Everyday ways to praise Hermes:

Believe in yourself.

Why would He choose you if you weren’t good enough? Why would He choose you if you weren’t smart enough? Why would He choose you if He thought you wouldn’t be a worthy worshipper?

He wouldn’t.

Allowing low self-esteem to run rampant is disrespectful to our patrons. It is akin to saying they are wrong for choosing us.

Furthermore, the messages you give yourself fall under His domain just as much as the messages He gives you.

Stop telling yourself that you’re not good enough. If you can’t do it for yourself, do it to honor Him.

Thank a mail carrier for their service.

Messengers have always been important members of their communities, and present-day is no exception. Without them, civilization would grind to a standstill—no matter how automated things are.

Mail carriers are modern-day messengers, and they deserve more credit than they get.

They face dangerous weather, difficult driving conditions and physical exhaustion every single day. Last year around Rural Dionysia, I thanked a mail carrier for her service, and she got the BIGGEST smile on her face as she excitedly told me that this was her third day on the job and that I was the first person to thank her for her service so far.

Especially this time of year—thank your local mail carrier, and consider a holiday gift, whether it’s a tip or something else.

Everyday opportunities to praise Hermes:

Stuck at a stoplight.

Prayer: “I can wait for His guidance, as He times things for a reason.”

On 9/11, Seth Macfarlane, same dude who wrote Futurama and Disenchanted, was supposed to board American Airlines flight 11, which later that day crashed into the twin towers. Due to the guidance of Dionysus and Hermes (I.e. he missed his flight because of a gnarly hangover), his life was saved.

As the Gods of theater and messages, it makes absolute perfect sense that these two forces would guide a comedy writer out of danger.

Same day—Mark Wahlburg took a flight to Canada to attend a film festival on a whim instead of boarding flight 11 to New York, Michael Jackson overslept and missed a meeting on the top floor of one of the towers, and an investment banker named George Keith missed the fatal incident because he was stuck in traffic.

Part of being a devotee of the God of luck so realizing that sometimes “bad luck” is good luck taking an unexpected form.

Why would a person go to Hermes for writing instead of Apollo? (Sorry, I saw an ask that was further back and got sort of confused, since I always heard that Apollo is for music and the arts, which I just assumed included writing.)

hermes is the god of language, but yeah, there’s some overlap between hermes/apollo/the muses re: creative writing and really depends on the type!

Hermes is the god of communication and messages, and I also tend to think that he’s gonna help imbue the piece with whatever the reader needs to see at the time. Also—if you are a professional writer, especially freelance, Hermes is also associated with small businesses.
