I am very drunk and listening to toto’s Africa
I’m thinking about watching Charlie and the chocolate factory, but the one from the 1970s where gene wilder is giving off heavy ‘fuck them kids’ energy and the lighting makes it look like the Great Depression
The newer Johnny Depp one sucked because he cared about their lives way too much and also had that haircut.
I don’t need a background story about a dentist dad to relate to willy wonka, I just need him to have crazy eyes okay, I am but a simple girl with simple needs
The trickster god energy Gene Wilder gives off vs the Kooky Entrepeneur energy Johnny Depp gives off.
Exactly!!!!!
Nothing in the Johnny Depp one can match the dangerous authoritarian energy of what Gene Wilder is doing with his cane in this scene alone
the manic control of how he makes them walk down the stairs.
“if you want to view paradise, simply look around and view it” he says after nearly savagely kneecapping an 11 year old girl for trying to view it
this movie is incredible
I’ve never seen this movie so I just experienced this for the first time and it terrifies me. The absolute boredom in his eyes combined with the mischief of his body language and the glittery, airy, detached way he sings the most pleasant, poetic words.
Nope.
this is a man trying to get rid of his horrifically unsafe factory the year before OSHA began
This is quite frankly the funniest comment on this post
Wilder’s Wonka is a man who is utterly, wholly, completely disgusted with the human species. He cannot stand people. At all. And yet he has one single remaining spark of hope in his heart that decent people might exist out there somewhere, hence his contest to try to find one to take over the business that represents all his idealistic dreams.
He’s a very intelligent man with a natural childlike innocence and creativity, and as such he has run up HARD against the ugliness of life many, many, many times. That’s why he built his own fantasy world in which to hide away from the real world. He hates this planet and everyone on it for their brutality, their ignorance, their greed, their animalistic behaviour...everything he sees in these nasty little children and their nasty little parents. At this point he is pretty sure that all the kids are little monsters and that his search was fruitless, hence the threats of aggression and dead expression in his eyes.
Fortunately for him, he’s about to discover Charlie’s real nature, and it’s not a coincidence that Charlie comes from a poor family while all the little monsters are rich.

I remember finding out that the person was going “is this allowed” to the girl bc the ‘guy’ in the photo is actually a realistic sex doll called a “sinthetic” that she was on a date with. They cost thousands of dollars.
That fucked me up
i did not need to know that
@spelviin why would u hide this in the tags lol
I found the listing for him if y’all want, he’s the Gabriel model from Sinthetics.
Unfortunately, I do love you now that you can dance
ok, but honestly, it is unfortunate. you know how we’re always passing around that ‘you are not immune to propaganda’ meme? this is the propaganda it’s talking about.
it’s cute dancing robots! they have a cute robot dog! it’s cute! it’s friendly!
well, the robot dog friend? cute little jumpy guy, does some careful ballet-esque steps, often between the humanoid robots? so far, both the boston police and the nypd (heads up: autoplaying video, with sound) have ‘deployed’ the cute dog friend. both departments say that the robots are being used as ‘observation devices’, sent into buildings with lights and a camera that sends a videofeed back to the cops.
part of why i think this video (and others like it) is so interesting is because boston dynamics has defended police use of the robots, saying that there’s a clause that the robots can’t be used in a way that would ‘physically harm or intimidate people’. i don’t know about you, but if i were at, say, a protest, or honestly literally anywhere, and a robot dog started running towards me, i’d be pretty fucking intimidated. i’d assume that it was going to hurt me. if one of the humanoid robots were running towards me, i’d assume it was straight-up about to kill me.
but these videos do a lot of work to erode that assumption. how can anyone claim that they’re intimidated by, say, a line of robot dogs at a protest? the robot dogs do funny dances online! the video above has been live for about two months, and it has thirty million views. people love them! they can dance!
