Dean drunkenly bragging about being best best best friends with Cas to someone at a bar and he's like "here look I'll call him, I'll talk to him" and proceeds to call him with no answer 50 times in a row and the other person keeps trying to gently be like "maybe he's busy?" "are you sure you're actually friends? Does he know that you're friends?" "Maybe you should stop trying" And Dean is like "no no no we are we are best friends he's gonna pick up" like this is a totally normal thing that happens between all friends
That same person is in the bar again next week and Cas is there and when he introduces himself they're like "WAIT do you have a friend named Dean. Is he. This is a weird question but is he your best friend??" And Cas does his little shy smile and says "yes."
Later on his phone starts ringing and he looks at it, then just puts it on the table where it vibrates with persistent calls for over 20 minutes.
"Don't you want to get that?"
"It's just Dean"
"Couldn't you just tell him you don't want him to call you so often??"
"I like when he calls"
"Then why not answer???"
"I don't have anything to say to him right now"
"Don't you think he might have something to say to YOU?"
Even more laterer, at the end of the night, bar closing, having seen Cas slug back an entire vodka bottle, "Hey you shouldn't drive, do you want me to give you a ride?"
"Oh, no thank you. Dean will drive me."
Cas pulls out his phone and they're like there's no way. It's 2am and Cas just ghosted him for 45 minutes. There's no-
"Dean," he'd answered on the first ring, "I'm 'too drunk to drive' can you come get me?"
Dean rolls up in his car within 15 minutes.
Eventually this person gets to be regular friends with Dean and Cas and they get their numbers. They never try calling Cas because they KNOW. But one time they're telling their friend group about it and they're like you HAVE to try. So they call, and halfway through them insisting to their friends that Cas is not going to pick up they're interrupted by the call being answered.
It's Dean. He says, very cheerfully, "hey, this is Cas’s phone, who's calling?" like he's his secretary. Cas can be heard in the background talking about 'research' and 'swords'.
They say it's them. Muffled, they hear Dean relay this to Cas, and Cas respond 'I don't want to talk to them." They hang up in embarrassment before Dean can pass this on.
Cas declines all of Dean's calls because he learned what "playing hard to get" is and has taken it too far.
He declines all of Sam's because Sam isn't Dean and he genuinely does not gaf

Look, we all know this is true. But there isn't a SOURCE for this, and the graph itself is basically illegible beyond "ooh colors". If we want to be good stewards of our informational resources, we need to cite our sources.
From a reverse image search, I found the website Show Your Stripes, run by the University of Reading in the UK, which is likely where the above graph originated. It provides temperature data for various regions of the world from approximately 1900-2025. For example, here are graphs for Canada, India, and Papua New Guinea:
All clearly show a sharp rise in temperature beginning around approximately the 1980s, which corresponds with the graph in OP's post. But now we know where this data came from, and we can verify its validity accordingly.

Ferdinand Cheval tripped over a stone and was inspired by its shape, eventually stating, "It represents a sculpture so strange that it is impossible for man to imitate, it represents any kind of animal, any kind of caricature. one of the biggest things I can advocate for (in academia, but also just in life) is to build credibility with yourself. It’s easy to fall into the habit of thinking of yourself as someone who does things last minute or who struggles to start tasks. people will tell you that you just need to build different habits, but I know for me at least the idea of ‘habit’ is sort of abstract and dehumanizing. Credibility is more like ‘I’ve done this before, so I know I can do it, and more importantly I trust myself to do it’. you set an assignment goal for the day and you meet it, and then you feel stronger setting one the next day. You establish a relationship with yourself that’s built on confidence and trust. That in turn starts to erode the barrier of insecurity and perfectionism and makes it easier to start and finish tasks. reframing the narrative as a process of building credibility makes it easier to celebrate each step and recognize how strong your relationship with yourself can become

this is one of my favorite scenes from the amsterdam episode. people who haven't seen the show; or only have a cursory understanding of it — tend to think that ted lasso is about relentless optimism & positivity. but it's about so much more than that — it's about looking life in the face; seeing its scars and unsolved hurts firsthand — and choosing to believe in beauty anyway.
it's about knowing just how ugly the world can be; and still deciding to look at it with softness and genuine interest. ted lasso never shies away from the heartbreak of human existence — the losses both tiny and large; the loves that walk away — the injustices that you can do nothing to prevent. but through it all; the show remains committed to an unfeigned appreciation of existence. of what it means to be alive — the small acts of tenderness that keep you on earth: biscuits made by someone at your desk every morning; face-timing with your son knowing that his love for you is unconditional — a team who steps up to save your restaurant at a moment's notice. it's about joy & humor as an act of resistance — a refusal to give up on the shimmering potential that might still be left in your life; no matter who or where or what you are.
the world will break you — there is no doubt about it. but if you can take those shards; those pieces of yourself punctured with pain — and still be able to see light pouring through those wounds: then you have the true spirit of vincent. the true spirit of an artist. it's not mentioned in the show; but vincent was able to survive as long as he did because he was consistently sustained by the love and support of his younger brother, theo; who believed in him and his paintings wholeheartedly — just as all the characters in ted lasso are able to process their pain and experiences with the love and companionship of the people around them —with their steadfast faith in each other's ability to do better. it might not be explicitly said; but i think the implication is clear — hearing van gogh's story; ted is inspired to think of "total football" — a method of play that is expansive and wholly dependent on trust in each other and being responsive to each other's needs. it demonstrates how we are nowhere and no one without our communities; our little ecosystems — how we owe care and curiosity to the people in our lives and what they're going through.
as a creator & a certain kind of artist with her own demons to make sense of; this scene was empowering and also so full of warmth. your hands will be wounded; it is inevitable — but if you can still lift up your cut skin and offer it to the world: if you can trust that it will be met and touched by the quiet lovelinesses that still linger in life: (a hard-won victory; the girl in your neighborhood who kicks a ball around with you, the owner of your local pub that recites a poem to you when she sees that you're in pain) — then you have done the impossible work of keeping hope alive. then you have shown indomitable bravery.
if you choose to keep faith with beauty; beauty will keep faith with you — it will never abandon you. that's what ted has always done — kept seeing the beauty in life. and even if he sometimes fails; even if it all gets too much for him —the next day he still tries again. and he never stops trying. he never becomes disillusioned.

