Quentin Beck studied Peter before grooming him. Beck knew he lost Tony, a mentor, so he stepped in as one. He supported Peter, said he did well with the water monster, comforted him when Fury snapped at him, then as a funny little joke he “sacrificed himself to save everyone”. If you hear Peter in that scene, he says “Mr. Beck?” the same way he said “Mr. Stark?” when Tony died. Then he “spends time with him” by having a drink and telling him he did well on the mission. He studied the kid and made sure to stab every healing wound.

Far From Home is a different level of horror cause when you strip away the whole superhero element, you are left with a grieving kid who lost his second father figure in life, desperately wants to get away from the superhero persona because everywhere he goes all he sees is the person he lost, hops on a plane with his friends to enjoy in Europe and then all of a sudden, Nick Fury is tranquilizing his friend to force a chat with him (idk in which moral universe all this has become normalised), he's meeting with a new man who has warm smile and kind eyes and laughs with him and treats him like a kid which absolutely reminds him of the person he lost and every interaction feels like pressing on a bruise over and over again but God he can't let go of this one last thing to fill the void in his life and then —

— he has trusted the wrong person. Realised that his trust was abused, he was coerced into an agreement he didn't understand, never would've happened and now every reason of destruction sits solely on the shoulders of a seventeen-years old who didn't heal from any of the trauma that happened to him which is its own rap sheet.

The movie was said to be a montage to Tony and Iron man and his role in Peter's life.

Hell no.

They took the chance to spit on everything Tony instilled in Peter and left that kid behind with crippling paranoia and destroyed what he thought that he could hold on forever.

But, with everything said, there's one thing I'm really, really glad that Marvel refused to do.

They didn't glorify Peter's suffering from no way home which I was so worried that they were going to do.

They showed the cost of being alone, the necessity to have a community, to have someone by your side and that being a lonewolf isn't going to work out in the long run.

Frank, Ned, MJ, Jean, the entirety of New York — finally showed why despite everything Peter gets out of his bed and wears his mask everyday.

Community.

The love and care that flows out of him — God I'm so, so glad — finds him back in some way.

Peter Parker, you weren't forever forgotten.

The love you gave didn't let it be like that.

Peter could've outgrown the need to have a parental figure, could've become self-sufficient and he has definitely done a damn better job at adulthood than people with more resources than he has but a part of him - the small niggling corner of his mind - will always have those little, little thoughts.

So yes, bnd has established Peter's adulthood, but I personally think you never outgrow certain parts of life, no matter how old you become.

A part of Peter died in Titan.

He can't tolerate to hear you're alright without his throat closing up and gripping the edge of his sweater tight, something to remind he's real and not turning into dust in Tony's his arms —

May had to replace anything that was in the shade of burnt orange after she found her nephew hyperventilating on the floor next to her coffee mug.

The ones who stayed had five years to grieve.

The ones who returned barely had five minutes to process the time blip, the loss of identity because how is a person marked dead in the inventory all of a sudden meant to return to their livelihood like nothing at all happened?

Peter wants to curl into a ball and tune out of everything. He didn't want to process the change of his apartment, Happy living a room away from him now, a little girl calling him Petey! and the spider-man memorabilia installed in the heart of Queens by Mr. Stark him.

I just want to be like you.

He hears the whimpers of the displaced people across the city, some barely making it through the day. He hears the gunshots, the cries for stolen goods, news about overflowing homes and global shortage of supplies to accommodate the other half of the world that has reappeared.

A wind through his opened window shifts the Spider-Man attire hanging alone in his wardrobe.

I was thinking: if Tony had survived using the Infinity Stones in Endgame, maybe he wouldn't have left the glasses to Peter (or at least he would have given him better advice). That way, Peter never would have trusted Mysterio, no one would have known his identity, Strange's spell wouldn't have been necessary, and everyone would still remember Peter. This whole mess is a butterfly effect that started back in 2019.

Yearly opinion on how Tony shouldn't have been the one to snap, here we go. This is like the biggest what if that keeps you up at night.

tony’s default is to love to the point of invention. He wants to make things work for people and find solutions and make himself worthwhile. He wants his loved ones lives to be easier, and he wants to be the one to make it because it’s the best he can do for them.