so when they start being used as mobile security cameras, or when they start being used to maintain a perimeter or for crowd control or whatever, it’s not really a violation of the contract. the robots are friendly! my bet is that when they start setting them out to do security or whatever—and i don’t doubt that they’ll be used for security, etc—they might even do funny little dances and interact with people who stop to gawk at them. anything to normalize increasingly autonomous roboticized policing. get one of the humanoid ones out in the field, and it’s a remarkably short step to autonomous, mobile cctv—that can also detain you if it doesn’t like what you’re doing, or if there was a crime and you’re in the area, or if your face looks like someone from a database, or—
and all that assumes, of course, that the no-harm clause stays there forever, and that police departments, so famous for their love of doing things by the book, adhere to it. but just for fun, watch that video again, and imagine even one of those robots weaponized, outfitted with even ‘nonlethal’ crowd control.
i’m not arguing that the robots are inherently bad, or that there’s no reasonable use for them, even by cops. but the time to get critical of them is now, not in five or ten years when their use has been largely normalized. this is cute propaganda, but it’s still propaganda, and we should acknowledge it for what it is.
anyway this is how to disable the Spot robo-dog that the NYPD just purchased
also? the naming of “Spot the police dog” goes deliberately hand-in-hand with how the language of anti-protest policing deweaponises it from the actual harm caused. labels like “non-lethal” and “less lethal” guns, which fire “foam rounds”, “bean-bag rounds” and “rubber bullets” have taken out eyes and cracked open skulls, are deliberately named to make them sound more harmless than they are.
foam bullets are solid metal and foam-tipped, bean-bag rounds are sacks of cloth filled with lead pellets and rubber bullets are metal bullets that have rubber-coating - it’s a deliberate trick of language to make writing and reporting about it diminish the violence they cause the victims.
“police fired bean bag rounds and foam bullets at protestors” sounds like the cops are using kindergarden weapons and not shooting to kill.
“police deployed spot the robot dog for crowd-control measures” (which is how it will inevitably be written) makes it sound like it’s some cutesy doctor who sidekick out there yelping at protestors, rather than a weaponised, mobile, agile hunk of metal that is designed to break your fucking arm.

Jesus fucking Christ, look at these young, otherwise healthy people who had severe heart complications from COVID. But people still don’t give a shit, people are still going to parties and holidays because they think nothing bad will happen to them because they’re young.
God, please stay inside if you can until the vaccine is available to you.
Americans don’t care. They want to stunt, party, be seen, and act like this shit hits only poor people or old people. Everyone can catch hands with this thing….but. again, Americans don’t care.
I’m sorry if this comes off as combative, but: if your government gave you next to no financial relief, did not mandate masks, allowed bars and retail businesses to stay open, re-opened university campuses, and then told you “you MUST go to work and school and interact with hundreds of strangers, but you’re a terrible person if you go visit grandma or get together for drinks with friends after your shift or have Christmas dinner”, what exactly would YOU do?
You can say “if people really cared about each other, they would stay home no matter what the government does” all you like, but that doesn’t change the fact that this simply isn’t how behaviour modification at a population-wide scale works. Guilt and punishment does not change behaviour, providing resources and boundaries that encourage and reward the correct behaviour does.
Why should people take the pandemic seriously when every single signal being sent from the places of power that guide their lives says that this just isn’t worth giving a shit about? When you aren’t given the chance to make better choices, because you can’t financially afford to?
Blaming individual people for being “stupid” and “careless” lets the American federal and state governments (as well as other powerful institutions) off the hook for their egregious, cruel, careless policy approaches to this situation, which have left people to fend for themselves and try to make decisions under the most duress they’ve ever experienced in their lives.
The first girl caught COVID while living in a multi-roommate apartment at university (her roommates later also tested positive, which is unsurprising if you’re ever seen student housing) — then she self-quarantined, tried to recover, and ONLY travelled home to visit her family after she had started testing negative again (her family did not get sick). What could she have done better? Magically been able to afford a single apartment?
The young man who died, Jaquan Anderson, his mother was a healthcare worker, but he was living with other relatives to make sure he wouldn’t be in contact with her while attending school, and then he still he got sick. What could he have done better, exactly? Does it sound like he didn’t care?
Most of the articles on the other student athletes mention that members of their teams also tested positive — does that sound like it’s on them individually, or like it could be a sign of a serious problem in the prevention protocols being used for university sports? What would have been the “responsible” choice for them? To refuse to play the sport that they probably rely on to cover their tuition via scholarships? What better choices could they have made, within the situations these institutions set up for them?
