It was something of a relief, Hangman being such an asshole at the Hard Deck. Seeing him again had felt like a gut punch that Bradley could never have prepared for, and it was significantly easier to ignore the ache in his chest when the cause of it was being such an asshole.
“Hangman,” Bradley greeted, affecting an ease he didn’t feel. His eyes flitted compulsively down to Jake’s left hand, “You look…” there was no ring, “good.”
It wasn’t a surprise, really. The Navy’s dress codes were strict, and while wedding bands were allowed, most opted to forego them while in uniform.
From the way that Hangman grinned at him, his look wasn’t subtle. Bradley couldn’t bring himself to care. He’d decided on a goal when he’d seen Jake’s C10 out front: grovel, plead, and pry his way back into Jake’s good graces. Some part of Bradley’s brain reminded him that what he really needed was space to get Jake out of his system, but the caveman-controlled part of it was much louder and cared much less about whatever pain it’d cause to be just friends with a married man.
