“—What about the group project?” Scott asked, and though his voice was reluctant, he had come to a full stop at this point, eyes drifting longingly towards the body of water. bark, bark, bark. Malia claws on the door of Scott’s room, as she tries to push her wet nose under the door, pushing her body against it. Why couldn’t coyote’s open doors? She growls and starts to try to use her teeth to open the doorknob. Malia has the common courtesy to check if Melissa was home before she did that, and she wasn’t. So, there was no reason why Scott’s shouldn’t be home. It was 3 am, but the coyote just wanted to play!

Scott woke to incessant scratching at his door, half-lidded eyes falling on his alarm clock. A groan fell from his lips when he saw how early it was. Though a year ago, the noise might have caused him to panic, he was now no longer surprised when Malia decided to visit late at night. He tried to ignore the scratching for a moment more, but when he heard teeth against his doorknob, he reluctantly dragged himself out of bed. “Malia, it’s three in the morning,” he complained the second he’d opened the door, yawning before rubbing a tired hand over his face.
