what I have for the other Priory books and I like when they match). I’m excited for the next book in J.M. Miro’s Talents trilogy to come out too! No idea when that will be though
a favorite book from childhood: I re-read all the Percy Jackson books when the Disney+ show came out and was reminded how fun they are! For more of teen/YA range, I re-read the Hunger Games series a few years ago and they hold up ridiculously well (I might re-read them again before the Sunrise film comes out)
a book of poetry or lyrics that I own: I loooove poetry so I have a bunch but my two favorites to shout out are Don’t Let Me Be Lonely by Claudia Rankine and Deaf Republic by Ilya Kaminsky
a book I'd give to a friend: The Adventures of Amina al-Sarafi by Shannon Chakraborty. It’s just very fun, especially as a summer read!
a nonfiction book I own: Border by Kapka Kasabova. I love her writing style, there’s something very calming about it without being boring, like there’s a friend in your ear telling you about their travels.
what I'm currently reading: The Iliad trans. Emily Wilson (I’m dragging my feet on finishing it bc Patroclus just died & I’m gonna be Sad about everything that comes next), Parable of the Talents by Octavia E. Butler (kind of got put on hold with the HR obsession, but I picked it up after finishing Parable of the Sower), and lots of Heated Rivalry fanfic
what I'm planning on reading next: I wanna do a reread of Moby Dick after reading that Heated Rivalry article. I also think that would be fun for August to wrap up the summer and transition to fall!
