POV: TWO SISTERS FROM THE SOUTH SIDE.
The first promise they ever made was in a dark alley that smelled like cheap alcohol and cigarette smoke.
It was the night that their father beat their mother so bad that he left her bleeding on the cold floor and then he went to look after his daughters, but they ran away from him.
Andrea was the older one by three minutes, But Daniela was always the stronger one.
“We stick together.” Andrea said, her voice shaking, still scared from what happened.
Daniela nodded, calm in a way that didn’t make sense for a kid. “Always.” She held out her pinky finger and made a promise with her twin sister. A promise they were meant to keep forever.
Growing up on the south side meant learning fast. Daniela learned how to survive, Andrea learned how to escape.
By fourteen, Andrea already knew how to pick a pocket
By fifteen, she knew witch corners paid best and which cops could be brides
and by sixteen she learned how to shoot a gun.
Daniela hated it. She didn’t like how her sister was becoming. She wanted a better life for both of them. Daniela didn’t want them to grew up and be like their father or be a slave like their mother.
“This isn’t who you are..” Daniela said one night, blocking the door as Andrea tried to leave.
She laughed dryly, and looked at her sister worried face “This is exactly who i am. I’m just honest about it.”
Daniela didn’t argue after that, she just started to pull away from her sister once she saw that it was a lost case.
She stayed in school and she focused on studying.
Then one night, a tragedy happened, their father was drunk, very drunk. And when he was drunk he was letting his anger out on his wife, he was beating her, insulting her and much worse
Sabrina couldn’t take it anymore, she thought of he kids and tears felled from her eyes, but she couldn’t live like this anymore, not with that monster present in their life’s.
So as Martin was insulting her and drinking from the bottle of wine, she picked up a knife and stabbed Martin in the chest, but before he could fell or die, he grabbed into her and pushed both of them out of the open window.
Screams could be heard from inside the house, where their two daughters witness both the crimes.
And let’s just say that this changed both of their lives.
Years later
Andrea turned to drugs, dealers, gun and other things
While Daniela choose the golden path.
She wore a badge that felt heavier than it should, Andrea carried a gun that felt lighter than it should.
They haven’t spoken in months.
Not since Daniela tried to arrest one of Andrea’s guys.
Not since Andrea looked at her like she was a stranger, an outcast.
The night it all broke, was another tragedy for the lahu family, one that was going to make history in Europe.
It was just another raid, another name on a list.
A door kicked open, and then somebody yelled
“Police! Don’t move!” Daniela was the first one in, and then she saw her..
Andrea.
Standing in the middle of the room, gun already raised, blood on her hands.
For a second everything went quiet.
No sirens
No shouting
Just the two of them. Two sisters who fate took them on diferent sides.
“You picked a side.” Daniela said, her voice barely steady, she couldn’t believe what her sister was doing.
Andrea titled her head. “So did you.” She looked at her uniform in disgust, the gun staying steady in her hands.
Daniela stepped forward, eyes full of tears. “It doesn’t have to end like this, Andrea.”
Andrea’s grip tightened “It already did a long time ago, Dani.”
Then a shout rang out, a sudden movement was made, a shout could be heard from the other police officers in the room.
But for the twins… Neither of them knew who pulled the trigger first.
