the vivid sensory-memory of sucking water out of a washcloth as a child
Mammu! Finius and Ferbingetorix built Rome in a day!
I feel like this also implies that rome is somehow being destroyed by the end of the day
The Emperor Constantine loves Finius and Ferbingetorix's "New Rome" so much that he makes it his new capital and names it after himself.
Yeah that checks out.
What's the doofenschmirtz contraption/scheme of the day?
Doofenric the Ostrogoth (insert jokes about his daughter Vanessa being "Goth" but in the modern sense) invented a City-Mover-Inator to move Rome across the Danube so his Germanic confederation could sack it.
Thankfully, Agent Pericles stops him by redirecting the Inator to Finius and Ferbingetorix's New Rome instead, moving it to the Bosphorus.
While Pericles and Doofenric are fighting over the controls of the Inator, it gets accidentally changed to paint remover mode and then fired at a random direction.
Somewhere nearby a painter just finished coloring the statue of the emperor when suddenly all the paint gets removed.
Painter: Aw...
Painter, giving it a second look: Hmmm... đ€
Candysseia: What animal even is Pericles?
Finius: We named it "platypus", meaning flat-foot.
Ferbingetorix: On account of his feet being flat.
Candysseia: And where did he come from?
Febingetorix: We have no earthly idea.
Doofenric the Goth: Pericles the- wait, what animal even are you, Agent Pericles?
Pericles: *hands him papyrus*
Doofenric: *reading* A "platypus", meaning flat-foot... oh, on account of your feet being flat!
To be clear, the Emperor Constantine looks like Roger Doofenshmirtz.
Also, I agree with everybody who says that Greco-Roman Candace's name should be Candassandra (since nobody believes her warnings).

Raise your hand if your WIP and/or characters are (one/two of) the reasons why you actually want to get up in the morning. Don't be shy!
If you love your wip/characters and it/they make you excited. If it/they actually remind you what burning passion feels like.
Raise your and high and proud.

Venn diagrams donât really work past 3 circles.
4-circle Venn diagrams are problematic because they donât include the intersections of opposite circles without also including one of the other two circles (in this example thereâs no AC or BD)
The problem only gets worse with more circles.
You could solve this problem by using different shapes, like ovals
When I was a (unmedicated, undiagnosed ADHD) kid, like, under 12, my room was a mess all the time. Not shocking.
I struggled keeping it clean.
I struggled getting it clean.
I would sincerely put in quite a bit of effort and be really proud of the progress I made. Then one of my parents would come check and see how I was doing.
"Well, you've still got a long way to go."
That sentence. I was like, 11 when my parents were saying that to me. It was crushing. All my pride and satisfaction with my work was completely gone. All my effort was worthless to them. All they saw what everything I didn't do.
At the age of ELEVEN, I knew that wasn't right. That wasn't fair. I swore to myself I would never invalidate someone's work like that.
Now, at 30, I catch myself thinking 'I cleaned up, but my apartment is still so messy.' and I flashback to standing in my bedroom as a child, hearing those fucking words from my parents.
'No. I wouldn't invalidate someone else's work. I'm not going to invalidate my own. I did good. I made progress.' and I'll list the things that I DID get done to myself.
You deserve credit for all the progress you make.
You deserve credit for all the work you do.
It doesn't matter how much work you have left.
What you accomplish, no matter how small, counts. Even when what you accomplished was taking a day to rest and recharge and give yourself a break.
Never let anyone invalidate your work. Not even you.
It never ends
WHILE ACTIVELY WRITING the next chapter of my WIP, I opened a new document and started a different one. I need somebody to like hold the reins and keep me on one story at a time
You know, I'm starting to wonder if we as writers are shooting ourselves in the feet by insisting we stick to one WIP at a time.
So if you're feeling guilty about starting a new project spontaneously, but the passion is there:
I hereby give you permission to go absolutely wild. Open several documents and several tabs and see where it takes you. Writing something, anything, can't be a waste of time. And anyway, unhinged writing is arguably the best way to write, so go feral.
I myself have like 9 long WIPs. It actually helps.
When I get stuck in one point of a story, I go continue another one. It both gives me a reassurance that I am actually doing sth and not circling around myself looking for a solution, and gives me a fresh look and perspective of how stories work actually. Like, it kinda gives me a bigger picture.
And it's alsoa change in scenery, genre, characters and everything. Really nice in fact.
Hey remember when US and Russia was all like âWeâre the best!!! Weâve won the space race!!!!â But India sent a kick-ass space probe to Mars and the whole mission was fuel efficient, costed less and a roaring success in the first try and then they were like ââŠ..wait no that canât be trueâ and still have the audacity to call us âunderdevelopedâ or only view us as a âthird world countryâ? :)
For anyone who needs more info, the probe was called Mangalyaan (which literally means space probe vehicle) or Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) and you can also get more information here and here
Remember when NYT mocked India for this very thing and an TOI (a major indian newspaper) responded with this? :)
They were being racist asf and we were till respectful literally fuck you if you think âthird world countiesâ canât be better than you
white people can and should reblog this
and shout out to the women engineers integral to the launch
âIndian staff from the Indian Space Research Organisation celebrate after the Mars Orbiter Spacecraft entered Marsâs orbit.
On November 5, 2013, a rocket launched toward Mars. It was Indiaâs first interplanetary mission, Mangalyaan, and a terrific gamble. Only 40 percent of missions sent to Mars by major space organizationsâNASA, Russiaâs, Japanâs, or Chinaâsâhad ever been a success. No space organization had succeeded on its first attempt. Whatâs more, Indiaâs space organization, ISRO, had very little funding: while NASAâs Mars probe, Maven, cost $651 million, the budget for this mission was $74 million.Â
This was not the only success of the mission. An image of the scientists celebrating in the mission control room went viral. Girls in India and beyond gained new heroes: the kind that wear sarees and tie flowers in their hair, and send rockets into space.â

