UNHCR refugee camps in South Sudan
Back from a week visiting UNHCR refugee camps in South Sudan with @carlottasami e @annamaesposito.
Ten million people in a country big twice as Italy, rich of water and oil. An heaven on earth where people dies for no reason.
UNHCR buses move Nuba Mountains refugees in the new Pamir camp in Northern Unity.
They come from South Kordofan, in Sudan.
The region was left out of the peace treaty that ended Sudan’s civil war and didn’t become part of South Sudan. Its people, against the decision and not willing to be submitted to Sudan’s sharia, is constantly repressed from President Al-Bashir.
This is just one of the many ethnic based conflicts that affect the world’s youngest country.
Here some pictures and links to our reports for RaiNews.
A woman arrives in Pamir Camp, Northern Unity.
Personal stories that would tear us apart. But this woman stands.
Women are systematically raped during military attacks on villages. Babies born from these episodes are countless in refugee camps.
Seeing a woman that loves and grows a son of war and violence is a moving thing. It is hope. It is Good that wins on Evil.
