Look I understand that people are allowed to have opinions but every time I see a post about new girl I see fifty people hating it with no explanation. I really don’t think there’s a case for it at all and if you think there is maybe you need to check your understanding of 2004 moderate republican politics and also check your bias. i think (don’t remember exactly) that while there’s some stuff with thirteen where he’s maybe a little insecure, I think that that’s more insecurity in the relationship than it is actual vitriolic homophobia, and I don’t think it’s something that comes up again if i remember correctly. other than that I really don’t think there’s anything, if we’re going purely based on 2004 poor taste jokes about queerness then every single character is mildly homophobic. if I’ve just forgotten something then hit me with it, but I don’t think that there’s significant substantial evidence pointing towards it

Hodgins had a traumatic childhood I am so sure of it I just can't prove it. In the ghost in the machine he immediately jumps to the kid's parents being involved in his murder. Then when they find out his injuries were sports related Hodgins says "better than being beaten by a drunk foster father," why does he say foster father specifically? Nothing suggested the boy was in the foster system? And we never see or learn about his parents, and we know Hodgins is the last heir to the cantilever group, adding up to suggest he's an orphan. He's always angry, before he met Angela and Zac he seemed to have no friends, he jumps to assumptions about abusive parents, he is not only kind to victims of violence but very very angry at the perpetrators of it. The worst part about it all is that it's never mentioned. Sweets' traumatic childhood is a topic in the show, it's mentioned or alluded to more than once, but we don't really know anything about Hodgins' past except that it was bad, maybe too bad to talk about. We know about the rest of the main characters' parents and childhoods but Hodgins it's just never mentioned.

Being nonviolent is an important part of their character, and while it's interesting to ponder what could drive them to feel vindication or relief through violence, them doing so can't truly be construed as a positive development