why taking commissions for fanfics can KILL Archive of Our Own and fanfic culture as a whole
okay, so thing is, fanfics are allowed â as in theyâre not banned â because nobody is supposed to be profiting off of copyrighted characters.
this is why popular site like Archive of Our Own is allowed to be up and running, because no one is supposed to be making money from fanfics.
the fact AO3 is allowed to be up and running, unfortunately, can and will most likely change if people start normalizing commissioning fanfics and making profit off of them.
because the second those big companies learn people are profiting off of their copyrighted characters, the target they will attack after you (in terms of legal action) is a platform like Archive of Our Own, which will likely ruin it all for everybody and every fandom.
imagine Archive of Our Own getting shut down because fanfics were banned because people were profiting off of them. (I know AO3 isnât only about fanfics, but since itâs mostly known for fanfics, it will most likely get targeted and that will most likely mean itâll get shut down if worst comes to worst.)
honestly. most people write fanfics in their free time for free out of passion and love they have for their favorite characters.
people read fanfics for free because thatâs their source of happiness.
Iâm not saying there will be no fanfics left in this world if they really are banned, because people will always find a way. but it WILL be so much harder having to sneak around and find a way to post fanfics without them getting removed at best, the authors getting sued at worst. and it WILL be harder for readers to find your works if we have to censor key words and character names in order to avoid getting caught.
itâs so much easier like this, we can freely post fanfics without having to hide and censor key words or worrying about anything.
no, Iâm not making this post for the sake of those big companies. this post isnât about âhey, donât profit off of their charactersâ. itâs about âhey, donât risk ruining fanfics culture as a whole for everybody by profiting off of them and putting a platform like Archive of Our Own in jeopardy.â
if you donât want to live in a fandom without AO3, keep fanfics free.

#besties i am starting to think the human skeletal system might just be trash (via @cicerfics)
you are not wrong bestie
The human body is actually a marvel. It is just that our bodies are meant to move (not exercise, just lots of different movements throughout the day). Here is a video of the Hadzabe, one of the last hunter-gatherer tribes alive (when I was studying biomechanics I used to watch hours of these videos). They sprint, squat, walk, well into their 70s without any pain.
I know we can't change our professions, so if you are dealing with neck pain, carpel tunnel syndrome etc, please try to maximise your recovery by eating and sleeping well, and if you can, try visit a physiotherapist or check out physio-pedia.com My best general health advice is: get barefoot shoes, and walk on uneven terrain once or twice per week. Without getting too much into detail: the feet have evolved over millions of years to adapt to the terrain we walk on to provide stability. There are many bones in the feet allowing them to become many different shapes. These shapes affect the kinetic chain above the feet (ankle, lower/upper leg, hips, lower/mid/upper back, neck). All these structures try to organize themselves to keep you in balance and move you forward, a beautiful interplay between your body and gravity. Due to the uneven terrain, your body will take on many different shapes which keeps your body healthy. With narrow shoes you will limit some crucial movements/shapes your feet should be able to make, so something else will have to compensate to make up for that movement option your feet are lacking. Often times, you will get lower back pain. I used to get it all the time when walking in Timberlands or Nike court shoes. Anyway, barefoot shoes are not the most trendy, far from it, but they are bringing out better and better designs each year. Remember, start with once or twice per week 30 minutes, uneven terrain (start soft, grass, forest, meadow), relax your entire body, feel your weight transition fully on your feet as you walk, let your arms swing naturally, let gravity help you.
