And so it ends. I can't believe I've been doing this for over 2 years now. I remember I did the first episode during my exams, because I wanted to procrastinate on studying and I got all hyped to try my hand at translating. Fast forward a month later and I gave up in the middle of the second episode.
I want to give a shout-out to that one person who commented on my YouTube upload of episode 1 and politely asking me if I plan to continue. That comment came like, 4 months after the first episode, but it was what made me complete the 2nd episode, and then I resolved to do the whole series. I was scared to take this project on because I have motivation issues and I worried that I would lose my will within a few months, but I actually made it through.
As of today, all 52 episodes have been translated!! Although there are many flaws and imperfections within it, I have learnt to accept them. I'm not going to say that my subs are 100% accurate because they are not, but I truly did this project out of love and passion for a piece of my childhood that I wanted to share with everyone.
The last episode really made me quite a bit emotional for multiple reasons. The truth is, I never watched the full show when I was a kid, so I've actually waited these 2 years patiently to find out how exactly the story concludes. It's not a perfect story by any means but it means the world to me. The joy and disbelief I felt realising that I finished translating this show 20 years after it first aired? Insane. (The first ep aired in October of 2005, if I'm right.)
▼ Taking Down the Episodes on Internet Archive
I also want to use this post to announce that I'm going to take down all the episodes I've uploaded on the Internet Archive within a month or two. I want to first explain this decision on the basis that while I know what I did was not really legal, it was my way of trying to preserve the translations while I figured my way around how I want to do this project.
For protecting myself, I will be taking down all those videos because I do not have the right to post the episodes. HOWEVER, I will only do that after I have made a separate upload of a ZIP file containing the subtitles for all 52 episodes. So if you're worried about losing the translations, don't worry because I'll be putting those up.
I'm pretty sure that's my intellectual property since I did the translations, so I think I'm allowed to put those up.
▼ ZIP File of all the UPDATED subtitle files
I would also recommend waiting for that ZIP file because those subtitles are updated after a second rewatch I'm currently doing to fix any translation errors I can find, any typos, structural issues and to have uniformity in how certain terms, lines, phrases and names are translated. Those subtitles will be 10× much better to watch with, so please wait for them a little longer ♡
▼ What I'm Doing From Now On
So right now, I'm currently rewatching all the episodes to fix the subtitles and hopefully I'll be done within a month or so. Once the subtitles are done, I'm hoping to get them to anime websites so anyone can watch Idaten Jump with subs. That's always been my dream.
I'm definitely going to be active here on tumblr, and you can expect some fanfics or (god forbid I have the terrible idea to try my hand at) fanarts. I will always be accessible here if you want to ask any questions about the translations, or the subs. I am also now free to make posts about all the characters, my headcanons for them, my interpretations and also fun tidbits about my view of them so I'll definitely be doing that, if you're interested.
▼ Major Thanks and Contributions
The most major contributor would definitely have to be all the people over at Team Shark Translations, especially @mtbzukan @toontamilindia and the ones who OCRed and helped me out majorly in shifting from hard subs to soft subs. Without their efforts, this would not have been possible and I'm truly grateful to have had them all behind me.
On an individual level, I would also like to thanks @idaten-jump @idatenjumpfanatic @sylvieserene @ishibo and everyone on tumblr whose interactions kept me engaged and motivated to keep going on.
Big big thanks to everyone who ever commented on my YouTube and those who sent reviews on the Internet Archive. I have read each and every one of them and I'm truly grateful for all the support, love and encouragement everyone gave me. I'm truly delighted that I could help so many of you be able to watch Idaten Jump in japanese with english subs.
Secret thanks to my friend and my sister who I bugged with my translations because there were so many moments where my brain stopped functioning in all 3 languages and I couldn't translate smth even if I understood it. I would randomly send them messages about "hey so how would you say this in like one line" and their help really was a blessing.
