After 9 months of work, my Oseberg tapestry sweater is complete!
This was my first sweater knitted in the round, first stranded colourwork project, and my first time steeking. It was definitely my most challenging project so far, and a lot of learning and research was involved. I used a colourwork chart created by the very talented Molly Gifford, which is available for free on Ravelry
For reference, this is one of the fragments uncovered from the gravesite:
Some scholars think that the Oseberg tapestry includes the earliest known artistic depiction of Odin's ravens, Huginn and Muninn. So I added them to the sleeves as a little Easter egg.
I have been saving this since last year. Happy Earth Day everyone.
literally has been in my queue for an entire year. you just can’t miss reblogging.
obsessed with this bookshop in stratford-upon-avon having WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE listed as a ”local author”
If you're writing 18th century dialogue, this website lets you search words and phrases to double-check whether they were in use & meant what you intend. It doesn't include every period-accurate use of a word/phrase, but it certainly helped me separate genuine 18th century grammar from the vague tangle of 💬old-fashioned fancy-speak💬 I've internalized from TV and video games.
Went to the grocery store with my kindergartener. We weighed some bananas: 2 pounds even. We weighed a watermelon: 4 pounds even. We weighed some mangos: a little over 1 pound. We weighed the watermelon AND the bananas: 6 pounds even.
“That’s funny” said the child “because 2+4=6 and two pounds and four pounds is six pounds. It’s like the same as math!”
“What happens if you add 6+1?”
“SEVEN”
“What if we put one pound of mangos on the scale?” <mangos added>
“IT’S THE SAME!!”
“OK, what’s 7-4?”
“Three?”
“What if we take the four pound watermelon off the scale?” <watermelon removed>
“Mama! Are you telling me math works In Real Life? Think of all the things you could measure!!”
rachelreidwrites: I know there have been a LOT of images/videos/interviews etc of, y’know, all of us, and this one is very old now, but listen: I wish I could coherently explain how I feel when I look at this image. I want that for every author. Like, it STILL doesn’t feel like it can possibly be real. I wish I could show my 5-years-ago self this image. It would make her brain melt.
I never thought I would be siding with the pope’s involvement in politics and cheering him on. I will say that.

Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen calls down to Mission Control to name a previously unnamed crater 'Carroll' after the late wife of fellow crew member and mission commander Reid Wiseman. Carroll passed away from cancer in 2020.