These people ARE trying. Most Americans ARE trying. They ARE doing the best they can in their situations, with limited power and a lot of stress.
We need to stop asking why people won’t just “smarten up” and be responsible, and start asking why the government is abdicating its responsibility for public health in this crisis onto the shoulders of random young people.
we may not have been able to save brandon. but the fight is far from over.
this is dustin john higgs.
in 1996, he was convicted of kidnapping and murdering three women and was sentenced to death.
this conviction is entirely false. he didn’t murder anybody.
he has been found not guilty of the crime. at this point, the only reason he remains in jail is because he was at the scene of the crime. the court also claims that he bullied willis hayes, the man who actually did murder the three women, into killing them. however, willis hayes has come forward and has admitted that dustin DID NOT commit the crime, and he’s also even confessed that dustin never bullied him into murdering the trio of women. but the court won’t accept it.
DUSTIN JOHN HIGGS IS SCHEDULED TO BE EXECUTED ON JANUARY 15, 2021. HE IS GOING TO BE EXECUTED FOR A CRIME HE DID NOT COMMIT AT ALL. WE CAN’T LET THIS HAPPEN AGAIN.
To get Dustin John Higgs off death row

so i recently found out that the change.org petitions won’t really make a difference because they aren’t legally binding. however, i found another petition that, if it gets enough signatures, will make it to the u.s. department of justice and by law, government officials have to legally overlook it.
Dustin Higgs was convicted and sentenced to the federal death penalty as an accomplice to the 1996 murders of Tanji Jackson, Tamika Black a
THIS PETITION CAN ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING. CONTINUE TO SIGN THE CHANGE.ORG PETITION, BUT ALSO SIGN THIS ONE AS WELL
^ thats the original image, in case you want to see exactly how fucking vile these bastards are.
(those are signs they confiscated from homeless people they arrested for “panhandling” during the holiday season)
Holy fuck the original is worse
What’s worse than evil?
This is true and this is vile.
Now what would happen if a homeless quilt was made by someone who actually cared about homeless people?
Meet former ad designer Willie Baronet.
Baronet is an artist who talks to homeless people and buys their signs from them for $20 a pop, if they’re willing to sell. He uses the signs in art exhibits to educate the privileged and point them to ways they can help, and to humanize homeless people and tell them they matter.
One sign at a time, Baronet makes a statement to help people with $20 in their hand and a voice that rings across the nation saying “I’m here.” (source)
So not only did they take the small, hand-made signs away from homeless people but instead of just tossing them, they kept them. Not only did they keep them as some kind of homeless trophy, they actually went through the time, energy, and effort (funded by tax dollars) to tape them together, pose for a picture, and post it during the holiday season.
This is why people say that there are no good cops. Because there aren’t.
you can’t support autistic people and support the police. No amount of paint jobs or sensitivity training can stop police from killing with impunity
And fuck the jigsaw puzzle imagery advanced by the eugenicists at Autism Speaks. We’re not a “puzzle” to be “solved“
Half of all people killed by cops have a disability, because cops aren’t trained to recognize or deal with people with disabilities and very few places have people who are trained for those situations easily accessible during emergencies. So the cops come in and do what they’re paid to do - murder anyone who’s inconvenient to the state
What Native people say about the use of sage: you can use sage, but you cannot smudge as nothing you are doing (waving sage around) is actually smudging. Smudging is a ceremony and you are, we promise, not smudging. Please buy sage from either us, or someone who sources the sage from us. White sage may not be considered endangered by the US government but corperate sourcing is making it difficult for us to source sage for our own religious purposes. Let alone to sell it.
What white people hear: never use sage ever, don’t ever buy it, don’t own it, don’t even look at it.
Look, y’all. There’s a couple of facets to my talk today.
1) Yes! You can buy sage! You really, truly can! Buy it from either native sellers (go to a powwow! Eat our food, buy our stuff, watch some dancing!) Or buy it from a seller who sources the sage from native people. Pick one. And no, buying it from 5 Below doesn’t count.