Last but not the least, the biggest contributor definitely has to be that one person who commented on my YouTube upload of Episode 1 asking me politely to check in on how I'm doing with Ep 2. I had given up translating at that point, but that comment got me to go and finish that episode, and then I made the resolve to do the whole show without giving up. I didn't believe in myself to be able to do this, but I did do it and I have no way to find them now or let them know that if it wasn't for their comment, this probably wouldn't have happened. So thank you, if you are reading this.
▼ Checking Out
So yeah, that's it. This is where the journey ends :') I hope that my efforts can bring in some new fans for this show, or let the old ones enjoy the show in its original flavour. I'll be active here and I'm also posting on the Idaten Jump subreddit with the posts I'm doing here so if you're on there, come say hi! I'm not as active on discord, but I do check in every now and then so if you want to talk, come find me with the same username ^^
FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO OUR FANDOM THESE PAST TWO YEARS, YAYA!
You are finally free from the horrors of translations, and left us with amazing rewards from your battles!
This feels like seeing the last episode of the show for the first time all over again!
I also had the idea to "make subs myself", but with far fewer skills and languages at my disposal it would likely have remained a distant and impossible dream. But now, it's like you're a mystical fairy that was sent to realise my dreams as a child. Only no magic is involved, and the result was accomplished through your sweat blood and tears instead, which is far greater and more amazing than any magic ever will be!
I wasn't able to partake much in the process itself, but if I was able to help in any way during this time, I am really glad!
This is us (Idaten Jump's whole global fandom) with you rn:
We did it, guys! We went from having nothing online for a show people hardly knew about existing, to having the whole show fully subbed and a fandom to enjoy and appreciate it! 🎆🎊🎉
I really feel like the writer of idaten jump could've done so much more with taiga's character instead of just treating him as character development for Gabu. He had so much potential as a rider, like they could've given him imperial tiger to use, not once did we see him as anything other than Gabu's personal assistant or something, they could've made him an actual important character that contributes to the plot tbh.
Which is why my fic WILL have taiga on an idaten bike, and actually contribue to the plot lol
I love how we're all dedicated to giving Taiga fics where he's getting proper screen time on a bike! Though this might be the first I've come across of him on an IDATEN one?! EVEN BETTER!!! 🎉
no bc why did they treat him like that😭😭😭 my boy deserved so much better
And I'm 40 pages deep into the fic and also going through a breakup rn so i have no idea whats going on in my life
OMG I hope things are getting better for you now...! Remember that real people come and go in life but that fictional characters are forever...! ✊
Also I admire how you're productively able to write a fic even when going through a life tragedy like that when someone like me has trouble writing even on a good day 😅
Nah cause this fic has been marinating since 2024. But on a lighter note, I'm about 60 pages deep now and believe me when I tell you my mc is going to stress taiga out more than Gabu and the four kings combined
Yeah~! When the fandom is this small you can easily make up 20-50% of the content in any given category yourself the moment you decide to make something! XD

From what I've seen on the internet, I don't think it's exclusive to small fandoms particularly. 😆
I actually had someone point out that fans tend to create the opposite material of what the show gave us. So the more wholesome stories get traumatic fan material, and more traumatic stories get wholesome fan material.
Maybe because Idaten Jump is an overall happy kids show we kinda go "Hmm but if it WASN'T and we took out all the stops to make them properly suffer? :D"
I love him. He's a ninja, an idaten rider, and all around "special"... but at the same time he's just Regular Dude™ who was just trying to cure his sister, uninformed about almost everything, and a tad overconfident.
He's like a direct opposite of Kyoichi. Koei works slightly better & more careful when alone, but becomes reckless & hotheaded when he was with others or when in the battle. He can manage himself but prefers to be led by other people (except Samejima brothers). He always grateful but also holds grudges. Maybe has mixed feelings with Taiga because he knows that boy also saved Kiku & suffered under Gabu's leadership, but Taiga also once part of the evil team that wrecked his life.
I feel like he lies better when indirectly like this or when his sister wasn't around. Sadly "doesn't want anyone to worry" is a common flaw for anyone, even for someone with a happy family. He's probably has had enough of people worry about him because of his phobia & his choice in outdoor activity so hiding his problems is a normal occurence for him even before the "dark light" incident.