its wild the degree to which people talk about reading and eating in similar terms - the concept of a "reading diet", of "media consumption", the idea of certain stories as "empty calories" or "fast food" and some as "eating your vegetables", the moralization of both as personal failings, the framing of health with the specter of degeneration if not complied with... the idea that there are things that are sensorily pleasant and that you find yourself craving, and there are things that sustain you, and those are not the same things. the framing of literacy as reading the correct way and taking away the correct meaning from a text. according to nutritional guidelines

india is not a democracy anymore.
everyone needs to hear about the situation in india right now. the youth of this nation are going through hell and back to protect the foundations that our country was built on in the first place, while the adults who are supposed to actually be in charge try to silence our voices.
NEET, which is an exam taken by millions of students per year and is the ONLY gateway for medical admissions across the country, had its papers leaked. so many took their lives because this exam meant everything for their future. and NTA, the agency who conducts this exam, was not held accountable.
there was national backlash. cockroach janta party (initially a satirical political party formed by abhijeet dipke in retaliation to the remarks of the chief justice of india calling the youth "cockroaches" and "parasites of society") started protests at jantar mantar, demanding the resignation of the union education minister, dharmendra pradhan. the movement also asked for ten million inr (~100,000 usd) in compensation for the families of students who died by suicide and wanted NTA be held accountable.
sonam wangchuk, a climate activist and education reformer, also went on a hunger strike at jantar mantar to protest against this corruption in india's higher education system. his fast began on june 28, demanding the resignation of the union education minister. his fast lasted for 20 days until delhi police FORCIBLY removed him and admitted him to safdarjung hospital on july 18.
because of this, cockroach janta party announced "chalo sansad," a march to the parliament beginning on june 20th, 9:00 am ist. but the police seems to be responding with water cannons, mobile jammers, and baton charge. all of this, because of a peaceful protest led by people no older than 30.
and yet there has been absolutely no indian media coverage about a movement that spans the entirety of this nation. so, please, if you see this, keep talking about us. we will not let those old bastards stoop any lower than they've already had. we will not let them ruin our country any further. we will not be silenced
Please look it up. Students have been beaten bloody. They’re using electrified batons. They’re using batons with nails hammered in. They’re dragging people off and locking them up for no reason. People are being beaten, assaulted, and even molested by the police.
The government is doing everything it can except for actually having an honest dialogue with the protestors.
It’s important to note that despite all the police brutality, despite how the government has had extra forces airlifted to Delhi to help quash the protest, this has deterred no one.
Not only is the protest in Delhi going strong, the government closed down every metro station in Central Delhi in an effort to stop them and it still hasn’t.
There’s protests in most major cities in India in solidarity. Palakkad, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kochi, and probably more besides. There has been a protest in the UK as well in solidarity.
People who aren’t at the protest are donating so much food that the organisers have had to ask them to stop doing so because there’s more than enough. In lieu of that people are donating money for medicine, lawyers, cleanup, and umbrellas.
Most crucially, hopes aren’t broken. Spirits aren’t broken. People with bruises and broken bones are still showing up. People are showing up cosplaying as freedom fighters and super heroes and a dinosaur. People are doxxing goons who show up trying to incite violence. People are making reels. People in Mumbai literally opened a moving police detainment van to allow arrested students to escape.
*all links lead to Instagram posts or reels showing the same. Almost every major Indian news network has been bought and either ignores the protests or depicts them unfairly. All honest news comes from people on the ground and smaller independent news outlets.

getting older can be so amazing? you get more familiar with yourself. learn tips & tricks for troubleshooting your own brain. trial & error helps you build routines that minimize discomfort, maximize reward. your preferences/interests don't get set in stone, but you do find out which ones are going to stay with you in the long-term, and which ones are fun but transient joys to appreciate in the moment.
you learn that the world is so much more complex than you were taught, and that that's okay, and that there's an endless supply of things you can learn or watch or experience or think about if you want to. if you're lucky, you loosen up, stop putting so much pressure on yourself. if you're lucky, you learn to recognize that negative inner voice, and whack it with a baseball bat until it hushes up. if you're lucky, you learn to treat yourself gently, not because you are fragile but because you are worthy of gentleness. (i hope you are lucky.)
and some things will change. some things will get better. some things will get good. and maybe you start to recover from the dehumanizing stress of childhood/education. maybe you learn the power of your own autonomy. maybe you learn how to walk away from bad situations (which is a superpower even if you don't realize it yet). and you get to choose your own clothes. and your own food. and which relationships to pursue! and what you do with your free time. and with your life (but don't worry you get to choose that gradually). and that's crazy! and sometimes scary. and extraordinarily, indescribably precious.