2) you CANNOT smudge. This isn’t just you “shouldn’t”— this is a YOU ARE INCAPABLE OF SMUDGING. Waving a sage stick around your doorways IS NOT SMUDGING. It is smoke clensing. Smudging, depending on the tradition and tribe, could easily have dancing and drums involved. You, as a white person, do not have the cultural BACKGROUND to even know how it works. At all. Period.
3) please, for FUCKS SAKE, stop making posts here on tumblr where you tell other white people about cultural appropriation and what they can and cannot do. Please stop, your license has been revoked because none of you bother to get the facts right. We native people are FULLY CAPABLE OF DOING IT OURSELVES. Consider instead: a) reblogging our posts where we talk about it! We’re here! We have made posts!! b) Making a post that states what we said and then LINKS BACK TO US. Screenshot with a link if you must. Stop centering your own voices in these conversations. You are already centered in everything, stop centering yourselves in a native space.
I’m tired of this nonsense, y’all.
Thanks for coming to my TedTalk ™

White folks ain’t going to reblog this. They want their version of MK Jr. that only said “I have a dream”.
Guilt tripping white people into reblogging stuff isn’t going to make you have more allies, just saying.
It’s not about guilt tripping.
It’s about white people, even well-intentioned white allies, being too comfortable in their privilege and not learn more about the complex beliefs of civil right leader MLK Jr other than his “I have a dream” speech. MLK Jr. talked extensively about American Imperialism, Capitalism, and White Fragility/Complicity throughout his career and activism, which most Liberal white allies won’t share because they’re too comfortable with the white lies they were taught in schools.
Reblog to make a white gay big mad
Reblog to make QPOC feel more welcome in their own community
reblog to normalize explicit support and solidarity for qpoc in the lgbt community
I really like the idea of including lgbtqia+ poc in the flag, but I do have a small gripe with the flag.
Now, I’m no authority on this matter so feel free to put me in check if you feel like I’m speaking out of turn, but the black and brown bars always felt tacked on to me. It doesn’t feel inclusive to me so much as it feels like an afterthought, like: “lgbtq+… oh and also poc.” I felt like something more along these lines (see below) could celebrate the poc throughout the community– but again, that’s not really my decision to make. Either way, I support the change, and I think the inclusion is awesome.
Joan you wonderful genius
i’m on board with this one cause it actually looks good

This reminds me of a party I went to last year. I was standing with some friends, chatting, and someone said something that indirectly implied that sexism exists. Some trivial recounting of the basic facts of daily life for most women. Something so mild, so uncontroversial, so mundane that I don’t even remember what it was.
Suddenly, this man standing on the outskirts of our conversational circle piped up with “actually, I think men are more discriminated against than women these days.”
All conversation died.
I turned to look at him and he had this smug, insufferable grin on his face, relishing this moment, expecting us to waste our time and energy refuting this ridiculous thing he had just said.
The Devil’s Advocate was among us.
And, in my mind, I saw the next 15+ minutes playing out. The parade of facts and statistics in a vain attempt to defend ourselves, our gender, and to prove that misogyny is real. The glib, snide denials from some shithead who is getting off on our pain and frustration. The Gish Gallop of bullshit that would take a whole evening to properly dismantle. It was depressing and overwhelming. I hated it. I had to kill it before it began.
So I looked him dead in the eye and I said “OK,“ shrugged, and just walked away.
Nothing I have ever said to another human being has ever been so crushing. As I walked away, I watched the smug grin vanish and confusion and anxiety set in. The rest of the group turned their backs to him and carried on as if he had never spoken - as if he was invisible. He was still staring at me when I walked over to another friend and told her what he had said. I pointed him out for her and made direct eye contact with him while we both laughed.
tl;dr: Don’t feed the troll. Let it perish, cold and hungry, in the wasteland of your indifference. It is weak and you are strong. Live your best life.
This is the most hilarious thing and the best advice I’ve ever read on this damned hellsite.
As someone I respect very much has written on more than one occasion, you don’t have to engage in every argument you are invited to.