LET OTHERS HELP YOU AND STOP BEING SO HARD ON YOURSELF-- also you're basically a (reversible) zombie victim
Exactly, kyoichi needs to chill out. In fact he needs to take a break from riding bruh. He's already stressed out trying to protect Makoto and now he has to save X-zone like pls, wth are the adults in the show even doing other than wasting oxygen????
Honestly, that kid REALLY is a hazard for himself. He's tryna solve all the problems by himself without involving others and making things wore for himself, poor kid
I would happily adopt all these kids and make sure they don't go on almost suicidal missions to save the world when the actual adults are sitting around and doing nothing lmao
Well theyre intended to be self inserts and/or role models for young kids but yeah I feel kinda maternal to them now TAKESHI THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT /affectionate
Also reminder that Yuki is also barely an adult herself and already witnessing horrors when she was Kyoichi's age
That's true, and also the fact that Takeshi casually gave bikes with enough power to destroy the entire universe to a bunch of 10 to 13 yr olds with the only exceptions being Koei and Arthur is something I've been questioning for so long
Well, Takeshi is basically a royalty from another world so his mindset is probably kinda different from ordinary people, and Arthur enabling the kids is maybe reflects the custom there, too. Only Yuki questions "why is this kid has the superweapon I search for so long??" but resigned herself and tried to be proactive for the kids
Koei is also a kid, basically. 18 years old, the age where everyone is confused about everything. And tbh the show surprisingly did a good job to portray his immature side. He just forced himself to grow up early for Kiku's sake.
I wonder how takeshi met Sho's mom in the first place and why he even went to the other world and stayed there long enough to have a wife and kids when he had a whole city to rule back home. It's been a while since i watched the series but I don't think they touched upon that subject
My personal headcanon? Since Sho's mom sells bento lunch boxes, my take was that after Takeshi landed in our world when he was homeless and hungry he came across her shop selling food but had no money and she took pity on him and fed him leftovers free of charge.
He vowed to pay her back and after getting the right info from her, he set out to make money from the only way he knew how: riding MTBs. He eventually made his way up in the ranks as someone with X-zone level talent, and after winning enough prize money he came back to the small town to fulfill his vow.
At that point she'd been watching his progress in the news as his fame rose and had come to admire him and his character quite a bit so they got together.
As for his canon brilliance in giving powerful bikes to young kids... I'm pretty sure the in-universe explanation is that this is due to them being the most talented and skilled riders around by sheer coincidence, with the added possibility that these ended up being the only people the bikes and their particular powers were compatible with.
I'm gonna add my own headcanon to it tho: Takeshi purposely may have chosen kids because they'd still have room to grow on top of their existing talent, unlike adults who'd more likely already be at their peak and potentially be on the decline. Given the kind of foes and challenges they'd face, maybe younger riders were preferable since they could adapt and learn better.
I need spinoff story about a confused Takeshi in "isekai" (aka our world) :""
Also I recommended kamen rider gavv (the one with the character missing because of personal mission without telling the others directly), it's also a reverse isekai story with the MC gets thrown out of his world to human world & rescued by humans. I can imagine Takeshi's first day on earth by basing that on the aforementioned MC.
Given what Sho was like coming back to our world after spending a few months in X-zone I'll bet it was nothing short of him trying to jump off houses on a bike and getting a broken leg. Maybe he fell in front of his future wife's shop and that's how they met...?
If Takeshi broke his legs it would be a nightmare for a rider like him :" I love the theory that he was hungry & met Sho's mom. Maybe he tried to barter with bike parts, Sho's mom got angry, and he wanted to leave but hunger made him lose consciousness in front of her shop?
True, but athletes do unfortunately get injuries all the time. It doesn't have to be a major injury, even a sprained ankle would be enough. I just like the idea of him having to stay at her house while slowly developing feelings for each other, idk. XD
But I do like the idea of him trying to pay with bike parts, that would be epic. Maybe he first passes out in front of the shop and when he wakes he's so hungry he finishes all the food provided for him without thinking, then finds out they don't accept his funky currency and had to work at the store to pay off his debt for a while and that's how they came to know each other?