But i find the opposite to be the most compelling expression of love from tony. Not to love to the point of invention, but to trust to the point of decompression. He spends so much time trying to make himself useful, but he has such a hard time believing people when they tell him they don’t want it. When Tony can trust someone enough to believe them when they say they don’t need anything, it is so much more a sign of connection than when he works tirelessly for them.

To hear that he is wanted even when unproductive, and to trust that. To understand that he *could* give them more, and to not do it unless they ask. The vulnerability of being less than your best and trusting someone to stick around.

The chaotic Pepper/Tony wedding planning that we deserved

peter parker finds comfort in clutter, he can’t help but keep junk and torn clothes and broken furniture and books from several grades ago and broken laptops and tech he fished out of the dumpster. shit that people left on the street that probably has mold and bugs or wood rot or rat shit.

he used to go thrift shopping with may. she never saw a piece of furniture that she didn’t “see potential” in. (this extended to people. to places. she was always so generous. her bleeding heart. her moral mission.) anyways. so while he grew up poor, he’s never lived in a home that wasn’t cozy with things.

he’s never felt so much discomfort as when he moved into his shitty apartment with nothing that couldn’t fit into a cardboard box.

but whatever.

it’s got potential.

Tony stark, who never particularly cared for what furniture he has around, finds the thrifting from the salvation army and dumpster diving.. quite interesting.

He tries offering money to the Parkers, god knows he has quite a few lying around.

But of course, the moral mission.

May fiercely turns down every single offer he made — from replacing the worn down couch in her living room ("what's wrong with that? Ben always loved sitting in it."), to paying for some of her groceries because with Peter's increased appetite from the Bite, that kid can eat ("Tony, he's my nephew. I can afford — thank you for letting me know about this."), to fortify her apartment unit better ("I've Spider-Man under my roof, I don't think I need laser beams here, Tony.").

Once he notices Peter's red flush at each of these, it finally clicks to Tony that he's treating them like a charity case. And winces to himself.

He changes lanes afterwards.

He keeps Peter in the lab for long hours, usually sending him home after dinner with the leftovers because who's going to eat it here, underoos? and keeping track of May's schedule so that Peter's at the Tower when she's on night shift such that the kid never spends an alone night in the apartment.

Time. Effort. Someone to look after her precious reason that kept her moving after losing Ben.

None of it compares to money.

Tony has always known it. The Parkers reinforced it.

The day Tony passed away Peter had also died, only one stopped breathing.

The first few moments after the arrhythmic beat stopped echoing in his ears, Peter freezes.

No.

The charred hand with hot white lines running in it was holding him to the chest, warm and tight about fifteen minutes ago.

The unfocussed eyes staring somewhere far away now were peering deep into his, the overwhelming love and awe in it somehow sealing the deal that it indeed has been five years.

Nausea crawls through him.

He lost five years.

Two days ago, he was just letting himself accept the fact that maybe the universe would finally let him have someone like Mr. Stark — Tony — be his father-figure.

His heart beat is too loud in his ears.

Peter never said how much of the man he saw as a safe place. He has become someone he can dial in the middle of the night because the walls feel like it's closing down on him more, a person of trust — enough to become part of his and May's fortnight visit to the Thai restaurant.

He runs a hand down his face, the blood from his injuries seeping in his vision.

He never thanked him for looking at Peter more than Spider-Man.

He never said how grateful he was for the older man's guidance and presence in his life.

Peter knocks his forehead down to Tony's uninjured shoulder, shuddering with grief.

How naive was he to envision that he had more time.

Right Hand Man but it's a crack fic on Nick Fury and Phil Coulson trying to recruit Tony during the palladium poisoning period.

Phil: "Mr. Stark --

Tony: "Beep. Natalie please get them out."

Fury: "Stark, we need to talk."

Tony: "Do we? If there are more days in my schedule I'll try to fit you in."

And then there was Steve Rogers who barely had to be told anything and he's already in his star spangled costume ready to defend the country.

If Fury knew all it'd take for an alien invasion for his idea to fall in place, he might have sent the space signal a while ago and saved himself a headache.