That must be why he had grey hair at such a young age!!
And as someone who looked up to Kyoichi when I was younger and now think poor kid needs help now that I'm older, I fear I feel about him the way Yuki does and I'm about to turn into Koei too.
I wonder if Yuki was about to take off after him herself out of habit before Arthur told her to stay back and hold down her station while he volunteered to go instead. And as soon as Yuki managed to get someone else to take her place with proper training she set off after them like she'd wanted bc mama needs to protect her babies! 😫
I'm convinced Koei and Arthur laugh now because they've definitely received their fair share of nicknames from Yuki at this point.
Also, I always remember how at the MTB tournament award ceremony it was Yuki who noticed that Taiga wasn't there and asked if anyone had seen him. Mama-hen was definitely counting to see if all her little chickies were there. XD
Huh, that's strange why do I remember it as being a convo between Yuki and Arthur instead. 😵 (Proof I NEED to rewatch the series before I attempt ANY fics! 💀)
But Yeah, it makes sense for it to be Kyo. I remember he was the one who took the main trio to see Taiga during Arthur vs Koei match after he'd been kicked out of Team ST (unless I'm misremembering THAT too). So it DOES seem like Taiga usually contacts Kyo first. Makes me wonder if they knew each other from our world to some degree, perhaps they go to the same middle school or so, and Taiga thought it worthwhile to reach out to him first. So ofc it'd be Kyoichi who goes "Bruh I haven't heard from my bro in days, and I'm so worried I'm asking u guys now" when he up and vanishes without a word.
Taiga got added to Kyo's pack in his mind, he's looking out for him like the rest of the members now. XD
That must be why he had grey hair at such a young age!!
And as someone who looked up to Kyoichi when I was younger and now think poor kid needs help now that I'm older, I fear I feel about him the way Yuki does and I'm about to turn into Koei too.
Welp, this is why I love both! The "cool, reliable, but secretly a mess" character is one of my favorite type👌
The difference is Kyoichi's messy side is hidden well because his goody-two-shoes side shows up more easily when he's with others (maybe he just likes to help people?), but Koei's bad side comes out as often as his good side so he sometimes looks messier in my eyes.
yup, the contrast is what makes them so compelling as characters. XD
I think it reflects their characters as opposites, being of light and shadow. Kyo shines in the spotlight but he has to make himself look perfect in others' eyes due to all the attention on him. But Koei operates from the darkness and is mostly focused on getting his job done for survival, regardless of what others think of it.
I feel like he lies better when indirectly like this or when his sister wasn't around. Sadly "doesn't want anyone to worry" is a common flaw for anyone, even for someone with a happy family. That makes sense, having adult riders would cause them to be out of their prime wayyyy faster than it would take for the kids to grow and hone their skills
Plus, kids would heal faster and bounce back better than adults would too. It's hard to say how long they'd be trying to take the evil spirit down for (assuming even Takeshi didn't have the best estimates) so it would be preferable to go with kids who are in the process of growing up rather than adults who are about to be growing old.
Also consider that Takeshi was in a hurry. He hosted the Ancient Curse™ and didn't have much time. He selected his heroes based on their potential(maybe?) before his entire consciousness disappear. So far we have Nepotism (Yamato bros), someone from X-Tower (Arthur), and some random talented youngsters. Thats good enough to save the world :""
Fair point. He might have been forced to choose the first decent and compatible people he found without much option, and RNG got us these fellows. Which might also make sense why he went for his own kids who ride + their friends and schoolmates, along with a knight and ninja from X-zone who seemed like they'd make good additions to the team.

That must be why he had grey hair at such a young age!!
And as someone who looked up to Kyoichi when I was younger and now think poor kid needs help now that I'm older, I fear I feel about him the way Yuki does and I'm about to turn into Koei too.
